61 | Getting closer to the Creator | 2 Tim 2:15 | Glory Bound | 134168
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2Ti 2:15-16 I would recommend the book of James. Read it 7 times. You may wish to purchase "How to study The Bible for Yourself" by Tim LaHaye. You wil truly be enriched by this book. GB |

62 | Can somebody explain world ending? | 2 Tim 3:1 | Glory Bound | 134270
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,... 2Ti 3:1-2 You ask a question to which there is no answer. I'm sure, however that there are many "Gloom and Doomers" which would be glad to tell you a story, their vision of such a thing as the end of the world. The truth of the matter is that there is no mention of "an ending of the world" in scripture. There is, however, which tells us what will happen prior to, and when "the passing of this world as we now know it" takes place. Read Mark, chapter 13 for a glimpse. You may wish to consider reading Tim LaHaye's series "Left Behind." It is an excellent series that is true to the book of Revelations. The last book in that series, coupled with my bible, and a good computer bible search program, was a gold mine of info for me. GB |

63 | should I worry about using NIV over KJV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Glory Bound | 129774
To date, there are some very wise answers to your question. The Holy Spirit showed me the NIV shortly after it was published in it's entirety in the late 1970's. At the time I had made up my mind that I was going to read the bible from cover to cover. I started in the KJ reading 10 chapters a day. It wasn’t long till I realized that I simply didn’t understand ½ of what I was reading, but I was determined, so I started reading like this; Today I would read chapters 1 through 10. Tomorrow, 5 through 15. The following day, 10 to 20, and so on. This was a slow process, but I did understand quiet a bit more. At the time, I did not know that there was a bible other than the King James. At least, not one I wanted to believe in. In prayer, I told the Lord one night that there must be something out there that I could understand better than the KJ. I was in the Navy aboard the USS Eisenhower. One day while walking through a passageway, I spied a young fella in a corner reading a book. I don’t know why, but I asked him what he was reading; He stated. “The Bible.” I told him, “it doesn’t look like my bible.” He said. It’s the same as the King James. To make a long story short, I borrowed that NIV from this stranger. We became the best of friends, and through a little monetary persuasion, about 50 bucks for this 10.00 issue, I finally talked him out of that bible. Whereas I was double reading the King James, and understanding, maybe 70 percent of what I was reading, I immediately started reading 60 or more chapters a day in the NIV and understanding 90percent plus. I have determined that I will not be misled when it comes to the word of God. I have scrutinized the NIV in reference with the KJV and the Interlinear Hebrew, Greek, English Version. There is no doubt in my mind that of what scripture is available today, the NIV is an inspired translation which is as good as the best and better than most. Look at Ps 23:5 in the KJ and NIV. Then see what it says in the Good News Bible. If there is that notable a difference, are you wise enough to recognize the others? KJV- my cup runneth over, NIV-my cup overflows (same meaning) Gnb-fill my cup to the brim (there is a large difference between a cup filled to the brim and one which is overflowing.) My favorite passage is 2 Timothy 2:15 Check it out. Your determination and perseverance will pay off. GB |

66 | once saved always saved? | 2 Tim 4:18 | Glory Bound | 128836
Personally I have always leaned against believing once saved always saved, yet I can provide just as many scriptural passages for "once saved, always saved" as I can against it. My determination concerning the thought is that it is a dangerous belief, thus through the Grace of God I am going to do my best to live as His word tells me I should, and when such questions as yours arise, I will lean on Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." GB |

67 | Will wayward christians be forgiven? | Heb 6:4 | Glory Bound | 128839
Heb 6:4 is not a supposition, but a plain relation of fact. The apostle here describes the case of those who have cast away both the power and the form of godliness; who have lost both their faith, hope, and love, Heb 6:10, and that wilfully, Heb 10:26. Of these wilful total apostates he declares, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance. (though they were renewed once,) either to the foundation, or anything built thereon. Seeing they crucify the Son of God afresh - They use him with the utmost indignity. And put him to an open shame - Causing his glorious name to be blasphemed. Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 68 | can you lose it? | Heb 6:4 | Glory Bound | 128840
Yes, yet for every passage which appears to teach such, I have found that there is another passage which appears to teach once saved always saved (which I personally do not believe in.) Am I saying that scripture contradicts itself? No. What I am saying is that that there is much which I do not understand, so because of the realization of this fact I personally lean on Proverbs 3:5 I attest that though many insist on trying to support their personal view concerning this matter, their arguments for or against serve only to farther divide and confuse. 70 | sum up the book of james | James 1:22 | Glory Bound | 132111
This epistle of James is one of the most instructive writings in the New Testament. Being chiefly directed against particular errors at that time brought in among the Jewish Christians, it does not contain the same full doctrinal statements as the other epistles, but it presents an admirable summary of the practical duties of all believers. The leading truths of Christianity are set forth throughout; and on attentive consideration, it will be found entirely to agree with St. Paul's statements concerning grace and justification, while it abounds with earnest exhortations to the patience of hope and obedience of faith and love, interspersed with warnings, reproofs, and encouragements, according to the characters addressed. The truths laid down are very serious, and necessary to be maintained; and the rules for practice ought to be observed in all times. In Christ there are no dead and sapless branches, faith is not an idle grace; wherever it is, it brings forth fruit in works. GB |

73 | Traditional answer? | 1 Pet 4:6 | Glory Bound | 131547
Those refered in this passage as "those who are dead," are the non believers. They are dead in their sin. Those who have not accepted Jesus Christs Gift of salvation are "the walking dead." Sadly, they simply haven't realized or accepted it yet. GB |

74 | If you live right, you are rewarded? | 1 John 1:9 | Glory Bound | 134262
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man ACCORDING TO HIS WORKS. Mat 16:27 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 75 | a more revealing light. | 1 John 2:3 | Glory Bound | 132830
Thanks folks. I appreciate your responses. It took little more than for me to open my bible, for me to remember the following. I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Romans 7:15-25.NIV I pray this passage will be as strenthtening to others as it, and your posts are to me. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. GB |
