62 | Who are the Ammonites? | Gen 10:16 | BMyers | 201538
Hey Doc, Question, my Bible dictionaries and online Catholic Encyclopedia, plus a few other sites do list the "Ammonites" as the correct reference for the Ammon descendants. The dead sea creature is spelt with the lower case 'ammonite'. Is there a difference of opinions on the proper name for this race or did I miss something along the way. Thanks, Brad |

67 | Ex 12:29 | Ex 12:23 | BMyers | 233926
And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD. (Job 1:12 ESV) Satan is the one who tested Job. God allowed it. Job's friends were sure he had sinned and that is why, but they were proven wrong (Job 42:7-9). You do understand that the OT people viewed anything bad coming from God as punishement for their sin, which Job shows this not to be true. Brad |

68 | What does the Bible say about gambling? | Ex 20:17 | BMyers | 214692
I would like to add, are you being a good steward of God's money when you gamble? Matthew 25:14-30 Brad |

69 | What does the Bible say about gambling? | Ex 20:17 | BMyers | 214695
I'm sure John will answer in greater detail, but the main issue of gambling is the fact of stewardship. Are you being a good steward of what God has blessed you with? Along with the central issue of stewardship, what about the effect it has on the community and/or the individual. I will give you a prime example, we have a gambling boat in the neighboring community. A lady went and gambled six thousand dollars (one article says eight thousand) of her money away. She then realized what she had done and instead of confusing to her husband, she went and shot herself. She survived and then told the police she had been robbed. (The articles are in The Telegraph for Alton, IL). This is one of hundreds of stories about how gambling has destroyed a person/family. Are we called to be our brothers/sister keeper? Romans 14 I still say the main reason that gambling is wrong, is that one is failing to be a good steward with what God has given them. Brad |

70 | ADULTRY VS BIGAMY #3 | Ex 21:10 | BMyers | 221937
I know a good realtor if you need any help. :) More seriously, verses have been given that shows God's choice was for one man and one woman. We can see that God, sometimes allows things that He didn't desire that away. The example I'm thinking of is divorce. God never wanted a marriage (Matt 19:6 and Malachi 2:16) to separate. Yet, Mosaic law allowed for it (Matt 19:8) and Jesus made it a more specific (Matt 19:9). So we can see from this example, that marriage was originally setup to never end, but through the Mosaic law and man's corruption, divorce was allowed, not that it was God's preferred way. Following this train of thought, marriage was meant for one man and one woman, but God allowed the change even though that wasn’t his preferred way. Yet adultry, which is sex outside of marriage has never been approved. Did I make any sense? Brad |

71 | Eye for an Eye | Ex 21:24 | BMyers | 221264
I believe thou shall not kill is actually an incorrect translation, the correct should be shall not murder, which I believe most modern translations have corrected. Exo 20:13 "You shall not murder. Brad |

72 | Eye for an Eye | Ex 21:24 | BMyers | 221265
Just to add a footnote, murder is defined as the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought (Webster) were as kill is defined as to deprive of life : cause the death of (Webster). So if the verse was translated as 'kill' then there would be an issue, but when translated as 'murder', there is no issue with capital punishment (based on the definitions). Brad |

73 | Place where Bible stood still one hour | Joshua | BMyers | 215028
According to the scripture, it appears to me that it may have stood still for longer than an "hour". If I'm reading it correctly, it appears to be stating that it was a whole day, not an hour. So, once again, I'm not sure that it was an hour, I think it was longer. Please give me scriptural support that it was only an hour. Thanks, Brad |

74 | how man judges were in the old testament | Judges | BMyers | 223657
There are 12 listed in the book of Judges. Yet, Moses also was a judge. Exo 18:13 The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. (ESV) Also, the task of being a judge was given to others. Exo 18:25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. Exo 18:26 And they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves. (ESV) Brad |

77 | Who or what was sacrificed? | Judg 11:39 | BMyers | 199869
Just because I joke about my grandma's faithfulness to the KJV (my dad's also) doesn't mean I don't appreciate the years of passionate study and their love and hunger for God's Word. I make fun of the translation issues more so because I feel most get blown out of proportion. God has used the KJV to wonderfully speak to generations of people and I would never try to get my grandma to switch. I hope someday that I'm as versed in the Word as she is. On the other side, I know that the good Lord has used and is using modern translations like the NIV and the NASB to speak to multitudes in a language that doesn't appear so archaic to them. If I thought that reading one version vs another would truly make a person a better Christian, I would do everything in my power to promote that version. Yet, I have realized that it isn't the version that makes you a Christian. It isn't the version that gives you the passion for God's Word. It is God's grace and Holy Spirit that drives and fills the hunger for more of the Word. After years working as a paramedic, I've come to realize how short this brief life on this earth can be. I've seen many people taken from this world before what we would consider their time. I've seen family's weep; I've seen family's being comforted by the knowledge of knowing where their love one has gone. Through all this I have come to two realizations. The first, you must always be prepared for your call to Glory. Secondly, life is too short to be worried about things that are not of eternal value. Worry about the things of eternal value and have fun with the rest! Brad |

78 | kings in old testament | 1 Kings | BMyers | 223658
Well, if you are asking about all the kings in the Old Testament, it is more than 43. First one that comes to mind is Melchizedek. Gen 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) (ESV) Then you start counting the various Pharaohs. I had heard once, there are close to 90 kings mentioned by name in the Old Testament, yet I have never taken the time to count them and list them with the Biblical reference. According to Encyclopedia of Biblical facts, 19 Kings of Israel and 20 Kings of Judah which doesn't include Saul, David, or Solomon. Brad |

79 | how many horses did Solomon have?? | 1 Kings | BMyers | 228057
1 Kings 5:26 states he had 40,000 stalls of horses. Now I'm not a horseman or a cowboy, but I would believe we could make a safe assumption that he had at least 40,000 horses and depending on the size of the stalls maybe more. Brad |
||||||
80 | how many horses did Solomon have?? | 1 Kings | BMyers | 228061
It might help if I would quote the correct verse also 1 Kings 4:26, not 5:26. So for the mistype. 1Ki 4:26 Solomon also had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen. |
