Many churches have traditional practices, such as a particular patterns of services. In Protestant churches, where the Bible is usually the final arbiter of doctrine, any story or belief not found therein is considered tradition, and not part of doctrine. In the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches the Sacred Tradition of the church may be considered doctrine.9 In the Bible, the traditions of men is sometimes contrasted with the word of God. For example, Jesus told the Pharisees, "You revoke God's word by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other similar things" (Mark 7:13). (wikipedia) |

24 | Why is the Christian Church so divided? | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 206363
Dear Brothers, TAKE HEART! Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; The true Church is not divided! Not in the eyes of Christ it is'nt. He knows His bride and when He returns for Her He will present her to His Father in all Her beauty and spotless perfection. Hoppy |

Some say that the gifts are for today, others say that the gifts have ceased. Others don't know. Christians are free to hold any of the above and not break fellowship over them. I'm one who is undecided on the gifts. I am far more disturbed over the charlatons on TV that seek filthy lucer in payment for "THE SEVEN SECRETS TO HEALING" OR" THE TWELVE STEPS TO PROSPERITY'! I do believe that God answers our prayers according to His perfect will. Hoppy |

27 | Questions about being Saved | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 206564
hsftang, Welcome! see if this article Helps. Hoppy Jesus is 100 percent God, 100 percent man It is vitl to be precise when we talk of the Person of Jesus Christ. Heresy looms large on either side of the biblical road, and many a soul has fallen in to its hellishly hewned ditches. Getting it right about Christ is not merely a job for elite theologians. All of us are called upon to proclaim, herald and worship the biblical Christ. Only the biblical Christ is worthy of worship. Only the biblical Christ can save. That's because the biblical Christ is the only one who truly exists. Jesus warned us that many false Christs would appear. This is the case in two ways: Firstly, there are false Christs who appear in human history to draw away disciples after themselves; secondly, there are false Christs erected in the minds of people, such as a Christ who is God but not man, or a man, but not God. Either kind is deadly to the soul. So who exactly is the biblical Christ? The scriptures reveal very clearly that He is God and He is man. He is not a concocted blend of God and man, being perhaps 50 percent God and 50 percent man. He is full and undiminished deity and true humanity - in one Person. Exactly how can this be understood? I came across a very helpful article on this theme today from Desiring God Ministries here . I recommend it highly. May the truths govern our thinking and guide our worship, as we do so in spirit and in truth. - Pastor John Samson Hoppy |

28 | whjat does it mean man's free will | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 208082
Hi John, What is the will but the servant of man's strongest desire? It has been likened to a scale which tips one way or the other. Desire arises from a man's heart, which is by nature wicked and corrupt. Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Hoppy |

How different is the God of the Bible from the God of modern Christendom! The conception of Deity which prevails most widely today, even among those who profess to give heed to the Scriptures, is a miserable caricature, a blasphemous travesty of the Truth. The God of the twentieth century is a helpless, effeminate being who commands the respect of no really thoughtful man. The God of the popular mind is the creation of maudlin sentimentality. The God of many a present-day pulpit is an object of pity rather than of awe-inspiring reverence. To say that God the Father has purposed the salvation of all mankind, that God the Son died with the express intention of saving the whole human race, and that God the Holy Spirit is now seeking to win the world to Christ; when, as a matter of common observation, it is apparent that the great majority of our fellowmen are dying in sin, and passing into a hopeless eternity; is to say that God the Father is disappointed, that God the Son is dissatisfied, and that God the Holy Spirit is defeated. We have stated the issue baldly, but there is no escaping the conclusion. To argue that God is "trying His best" to save all mankind, but that the majority of men will not let Him save them, is to insist that the will of the Creator is impotent, and that the will of the creature is omnipotent. To throw the blame, as many do, upon the Devil, does not remove the difficulty, for if Satan is defeating the purpose of God, then, Satan is Almighty and God is no longer the Supreme Being. Hi Tim, afer all is said and done, we will never plumb the depths of God's Word. Frankly, I find it odd for us to relagate any portion of Scripture the dustbin of the archives. Christians are like the flowers in a garden, that have each of them the dew of Heaven, which, being shaken with the wind, they let fall at each other’s roots, whereby they are jointly nourished, and become nourishers of each other. John Bunyan (1628-1688) |

From one sinner to another, Take Hope: The Lesson of the Rich Young Ruler How good are you? Does Christianity teach as other religions do to improve ones self to be accepted by God? You can’t be accepted by God by any religious work you do no matter how great it is, what God accepts is to have faith in the Gospel. This is what the Bible teaches us. One day the Pharisees who prided themselves on their works and devotion to God came to Jesus and asked what must we do to do the work of God. Jesus replied: “believe on him who sent.” This destroys any notion of using ones own righteousness for acceptance before God. Isa. 64:6: “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” In other words nothing we can do on our own has God approve of us. In Mk.10:17-22 We find a rich man running to Jesus and kneels asking him, “Good teacher (Rabbi) what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? He recognizes that he does not have eternal life, who better to ask then Jesus. What must I do to have it. He has a works related idea for salvation. To call Jesus good meant a moral perfection in Judaism, not just being a caring kindhearted person. So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” The emphasis is on THE good teacher which no rabbi was called. Jesus explains that “One there is who is good,” only God who is good in the absolute sense. http://www.letusreason.org/Apolo24.htm |

33 | Why was John the baptist so important? | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 212920
It is clear that in the early Church the ministry of John the Baptist is seen as marking the boundary between the age of the promise of the kingdom of God and the arrival of the kingdom in the person of Jesus-Messiah. This is true, according to the testimony of Acts, for both the key apostles--for Peter, the apostle to the Jews, and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. http://www.founders.org/journal/fj50/article2.html |

Cor 12:8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 2 Cor 12:9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Cor 12:10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Trust in the Lord. I am in the early stages of what may be Altimers disease. Ihave been praying that this thorn in the flesh may be removed. Never the less, God's will be done.
