481 | Why don't we address God as Yahweh? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 112282
I have to agree with EdB and would add some of Shakespere's wisdom. "A rose by any other name is still a rose." I would like to think we can call God almost any name in any of the thousands of languages or variants on this planet. As long as we do so with proper reverance and respect, I'm certain He will treat us the same. God bless. |

482 | Is Jesus the Almighty? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112281
I'm hoping that this won't jeopardize your relationship with God, assuming you've followed His plan of salvation and are a christian but I must admit the scripture you're citing from Colossians doesn't negate all the ones that clearly teach the oneness of the Godhead. Would you care to elaborate on this unusual belief with more scriptures or maybe even common sense? However, please be logical and God bless. |

Thanks...that was most interesting and enlightening. You're quite the student in trivia.
484 | Ressurection today?? | 1 Thess 4:16 | Rowdy | 112257
Paul was very clear on this subject. He put tremendous emphasis on this point in his letter to the Corinthians: 1 Cor 15:12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. 20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. 29Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? 31I die every day--I mean that, brothers--just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." 33Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." 34Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame. If resurrection of the dead is not possible then we are all in a pitiful condition and without hope. I don't know about you but as "for me and my house," I'm counting on it. God bless. |

485 | Is Jesus the Almighty? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112256
Brodacious is borrowed from my good friend in the comics, Snuffy Smith. I'm sure you're too young to remember. As I mention before, still looking forward to knowing more about your background. How did you come to such an interesting position on this Trinity issue. I agree with you. The word "Trinity" is NOT in the Bible but the concept clearly is, in many different places. But again I have an idea you've already seen these passages. Still...God bless. I hope to see you in Heaven.
486 | scriptures for wholehearted service | Gen 3:3 | Rowdy | 112255
I think our Lord sums it pretty well as follows: Matt 22:34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." I might mention this account is reiterated in Mark 12 and again in Luke 10. It seems our Lord's words are very clear; I can't think of too much more to say. Do you have a response to them? God bless. |

Sorry, I just gotta ask: Are you hiding something? You say some brodacious stuff on the Forum and then give us only the tidbit of information. Tsk.Tsk
488 | Is Jesus the Almighty? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112241
I don't know how to respond to your statement other than quote scripture which apparently you know already. So I'll watch for a few days and see what others post to the Forum. I'm going to try to be a little more low profile and see what develops. I'll pray for you and God bless. PS: I must say this: God is the same now, as He's always been and always will be. In my opinion that applies to ALL the Godhead. I think there are a multitude of scriptures in His Word, making this very clear. I agree with you, it's not clear exactly HOW this is true but I just know it is. We don't find out that good stuff till we get on the other side of Judgment Day. |

489 | Is Jesus the Almighty? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112232
Mr. FinalSQL, I noticed you've posted 63 items onto this Forum and still haven't given us your profile. Now with this most unusual position about the Trinity, don't you think it would be a good time to reveal your background to us? Looking forward to knowing you a little better, God bless you in your participation on the Forum.
490 | Is Jesus the Almighty? | John 3:16 | Rowdy | 112231
Then, how do you explained what happened in the following: Luke 3:21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." This story is reiterated in Mark 1. How can you possibly paint this story any other way different from 3 different beings interacting at the same time? This I gotta see. God bless. |

I appreciate the support. I too enjoy the high calibre of most of the posts on this Forum. It motivates me to study God's Word more intently but I also see a lot of growth on the part others. I just glad to be part of the family.
492 | tortoise, How does Rom 8:1 relate to OT | Rom 8:1 | Rowdy | 112222
I can see that you've put some study into this topic but I'm afraid I still stand firmly committed to the truth plainly revealed by Peter and John. I'm not exactly certain how you derive your conclusion from the scriptures above...it seems a little convoluted. But I think a passage from James 2 is much more clear as follows: 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your[4] works, and I will show you my faith by my[5] works. 19You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[6] 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."[7] And he was called the friend of God. 24You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Please don't draw the wrong conclusion...I AM NOT saying we can work or earn our way to Heaven. Quite the opposite, but our Lord will be looking for proof that we really are in His family and not just saying "Lord, Lord." We all know from Jesus' own words that alone won't get you anywhere but if we truly love God and His Son, we MUST obey Him and we MUST SHOW that obedience. So you see, the overall net result of the words from Christ, Peter, James and John is that we MUST become part of God's family. We MUST live a faithful life of a christian, repenting of our sins at least daily and we MUST act like we're following Christ's example AND the examples of His official representatives, as described in God's Word. God bless. |

