581 | Mistaken View Or False Doctrine? | Eph 1:13 | stjohn | 205284
Dear Tamara: Salvation, equals believing in Jesus, plus nothing. Repenting and believing are the same, you cant believe without a change of mind which is what repentance means. Tarrying at the altar to get tongues, is clearly not taught in Scripture. Sorry, but I don't really see anything, substantively efficacious, by having further discussion. You can check the archives and read for days. :-) God bless John |

582 | "the two" and "one new man" refer to ? | Eph 2:15 | stjohn | 216189
Hi Azure, I think it means both groups. When read in context, I think that is pretty clear. John Gill wrote on verse 15: "Jews and Gentiles, one people, one body, one church; he united them together, and caused them to agree in one, and made them to be of one mind and judgment by the above methods; as well as he gathered them together in one, in one head, himself, who represented them all:" I believe it is written as one man, I suppose, because that that refers to one body, one blood, all in all, and all in Him. 583 | Ephesian 3:10 | Eph 3:10 | stjohn | 185017
Hello Azure; Here is something from Crosswalk.com I have found them very helpful in my study John Gill's Exposition of the Bible Ephesians 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places? By whom are meant, not civil magistrates, much less evil angels, but the good angels, the angels in heaven; (See Gill on Ephesians 1:21). might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God; not the perfection of wisdom, nor Jesus Christ the wisdom of God, nor the holy Scriptures; but the Gospel, which is the pure produce of the wisdom of God; which is gloriously displayed in the several doctrines of it; as in election, in choosing men in Christ for the security of their persons, in founding it not upon their works, but his own grace, for the security of his purpose, and in pitching on such persons as he has, for the magnifying of his grace: and in redemption, which is seen in the person of the Redeemer, who is both God and man; and in the manner in which it is effected, being both for the glory of God's grace and mercy, and for the honour of his justice and holiness; and wherein Satan is mortified, sin is condemned, and the sinner saved: and in justification, whereby sinful men become just with God: God is just, and yet the justifier of him that believes; the ungodly is justified, and yet not justified in his ungodliness, but from it: and in the pardon of sin, in which iniquity is forgiven, and yet vengeance is taken on men's inventions; it is an act of mercy, and yet of justice; it is by price, and yet of free grace; and the like may be observed of all other doctrines of the Gospel. And it may be called "manifold", because of its various doctrines and promises and because of the various instances of wisdom in them, and the various persons to whom it is made known, and the various times in which it is displayed: and now under the Gospel this is more clearly known, or made known to the angels by the church of God, through the ministry of the word in it, on which angels attend, being desirous to look more diligently into the mysteries of it; and by the displays of the wisdom and grace of God unto his church and people. I hope this helps. God bless stj |

584 | Imortant Question Of Life Situation | Eph 4:5 | stjohn | 189864
hello ddethdan, Welcome. There are many different doctrines of faith. One of the problems with that is, differences of opinion, and that sometimes causes division, division is bad. If I were you my new Christian friend, I would find a none denominational Bible teaching, Christ centered Church. Eph 4:2-6 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of Peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. No mater what you chose, may God the Holy Spirit lead you in all things. Please, read your Bible! God Bless. John |

Michael, It's important not to read more into the Scriptures then they say, Michael, we can miss what God is really saying to us. Read the chapter and find the massage, not look for the fantastic. Here is a quote from, Commentary by A. R. FAUSSET "However, all we surely know is, that His soul at death descended to Hades, that is, underwent the ordinary condition of departed spirits of men." 587 | philippians 3 | Philippians | stjohn | 183815
Hi pj; First of all I don't think paul was reminding them to rejoice in the Lord, it's more like a salutation or proclamation like praise the Lord! What he was reminding them of was what He had told them before about the gospel of Christ. apparently Paul had written or spoken to them before about circumcision. repetition is a safeguard against false teaching. His concern then was about the men that where trying to tell them that they needed to be circumcised. (mutilators of the flesh.) notice He called them dogs, Jesus gave His most scathing rebuke to religious men like them. Paul was sort of telling them to stand on the word. True believers worship Christ in spirt and with faith in Him as there saviour not in trusting works of the flesh or human effort.
588 | Is anxietyand fear sinful? | Philippians | stjohn | 193319
Dear Tim, Hello, first I'd like to say that I agree with everything that Doc has told you and most of the other advice that has ben given, I hope that it has helped you in your quest to help your friend. I'd like to add this note however. The chemical imbalances, that are found in the brains of those that are clinically depressed, abnormally fearful, bipolar, schizophrenic, etc. may be a symptom of their condition, that is, it is not known whether it is the cause, or just a symptom. In other words, (I believe) that it is possible, if not probable, that these imbalances may accrue after the person succumbs to these abnormal feelings. the bottom line, trust God and His word. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things." Philippians God bless John |

