601 | Women speak in church? | 1 Cor 14:34 | charis | 3487
Dear friend inHzsvc, I laud your desire to keep men in their proper place of authority in the church. I assure you that many others share this holy desire, but their methods may be different. I still must challenge you on your claim that your method is 100 percent effective, and that all other methods are ineffective. In any case, you 'think that you know' absolutely what God speaks on this issue. You also say that anyone who does not 'know' this is corrupted by these liberal days. I am sure that Jesus Himself will have a better answer, that surprises both the conservatives and the liberals with His authority, just like when He walked this earth. Until then, I will hold that men have opinions, and they differ. As to your statement about 'older commentators,' I appreciate your desire to conserve the teachings of previous generations of saints, but the book of Joel, quoted by Peter on the day of Pentecost, prophesies that the Spirit will give new revelation as we come closer to the return of the Lord Jesus. Old is good, yes, but God still reserves the right to teach us new things and restore lost things in the Spirit. I almost forgot to answer your question. In my church, men and women and children all, quiet themselves and listen to the preaching of the word of God. With all due respect, duh! Blessings this Easter day, if it is not outlawed by the heathen origins of the name :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

602 | Women speak in church? | 1 Cor 14:34 | charis | 3474
Dear inHzsvc, I notice the capital :-) Yes, these are liberal times we live in. However, if you take the 'then, there, so forever and wherever' approach, you must apply it to every single thing. So, in your church are women forbidden to sing and worship? Does this only apply to the period of time when the services are being held, or are women not allowed a peep at anytime within the walls of your church building. Does this include the parking lot, or even on the way to church. How about female children? Forgive me, I only use these absurdities to show the legalistic nature of the argument. I am sure that a woman could usurp authority over a man without saying a word, and I daresay that it may happen even in your church. It is also possible for women to speak, yet be fully under the authority of men. Our attitude of faith can make the difference. As I spoke on another line, I believe that pastoral authority should be in the hands of men chosen by God. But to 'gag' or 'muzzle' women using legalistic interpretation of scripture is not my bent. You deplore my use of 'I think' and 'I believe,' but I must say that your 'I know' and 'the scripture says' is just another version of the same thing. Otherwise, the church would not be split the way it is. Or, perchance, are you claiming 'right,' with everyone else 'wrong?' If we say, "Thus saith the Lord in His word..." are we not acting as prophets proclaiming the word of God? Friend, we all have ideas of what the word of God says. My own thinking (I think) is that 'I know' is not very humble, nor is it absolute. The only thing that I claim to know, is Jesus Christ, and His salvation. I am happy to know that your church is conservative in these liberal times, and pray that the peace of the Lord Jesus would be upon you in abundance. Love in Jesus' name, charis |

604 | God can use woman in the ministry? | Gal 3:28 | charis | 3430
Dear jim, you are correct, all believers have ministry. Indeed, many women have been used by God to do His will. You will note that I never said 'never.' However, the Bible pattern is clear, and the four circumstances I outlined speak for themselves. It is true, if a man will not speak for God, He will use another. In the case of pastoral authority, I believe God will choose another man. Any pastor will tell you that his wife is invaluable to him in shepherding the flock given to his care, and any wise pastor will use women to help in the church. No one is diputing this. (Well, maybe some would not want women to even talk in church, but this is the fringe element) In my church we have deaconesses and prophetesses. The pastor and elder's wives serve diligently, and it could even be called a 'co-ministry.' Ladies, there is no shame in obeying the patterns of the Bible. Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

605 | Double standard? | Eph 4:11 | charis | 2826
Dear RCScroll, I am fine, kind sir! Sorry I didn't get back to you, I have been very busy this last week. Your question is fair and poignant. Yes, there is one person in my church answering the description of apostle, and a few saints that fulfil the ministry of prophecy. None 'call themselves' Apostle or Prophet, and they are not considered 'above' anyone else in the congregation. It is simply what they do, and they do it as unto the Lord, serving His people. I agree that many call themselves apostles because they travel a lot, preaching here and there, and maybe write books about how to 'feel good' in Jesus. I do not believe this emulates Paul or Barnabas. (as they claim) I also agree that many long-winded, loud-mouthed preachers spouting unrelated, confusing scripture references, saying, "Thus saith the Lord..." and 'seeing' outrageous, disjointed and mutually exclusive visions are not prophets. I am truly sorry for your friends. There must be accountability for those who serve the Lord in His gifts. I have also been hurt by a man with a wonderful apostolic ministry that was ruined when he started calling himself an Apostle. It's not the name or the title, it's the service to the saints of God. If you want to know more contact me by Hotmail, and I will show you what I mean. By the way, I do not think that missionary equals present-day apostles. I know too many missionaries! Some may fulfil the description, but not very many. At least not the modern (per)version of missionary work. Blessings and love in Christ Jesus, charis |

