I understand what your saying. For man without God, the truth is hard to accept 1 Corinthians 2:14. Your not the first nor will you be the last to think you know better then God. Our sinful and selfish nature wants things our way. God's ways are different then mans (Isaiah 55:9) and without Him you cannot understand them. Of course you want no part of Christian love. Your still serving your master the devil at this point. He will not allow you to love as a Christian. But you have come to a place where people understand this. We are well aware of the hold he has on you. If you read the bible as you stated, then you should know that Christ died for the sinner. He didn't die for the saved for there were none Romans 3:23. This includes you and me. And regardless of weather you want to be a part of Christian love or not, you are. You came into this forum and introduced yourself to many who hold to the word of God, have tasted His love and are guided by the Holy Spirit. We love you despite your opinion of us. I for one am truly concerned for your salvation. There is more proof for you that God exist. If the Holy Spirit was not in me then why would I care one way or the other about you when all I know is your screen name and what you have posted. Yet I pray for you that God will open your eyes so that you too will know Him as I have come to know Him. |

Try it again and don't look for someone else to interpret it for you. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read the words of God. No need to respond to the other post I mentioned. Just read them. Forget about the words of men, and pay close attention to the words of God that were shared with you. They were shared with you out of love in hopes that you will see the truth therein. |

Your mistaken on several of your statements. You have been presented with the truth in God's word. Keep seeking and you will find Him. I suggest you read the scriptures again. As you do, ask yourself who resurrected Jesus? Also, look again at Solomon's conclusion in Chapter 12. You need to be saved from an eternity in hell separated from God. Suggest you continue to read Romans 10:9 until you understand it and accept it. Solomon should not be your concern. Your own salvation and the salvation of others should be. Thank you for allowing me to share God's word with you. I have nothing on my own to offer you that will convince you. Therefore, I give to you something neither you or me can change or defeat. The very word of God! The proof is in your comments / statements to everyone that shared God's truth with you to answer your questions. It cannot be disputed so you have to come up with a different question each time. I guess to a nonbeliever this may seem to prove their point. Compared to the word of God, if falls short. It's sad that you can't see that. Since you have not done so well accepting the truth given to you on this forum. Challenge yourself and instead of spending your time trying to prove God exist, prove that He doesn't. May God have mercy on you! I pray for you and I pray that if it's the Fathers will, you will be saved. And just so you know, Christ died on the cross for you, he rose again and now sits at the right hand of the Father. He has paid the price so you don't have to. The very God you deny, has provided the perfect sacrifice that you may live for an eternity with Him instead of an eternity separated from Him. |

Agnostic, your looking for proof here it is. The first importance delivered to us by an eye witness who once not only doubted as you do but also persecuted the church. I point this out so one, you know what is of first importance and two so that you can see there is hope for you and for all nonbelievers. 1 Corinthians 15:3-10 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Also, you may want to read the book of Ecclesiastes. This is a good example of someone that had it all and spent his time searching for meaning. His discoveries along the way and in the end should help clear things up for you. You have attempted to make a point about what an Agnostic is. The truth is, it does not matter which one you are, agnostic or atheist. A nonbeliever is a nonbeliever. It doesn't even matter how good or moral a nonbeliever might be. Many tend to think atheist and agnostics are bad people. Some are and some are not. At least from man's point of view. The point is neither will be saved without accepting Christ. In case your interested in how to receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour, read Romans 10:9. I pray you do this! PS. There is no safety in the middle. Revelation 3:16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. And yes, I believe in God and I believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that the only way to be saved is through Him. I believe this because of what we are taught through God's word and it has been confirmed to me through the complete change in me that has taken place after accepting Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I believe this because of the void inside everyone of us without Christ was filled and made complete in me the day I accepted Christ. |

768 | Do you believe in God? If so, then why? | Ps 19:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 158168
Well said brother Mark! Man has no ability to convince man of anything he chooses not to believe. There is no point in even trying to give an answer to something based on mankind's understanding of things. Our only hope of helping others find the truth is by presenting the truth to them. If it's God's will that they receive the truth then His will, will be done. Not our truth but the Fathers truth! As our Beloved and Holy Saviour said it in John 17:17 as he prayed to His and our Heavenly Father, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth". No man nor even satan can defeat the truth. They can ignore it but they cannot change it! They can twist it but they cannot change it! The truth is what it is and regardless of acceptance, it remains the truth. Therefore we should always stand on the truth (God's word), present it to the none believer and remember the power of His word Hebrews 4:12. We should always remember it needs no help from us but will accomplish exactly what He pleases Isaiah 55:11 and that faith will come through His word Romans 10:17. I love to see post like yours that simply put the word of God out there and therefore presents the truth to all! And in that we know it will go out and do what pleases the Father. Father, thank You for Your truth and the power there in and thank you for the brothers and sisters who stand on your truth and share it with others. Amen! |

770 | Why did this man need a second touch ? | Mark 8:25 | humbledbyhisgrace | 158142
Brother Mark, we are talking about Jesus here. You can rest assured that there was a reason and there is meaning behind the act of touching this man twice. But, I believe you are assuming too much here. Your assumption has no biblical backing. In and of itself is in error simply based on the fact your reasoning would mean Christ was in error and didn't do the job right in the first place. You stand on your own common since as if your claim to speaking in tongues somehow adds validity to your perceived common since. Where is your scripture to back this up? |

