John 6:70 Jesus answered them, "Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?" John 6:71 Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him. Judas was the only one of the 12 whom Jesus named as being a devil. Hoppy |

Rom 9:18-19 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" The implication is that no creature can resist God's will. Hoppy |

66 | INVITATION | NT general | hopalong | 199957
Dear sqkeener, I noticed that you took exception to the fact that there was no invitation at the end of of the service. Was the gospel proclaimed? Was Christ glorified? If so the Holy Spirit was moving in the hearts of the congregation. I did a search on "Altar Call" and failed to find it in the New Testament. "What is often shocking to many who use the modern invitation system is that the altar call is just that modern. The practice, although widespread, is a very new phenomenon in the Christian church. For nearly nineteen centuries no one had ever heard of the practice. Such well known evangelists as George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, and even John Wesley had never even heard of such a custom. And Charles Spurgeon, that passionate winner of souls par excellence, although well acquainted with the practice, firmly refused to adopt it and even criticized it severely." Fred G. Dear Azure, thank you for responding. "Ironically, "the old fashioned altar call" was unheard of until the nineteenth century. It first came into being by the influence of Charles Finney, the pioneer of modern evangelistic methods. In Finney's crusades (c. 1830) seats at the front were reserved for those who, after the sermon, would respond to the challenge to come to the Lord's side. Those who were thus "anxious" for their souls were invited to walk forward to the "anxious seat" where counsel and prayer would be given them."...Fred G. Zaspel Grace to you, Hopalong |

Dear Workman, Matt 28:16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. Matt 28:17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." "Since Jesus instructed the apostles to make disciples, one needs to define the word disciple. In ancient Greek society the term disciple was used to describe a pupil or apprentice of a wise man. Disciples were seekers of knowledge and wisdom. In the Greek philosophical schools a disciple was a person who submitted himself to a gifted teacher. This discipling process involved a close relationship with and dependence upon the philosopher. The New Testament defines a disciple as a person who believes in Jesus Christ and then spends the rest of his or her life following the means of grace. Disciples must study God’s word and submit themselves to all the teachings of Christ. Because Jesus has delegated authority to ordained teaching servants, part of being a disciple involves joining a church and submitting to the elders of that church. “Obey those who rule over you and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account” (Heb. 13:17). Of course believers are only to submit to elders when they teach what Christ has commanded." Brian M. Schwertley As church members we must be mindful to pray earnestly for our leaders, for they bear a tremendous responsability. God Bless, Hopalong |

75 | how old is this world? | Genesis | hopalong | 203686
the following is from...gotquestions.org Ultimately, the age of the earth cannot be proven. Whether 6,000 years or 4.6 billion years – both viewpoints (and everything in between) rests on faith and assumptions. Those who hold to 4.6 billion years trust that methods such as radiometric dating are reliable, and that nothing has occurred in history that may have disrupted the normal decay of radio-isotopes. Those who hold to 6,000 years trust that the Bible is true, and that other factors explain the “apparent” age of the earth, such as the global flood, or God creating the universe in a state that “appears” to give it an very long age. As an example, God created Adam and Eve as fully-grown adult human beings. If a doctor were to have examined Adam and Eve on the day of their creation, the doctor would have estimated their age at 20 years (or whatever age they appeared to be) - when, in fact, Adam and Eve were less than one day old. Whatever the case, there is always good reason to trust the Word of God over the words of atheistic scientists with an evolutionary agenda. |

78 | Who are the "sons of God" in Genesis 6? | Gen 6:2 | hopalong | 189152
Friend... The synopsis of Genesis chapter 6, is that the Sons of God took the daughters of men to wife. They were believers who disobeyed God and went after the unsaved women who looked good, and in turn they brought forth unsaved seed who corrupted the earth so that there was nothing but evil continually. And God saw what they had done and sent the flood to wipe out the wickedness. And all perished except Noah and His. let that be a lesson to all of us. We must not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever, for that will cause terrible repercussions down the road. Unfortunately, this is "Exactly" what is happening today. Not only with believers going after, and marrying unbelievers literally, but also spiritually as the church is unequally yoking themselves with unbelievers. They are making all kinds of excuses for their actions, and they just don't realize what this error will bring upon the Church. Just as it did when Israel went after the women and men of the heathen nations around her. These turned them to false Gods and abominations. Slowly but surely (like a creeping vine or spreading cancer) it became their destruction. I speak out about this, but somehow, this just doesn't seem important to the Church today. I sadly say, "we learn from history, ..that we do not learn from History." I know this is as it must be, but my earnest Prayer is that some (though few that must be), will by Grace of God begin to learn from History. ..Bible History. Peace,(Tony Warren) I agree with tony Warrens conclusion for the following reason: it is based on Scipture alone. Let the Bible interpret the Bible. Throughout the old and new Testaments "sons of God is" are believers! |

79 | confused about Noahs son | Gen 9:22 | hopalong | 209613
Hi Mick, Noah was a righteous man, but he was not sinless. His son Ham, rather than calling his brothers to join him in deriding his father, should have covered his father's nakedness himself and not called his brothers to join him in witnesing his father's shameful condition. Thanks be to Christ that He has covered us with a robe by which our sins are not exposed to judgement. Hopalog |

Dear Dawna, our friend george has over looked the fact that our sins (past, present and future)have been been paid for by Jesus who died for 'His people" so they might live. Matt 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Hopalong |