606 | Use Info Update? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 2824
Dear Chris, Info is on the left for me, too! I wish I could blame it on bilingual confusion, but left is left in Japanese, just sounds different :-) I will also start encouraging people personally to reveal themselves, following your and JVH0212's example. Possibly if we know a bit about one another, (no matter how dull, Hank! :-) we will be a bit more merciful. I know I will! Love and blessings in Christ Jesus, cahris |

607 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2396
Dear JVH0212, Sorry, friend. I meant "dummies." because the Bible speaks (or in this case does not speak) to us all :-) No offense intended, just stupidity, as I very clearly warned. Asking for grace in Jesus' name, charis |

608 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2392
Dear inhzsvc, You are correct, that is what I meant. Also, though Jesus was flesh, His body is now glorified, no longer flesh like us. I await the glorification of the body, soul, and spirit that will make us like Him. (Not exactly, but a lot closer than the present) In Christ Jesus, charis |

609 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2311
Dear JVH0212, You know as well as I do that the Bible doesn't say, "The soul and spirit are separate entities, dummy!" :-) Please read what I wrote to inhzsvc a few minutes ago. Sorry to be shuffling back and forth between you two fellows. Spell-checker and coffee, Amen! Brain synapses are mired in sleep-molasses... Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |

610 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2310
Dear inhzsvc, Because we cannot 'know' until we meet Him, we can only believe. Even the best of Bible scholars have no recourse but to say, "I believe," or "I think" on many issues. Now, about your system, though the theology sounds right, the reality is hard to reconcile. If I am correct, you are saying that unsaved men are body and soul-spirit. Then, upon salvation they are body, soul-spirit, and Holy Spirit. Even in saved people, emotions and rationality are too fickle to be called 'perfected' or regenerated. "Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..."" Genesis 1:26 This 'image' and 'likeness' must be our soul and-or spirit, because God is not flesh. The spirit of man, regenerate or degenerate could still speak of this image. However, the soul, the emotion, the rational-irrational part does not seem like God at all! Saved or unsaved. My 'system' would explain the situation of a saved church, but all men sin. This would explain the battle that Paul waged within himself, as we also do. Our spirit is regenerated in Christ Jesus, but our soul is not totally under the authority of the Spirit of God. Regarding the 4-part man, the Holy Spirit is a 'Helper' to our spirit. In fact, the two are almost as one. I say almost, because, though we may be like Jesus, we will not become God. In any case these are my thoughts. It is different from what you proferred, and quite different from JVH0212 and John MacArthur. Mine is simpler and more elegant (neat), though the Bible does not say, "The soul and the spirit of man are seperate, dummy!" I think that much of the confusion comes from the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. I does seem that the two are used interchangeably and arbitrarily. This could be because of the diference in the relationship between God and His people(?) However, in the New Testament the differences between soul and spirit are more evident, especially in the understanding of regeneration, the born again experience. Well, I am getting groggy. If I write any more, I may fall into stupidity. Good night. In Christ Jesus, charis |

612 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2294
Dear JVH0212, Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. I wish I could say that I have been studying furiously to find a good answer, but I've just been busy with other things. I do not have 'the' answer, just 'an' answer. With all due respect to John MacArthur, I disagree with his opinion on this issue. Again I cite Hebrews 4:12, and 1Thessalonians 5:23. In addition, "At night my soul longs for Thee, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks Thee diligently; For when the earth experiences Thy judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness." Isaiah 26:9 NASB. I think that man is at least two parts is obvious to all. The body, that is 'of the earth,' and perishable. Then the spirit, which is the part 'in the image of God.' Then we have the soul, a capricious part, a 'switch-hitter' that seems akin to the spirit at times, and swayed by the flesh at others. It encompasses our emotions and thoughts, and is similar to other created things (animals). This is why we can 'rationalize' sin. Hebrews 4:12 would be telling us that by rightly dividing the two, we can 'pull' the soul toward God. Satan would like to allow our souls to be more affected by the flesh, so creates lies that deceive our 'unstable' portion. In answer to another question, this would mean that prior to salvation, our spirit is lost, but our spirit is 'born again' to new life in Jesus. I don't think that we are 'spirit-less,' and then given one. Rather, the spirit that was fallen by the sin of Adam, was regenerated. Though I am sure there are 'academic' problems with this scenario, it does solve many weak areas of 'pure theology.' Let me know what you think. (without 'blowing a gasket' :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |

613 | Is God fair? | Ps 11:7 | charis | 2250
Dear robbitybob, Good points and good website! As Chris said, "God is JUST" Amen! The Bible speaks of reward, and also of reaping what you sow, very clearly. However, when it comes to salvation, everyone is saved equally (fairly). Nobody can be 'partially in Heaven' or 'partially in Hell.' Here on earth, and in His holy presence, we have varying ministries, gifts, talents and rewards. But these are not in the human sense of 'one above another' or one more righteous than another. More, it seems only to be that one may have more responsibility for service than another. Certainly, 'reward' cannot be in earthly currency. Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