493 | Where does it say "MUST be baptised" | John 3:5 | Rowdy | 112147
Since it's been a full week since I issued the challenge as cited above, I thought I would balance the scale a little more in contrast to the big question about "must be baptized." I remembered this little tidbit of a good questtion from a previous discussion of this topic long before I my membership on this Forum. Here is the question: Where in the Bible is there any semblance of an example or any verse whatsoever that suggests salvation is available from our Father after a show of faith ONLY? Notice the word ONLY. That means to the exclusion of any other act of obedience or anything else at all. And believe me, I don't mean to ask this question in a mean-spirited manner. I just want to do everythiing in my power to help you all see God's Word clearly. Remember if we love Jesus, we must obey ALL His words as they will be the standard by which we're judged. God bless you all. PS: I almost forgot. I can't hardly believe I did this but I left out an important step of God's plan of salvation and that was: Confession of Jesus as being the Son of God. This step should have appeared between repentance and baptism. I apologize for the oversight. Hopefully, you all may have noticed it. |

494 | why lead us to stumble? | Gen 3:3 | Rowdy | 112141
I'm afraid I have to agree with you. That's the trouble. I'm terribly fearful that my boys and their children won't be able to live in the wonderful christian nation that our fore fathers did. Yes, it would be wonderful to think that maybe America might turn back from the awfully sinful path we have recently begun, like that of Ninevah but I do think it would take a very powerful "significant emotional event" and that will probably costs us a very high price in lives and a rather humbled life for those who survive. God bless you my friend. I do enjoy reading your posts and consider you a very learned Bible student. |

495 | The Exodus's importance to Hebrews? | Exodus | Rowdy | 112138
In many, many different ways, the OT provides numerous examples as "foreshadows" of the Lord's church. With this example, the Lord is casting Moses as a foreshadow of His Son. Jesus rescues us, God's children from sin just as Moses did for the Israelite nation. Moses had his trials and weaknesses but he is considered a mighty tower of faith to most, just like our Lord and Savior. Jesus performed miracles and was completely consumed with compassion, much like his predecessor in Moses. Moses even tangled with God and literally saved the Israelite nation from God's wrath with his "negotiations." In the same way, Jesus negotiates a plan of redemption with the devil, taking our place on the cross for our sins so we don't have to. Yes, there's many other wonderful examples or foreshadows from which we can learn from God's Old Testament. Excellent question and God bless. |

496 | Scripture regarding women | Titus 2:4 | Rowdy | 111831
Amen, Searcher. This is further endorsed by the old saying: There's no other hand more powerful than the one rocking the cradle. History has proved this to be so true. God bless.
497 | Here is where I'm puzzled | Luke 8:15 | Rowdy | 111830
It might be instructive to insert at this moment the following quote from Apostle Paul: Rom 9:14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."[6] 16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."[7] 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[8] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory-- 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? This guidance from God's Word seems to go counter to the age-old position of His desire "that all men repent." The only conclusion I can come up with (and has been taught to me) is that God helps those who deceive themselves into their own world of self-deception. In other words, every time one lies to his conscience, it gets easier and easier because eventually our conscience gets burned out. Again, let me repeat one of God's main themes in His Word is the complete freedom of choice He gives in choosing to follow Him or His archfiend, the devil. If we choose the latter over and over again and again, knowing or at least suspecting everything is not quite right, God will help us get comfortable with that "not quite right." But if we earnestly and sincerely ask for God's guidance concerning His Word, then I believe He will re-activate our conscience and hopefully we should discover the true message behind that portion of scripture. Any response? God bless. |

498 | Scripture regarding women | Titus 2:4 | Rowdy | 111799
I think we can infer a lot from Paul's letter: 2 Tim 1:5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. Paul recognized the tremendous power mothers have over their children. Then there's the example of Hanna and her son Samuel. Another is Ruth and Naomi. God bless. |

499 | NT First Born? | Ex 13:12 | Rowdy | 111773
The most important parallel I can draw from the Passover to this dispensation, is that of the blood painted over the door posts. If we don't have contact with Jesus' blood as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, then we should fear for the jeporady of our souls. I think the fact that God took the first born of the whole Egyptian nation was His last and final demonstration of just how serious God is about His demand for our obedience. God gave every chance He could for Pharoah and all the Egyptians to repent and turn away from their gods, but their hearts were too hard. Say, I never did hear from you in response to the E-Mail I sent you. God bless. |

500 | r u released from marriage if mistreated | 1 Cor 7:12 | Rowdy | 111647
I must respond by saying I'd be the last person in the world to advocate a woman staying in a situation as described above and take any kind of physical or sexual abuse or to tolerate the same for her children. However, a separation of a husband and his wife should not be done quite as easily as some people do. I would urge that all reading this exchange study God's Word and exhaust all options, do everything in your power to maintain the bond of marriage as blessed by God. Remember mankind should never consider such a union of marriage to be fairly easy to break up. AND in the final analysis, again the innocent party (here the wife) CANNOT consider marriage to another man UNLESS her first husband broke that bond of marriage by committing adultery. I don't see how there could be any other way to interpret God's Wor on this matter but I'd be interested in your responses. God bless. |
