21 | Noah | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 220570
My opinion on the passage is that Ham did something wrong. We are suppose to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12 and Deuteronomy 5:16). In the NT we can see that the Jesus even mentioned honoring your parents and how the leaders of the time had corrupted this commandment (Matthew 15:3-9). Ham appears to be dishonoring his father by his behavior when he found his father drunk. In my opinion the reason he was cursed was because of his failure to honor his father. Brad |

22 | omitted scripture ..BRAD K | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 220871
My mistake and accept my apology (unfortunately I've been off work today fighting a nasty little cold bug and have lots of cold medicine in me). The short answer is the manuscripts that KJV relied on verses what other translations use (example the Dead Sea Scrolls where not available to the KJV translators). Just because the statement appears to be a good statement, doesn't mean it was in the original text. How do we know what was in the original text? By comparing various manuscripts, codex, and fragments. Without this turning into a way longer post than I feel up to right now, some scriptures that come to mind is the ending of Mark, the story of the woman caught in adultery, and the ending of the Lord's prayer. Many of the modern translations (NASB, ESV, NIV, NLT, NKJV) make notes of scripture that may or may not belong there. Hope this help. Brad (Example of a tranlating problem, if I say "boy thats cool", what do I mean? Do I mean it is phyiscally cool or is it something I find fascinating? (I know a very simple example just trying to give you something to think on.)) |

23 | Who were the 1st Jews (Judah's tribe ?) | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 221084
I've pretty much quit worrying about what others call me (as long as they don't call me late for supper) and worry about what the Lord thinks and I think the title that would fit you Doc, is a free child of God who is an heir by His grace. Gal 3:22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Gal 3:23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. Gal 3:24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. Gal 3:25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, Gal 3:26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. (ESV) Brad |

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is James 2:19 where even the demons believe in God. Jas 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder! I will not pretend to know much about the Hindu religion. I know it is very complex and centers around (if I remember correctly) Brahman. Is there a difference between Hindu and Christianity? Yes! Here is a link http://www.gotquestions.org/Hindu-Christian.html to discussing some differences between the two. Maybe someone on this forum with more knowledge on the Hindu religion can share more information. Ultimately, until you make Jesus Lord of your life, peace can be an impossible thing to find. Brad |

Paula, I'm assuming that you read the terms of service and you are over the age of 18 as per the TOS this question comes because our past VBS have been for kids from 6 to 13. As for as telling Doc to keep his comments to himself, he was trying to save you and us wasted time. The members of this forum do not mind helping those search out answers, yet when a poster doesn't take time to thoroughly post the question, it is a waste of everyone's time. Doc was kind enough to give you the name and verse for your previous question, where as I would only give you the book the answer was found in (does one good to search out the answer on his/her own). I think you should reconsider your answer to Doc and remember as Christians we are treat each other as Christ has treated us. Brad |

27 | Crusifixtion a sacrafice? John 3:16 | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 223562
I will have to disagree with men that have been tortured in a much greater degree statement. Mark 15:34, shows a torture that none of us can understand. Even knowing death was a temporal matter for Christ, doesn't make the sacrifice any less significant to go through. The example that comes to mind is mother fiving birth to her child. The pain is tremendous, thankfully modern medicine has made this task easier on woman, yet none the less still struggle, even though they know it will only last for a short period of time. The length of time in the grave seems insignificant even though He knew that it was only for x days, months, or years (just like a mother giving birth will know it will only last x amount time). The sacrifice was the taking of His perfect state and making it imperfect by bearing the sins of those that couldn't. Yes, you were right I do get irritated and I forget at times, that Jesus doesn't need my help to defend Himself (Mat 26:53). Thank you for taking my comments in stride. Brad |

29 | Are we born a sinner or do we become one | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 225867
Actually, it is both. The Son is the solution for the sin issue. You are correct, Jesus is the propitiation for our sin and this blessing has made available to all who repent and believe. 1Jn 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Jn 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 32 | Easter | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 227413
If my memory serves me correctly, the pagan part comes in from the German goddess of fertility (word Easter is believed to have derived from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility, which is part of the reason for the Easter bunny and the eggs). One can also make the argument that the word Easter did not come from the mistranslation of the word, but was a word that was made to designate the time period of Jesus death and resurrection. Brad |

35 | Everybody dies with recent sins | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 231572
Very well put. I know being raised Pentecostal, I was afraid that I would commit a sin just before I died and not get into heaven. Once I realized my salvation is based only on my acceptance of God's gift and that God does all the work, it has dramatically changed my view. I went from looking at God as one who has His finger on the button just waiting to send me to hell, to a Father who has done everything to allow me to join Him. My relationship changed from a list of I can't do this, to a list of I want to do this. I don't understand why God loves me the way He does, from my mindset, I could find a whole lot of other people to love rather than me. Yet, He does and I know this because His Word tells me so. Maybe this children’s song can express it best for me: Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong. Chorus: Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. Jesus loves me! This I know, As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, “Let them come to Me.” Chorus Jesus loves me when I'm good, When I do the things I should, Jesus loves me when I'm bad, Though it makes Him very sad. Chorus Jesus loves me still today, Walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give Light and love to all who live. Chorus Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in. Chorus Jesus loves me! Loves me still Tho' I'm very weak and ill; That I might from sin be free Bled and died upon the tree. Chorus Jesus loves me! He will stay Close beside me all the way; Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee. Brad |