615 | Woe to us? | Matt 23:13 | charis | 2207
Dear prayon, I take it that you are not a minister, or at least not of the 'paid clergy' type. I once brought this up before a group of said type, and thought they were going to get a stake and some kindling! :-) I did make it out of the meeting alive, but I was never invited again! Though I do not have the exact answer, I would guess that the 'humiliation'and 'de-humanization' (less like man, more like Jesus) of ministry is necessary. 'Dollars to doughnuts' (not very applicable any more :-) says that Ephesians 4:11 is part of God's plan for unifying the church against Pharisaical order. Thank you for a clear, honest answer. Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

616 | Bible has 1188 chap's, cntr is Psalm 118 | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 2203
Dear EdB, I appreciate your answer, and all your work! If I get your point, all that counting didn't change your faith in God, right? Numerology is fine for those who have nothing better to do than count. As one that has 'done math' a bit, I have found that you can make statistics and numbers say whatever you want. In any case, the numerical representation of the Word of God can neither confirm nor deny anything except the opinion of the calculator. "For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12 NASB. In Christ Jesus, charis |

617 | How can we assist our youth? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 2187
Dear prayon, Great answer! This one is going up on the church bulletin board, but I have to translate it into Japanese first. If I may, without giving offense, I would like to add a few comments. The church, for all age groups, must teach respect and responsibility as key elements of fellowship among the saints. (This is, of course, after our spiritual attitude toward the Lord) If these are taught to all, it would include the youth, and they would partake of the benefits. If there is an unhealthy division anywhere along the line in a church, young people will see it in a moment, and call it rightly, hypocrisy. In every area, and to all who come, the church must portray the love, truth, and reality of our Lord Jesus. This would mean, though, that we cannot favor the youth, either. They must participate in this 'universal' respect and responsibility. After all, "Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him." Proverbs 22:15 NASB. We must recognize a natural tendency to rebel and be foolish, and try to deal with it beforehand, if at all possible. (This would make us a little wiser than them, I hope :-) After the fact (sin or 'unwise decisions'), we must accept them, and try to 'minimize the damage,' and teach them the importance of ongoing repentance. I do not believe we should accept their foolishness and allow it to continue in the church, for that would be hypocrisy. We must be wise and gentle, as Jesus is, but firm and determined, as He also is. I discern that one of the greatest problem areas in dealing with young people is the correct wielding of discipline. There seems to be a 'pendulum effect' working that either is too strict and demanding, or too forgiving, allowing sin to escalate. This would be an off-center balance-weight. Worse would be the absence of a balance-weight, causing wild swings of love and wrath, leniency and unreasonable strictness. Jesus is our balance-weight, and He always points to perfect center. When He walked the earth, He always shocked those who heard Him. The Pharisees were shocked at His authority concerning the Word of God, the sinners were shocked at His love and grace. He was always righteous and kind, in a simple, straightforward manner. This is what we must show forth in the church, and our youth will be ministered to as a matter of course. As another saint observed, we should not be focused on the youth, on missions, on worship, on healing, on study, on the pastor, on the denomination or 'covering,' or on anything but Jesus. If we find Him, every area will be covered. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

619 | Without the Spirit? | Acts 2:38 | charis | 2162
Dear inhzsvc, without gasoline, a Ferrari is red and beautiful, and expensive, but inanimate. Also a Ferrari without the growl, the roar, and assorted engine music is only eye-candy :-) In any case, I cannot experience anything but the sights and sounds of the one, but I can experience the animate power of the other. Though I agree with you in the semantic sense, the church was almost totally impotent until His Spirit indwelled them. That I why I said they were 'created' on the Day of Pentecost. I was under the impression that this was a commonly held view. If I am mistaken, I stand corrected. Friend, I apologize for my assumption regarding baptism. The flow of the conversation up to that point was getting a bit heated on that issue. Truly, I do consider this forum to be fellowship (koinonia), and the many different opinions expressed by yourself and all the saints do nothing to change that in my mind and heart. Indeed, you and I agree on very much more than we disagree. Blessings and peace to you in Jesus' name, charis |

Dear Xapis, Please, my friend and colleague, do not misunderstand me. I no way do I consider you arrogant. Truly. I write in my manner only to address the 'whole of us' involved in this forum of ideas and fellowship. I only write 'Dear Xapis,' in order to clarify that I read your comment, and then continue on to address the forum. (Sounds like ancient Rome. I begin to understand how Julius felt :-) I fear that I am often misunderstood in this way, and I am sorry. The only way I know to alleviate this is to write to my Hotmail address in my user profile. I am certain that if you get to know me, I am not (quite) as obnoxious as some may think. I am afraid that I am a preacher by nature, please forgive. Many blessings to you, Xapis, and to all the saints in the Forum. In Christ Jesus, charis |