Hey Brad, I understand and I truly understand the heart felt passion many have when it comes to our God and His word. In regards to the regulars. I thank God for them! I've learned much from many on this forum. I read this forum daily and usually several times a day. This forum is a great place for learning there is no doubt about it and there are some good teachers here. I agree the heart of most of the regulars are in the right place most of the time. I pray my post did not come across as if they were not. Something I would like everyone to consider. When someone makes a post instead of taking the defensive approach simply give them the truth in God's word. No one, including the devil can defeat the truth. Regardless of what they say, the truth will always stand out and there is no need for pride or defensive language or sarcasm to strengthen it. If someone feels the need to defend God's word then it should be done as God has instructed 1 Pet. 3:15. The word of God will stand on it's own every time. When I think about God's word and it's power I always think about Hebrews 4:12 and Isaiah 55:11. Is that not some awesome scripture! What more could we possibly do to it to improve on that? Also Brad, I don't exclude myself from any of this. Not just on the forum but in my daily life as well. I'm just as guilty. You know it's funny how easy it is to recognize something when you are so familiar with it, good or bad. |

Oh I understood the post with no problem. And the key is called discernment. I agree, there should be no games played here. Doc had already pointed out to the poster, this is a bible study forum. However, they simply ask the question are any biblical references or meanings behind the number. I fail to see any reason to assume the poster was playing games. If I missed something then please correct me. Could have simply been they were seeking the truth and instead found sarcasm. What kind of message does that send? Should we not instead try and draw them in, to discuss the truth with them? It's as if this has become too widely accepted on this forum. Why I don't know when there are so many of you that participate on this forum with so much knowledge of the scriptures that can be shared with others. I guess knowledge of scripture and wisdom don't always go hand in hand. I don't know if you have spent much time looking around the internet, but this is one of the best if not the best bible forums out there. Lot's of knowledge on this forum! But it's as if something is creeping into this place. We can either resist it are allow it to take over. I'm sorry brother, I don't want to be at odds with you or anyone else on this forum. The problem is too much of this goes on and I wonder how many realize the number of people that are reading along and never post. I also can't help but wonder how many are run off after reading some of the post. I know it's not my forum and I don't dictate the rules. I'm just concerned about some of the things I see. When you can't find God in it, then you have to wonder what it's doing here??? |

776 | Did Adam / Eve know the meaning of evil | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 157505
Hello wonbyone, Genesis 2:16-17 NASU 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." They knew they were not supposed to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil because God had commanded them not to do so. Take a look at Genesis 3:22 (NASU) Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever" I believe this verse shows that they did not know the meaning of evil until after they had been disobedient to God's command. |

777 | Why did God block access to the tree of | Gen 3:24 | humbledbyhisgrace | 157164
Interesting point Doc that you bring up this act of mercy. One might ask, how could it possibly be merciful of God to block access to this tree of life? After all, if one could "eat" of it then one would live forever. Isn't that what we want? Doesn't man want to live for ever? But do we want to live for ever in this life that is tainted with sin and suffering and prevents us from enjoying the relationship with our Lord as it was intended in the beginning? Or do we want to have everlasting life in heaven with our Lord and enjoy the relationship with Him where we are in His presence at all times and there is no sin or suffering? God truly is merciful! Looking back on my post I'm afraid I may have used a poor choice of words and approach. I was thinking bigger picture (access to eternal life with Christ) when I said the tree of life is not blocked and sort of took the scripture out of context. I'm thankful for your post because it allowed me to see how hastily I posted and basically miss represented the actual scripture. Thank God for His mercy and thank you for your post! |

778 | Why did God block access to the tree of | Gen 3:24 | humbledbyhisgrace | 157146
Hardly can we say that God was fearful of man. He created man so exactly what would He have to be fearful of? Obedience is the answer to your question not fear. God had already given man access to everything in the beginning. It was mans disobedience that caused the problem. You ask why did God blocked the way to the tree of life? Take a closer look at Genesis 3:22 22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, lest he stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life , and eat, and live forever" (NASB) Notice it says "and now, lest he stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life , and eat, and live forever" The tree of life is not blocked brother, but man no longer has access to it lest he stretch out his hand and take from it. To gain access to it you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Man separated himself by being disobedient, but God provided man a way to live forever. Why would He do this if He was afraid of man living for ever? God's sovereignty and power are without question and cannot be challenged period. |

talmid, Please explain how Luke 14:26 is the foundation of being a Christian. Also, if you would explain, why you would point this verse out to someone that is questioning their faith as the foundation of being a Christian and not put it into context. |

780 | Beware "Another" | 2 Cor 11:4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 156484
My post is a little late responding to your question. I see several have already responded. Much of what I was thinking has already been said. Either way, I'll try and give my thoughts without repeating others that have responded. Well, I don't know much about this Pope and I have never followed any of his writings so I'm basing my opinion on his Homily and what I see in his written words. It appears throughout the Homily the Pope is pushing the importance of God, Son, Holy Spirit, God's Word, and urging the young people to get back in church. These are five things I believe in myself and think all Christians should spend much time pushing these things. In regards to your question "What do you think "the faith of the Church" is, and how does it open for us the meaning of Scripture?" Looking at the text, I can only assume he is referring to God, Son, and Holy Spirit when he talks about "faith". And as he goes on to say, "It is the Holy Spirit who guides the Church as her faith grows, causing her to enter ever more deeply into the truth ". For the sake of this discussion, what do you think he meant by "the faith of the Church" is, and how does it open for us the meaning of Scripture?" And, how do you think this relates to the original post about what the Pope said? |