590 | Does Jesus have two natures now? | Phil 2:6 | stjohn | 186395
Hello abeck, There is danger in trying to understand the trinity with our worldly intellect. This is something for spiritual discernment. We must pray for that kind of understanding. Ask seek and knock and the door will be opened. This is something that you will have to take on faith, but faith comes by the word of God. And the word of God is NOT found in the watchtower! It is found in the Bible, and ONLY the Bible. I would encourage you to read it. Worldly understanding can take you off a cliff! We born again Christians call all other religions cults. Jesud said: John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jesus, still has His Glorified Body, But He is ALL God. Gos bless. John |

596 | Just needing a little more insight | Col 2:18 | stjohn | 205231
Hi Sandy: The only ministering spirit that we as Christians have need of is, The Holy Spirit. Anyone that tells you they see or hear from Angels is a fraud! This verse is telling us that those that do that are puffed up with vain pride and do not know the word of God. Angels are not needed today at all for teaching God's children, they are messengers of God of course, but today, we, as Children of God, have the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God, to lead and teach us. Anyone who tells you otherwise, is teaching a false gospel, and leading any who will listen astray. Please do not hesitate to ask more questions if you need to. God bless you in your study of His Holy Word. I hope this helps you God bless John |

597 | Do you have any scriptures? | 2 Thess 2:3 | stjohn | 187984
Hi M.Royal I hope you don't mind my asking, but where does it say that the rapture/catching away, has to be the same event, as Christ's coming in judgment? That seems to be a supposition. And I'm kinda wondering if you are going to answer Marks question, you kinda left it laying there? I thought the ball was in your cort. so to speak. I was really trying to follow this discussion but it is getting a little confusing when someone asks for scripture to lend authority to the asking of a question, that he was using scripture to ask! That doesn't really follow a logical line of reasoning. Would you please clear things up for me? Thanks. God bless. John |

598 | 1 tim 2:15 women saved childbearing | 1 Timothy | stjohn | 211551
Hi Dr. Joshua: Welcome to the forum! Here's some commentary on that from John Gill, which I believe says it fairly well. I pray it helps. John --"Ver. 15. Notwithstanding she shall be saved,.... Not Eve, though no doubt she is saved; since she had a sense of her sin, and shame for it, a revelation of the Messiah to her, and faith in him; see Ge 3:7. But rather any woman, particularly such as profess godliness, who shall be saved 'in childbearing;' which is to be understood not of a temporal salvation, or being saved through childbearing, through the perilous time, and be delivered out of it; for though this is generally the case, yet not always, nor always the case of good women. Rachel died in childbed:" " But spiritual and eternal salvation is here meant; not that bearing children is the cause, condition, or means of salvation; for as this is not God's way of salvation, so it confines the salvation of women to childbearing ones; and which must give an uneasy reflection to maidens, and women that never bore any; but rather the meaning is, that good women shall be saved, notwithstanding their bearing and bringing forth children in pain and sorrow, according to the original curse, in Ge 3:16. And so the words administer some comfort to women, in their present situation of subjection and sorrow; though they may be rendered impersonally thus, "notwithstanding there is salvation through the birth of a son": and the sense is, that notwithstanding the fall of man by the means of the woman, yet there is salvation for both men and women, through the birth of Immanuel, the child born, and Son given; at whose birth, the angels sung peace on earth, good will to men; through the true Messiah, the deed of the woman, through the incarnate Saviour, who was made of a woman, there is salvation for lost sinners: He was born of a woman, and came into the world in order to obtain salvation for them; and He has effected it, and it is in Him, for all such who apply to Him for it; and with it all true believers, men and women, shall be saved through Him, v15 "if they continue in faith and charity, and holiness, with sobriety." -- John Gill http://www.freegrace.net/gill/ |

599 | appointment of pastors in the church | 1 Tim 3:11 | stjohn | 209798
Hi dbondz: Welcome to the forum! 1 Tim 3:1-7 gives the guidelines for overseers, or what we would call today, pastors. Then v8-13 goes on to describe the qualifications for deacons and, In regard to woman v11 does not describe exactly what office a women may serve in (see Phill 1:1) but simply stats she must be, “dignified, not a malicious gossip, but temperate and faithful in all things”. Though she does fall in the text of describing deacons. Note, that Romans 16:1 speaks of, “our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church” Acts 6:2 also show’s us that pastors should devote their time to the study of god’s word, to better instruct others. This is where women, elders, deacons, sunday-school-teachers and the like, can really help a pastor better preform his duties. I hope this helped you. God bless John |
