481 | Bootstrap Salvation? | Eph 2:8 | jlpangilinan | 63872
Hank, To those who claim that works is the ingredient for salvation, they usually back up thier claim with scriptures, some of those is this: Ec 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Re 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. One of the statement of Paul the same apostle that taught the we have save by faith alone: 1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. Here they get the idea that even how deep is your faith as mentioned even you can removed mountain and have not charity, then we still nothing. Id like to get your comments on those verses. 482 | Is the Law abolished or not? | Eph 2:15 | jlpangilinan | 57839
Christ come not to abolished it. Yes that is right but Christ fulfill it with a deep meaning, He fulfill it not the same way of what the old testament people does. For example, in the law of moses, it is punisheable by death if you do works on sabbath, Christ do works on sabbath day, such us healing and other great works: Mt 12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Mr 2:23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. If we say that Christ is breaking the by doing those things mentions, did He imprudent and contradict His statement in Matt. 5:17 Jesus Christ gave us the two commandments to love God with all thy heart, soul, strenght and love our nieghboors as thyself! if we observe this two commandments there is no single teaching of law we are going to disobey. Christ Himself make an example to us how to observe the commandments, He want us to follow His example. If we remember when the scribes take a woman accused of adultery, adultery is punisheable by death under the law of moses but Christ did not allow them to kill the woman by stone. Joh 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Thou shall not kill indeed is in the law! So if we follow the example of Christ of observing the commandments we are not abolishing the law but fulfilling it with a deep meaning. God bless, Johnny |

483 | type of wood the cross is made of | Eph 2:16 | jlpangilinan | 31498
I think it is not mention in the bible of what kind of wood used for the cross of Jesus Christ. (if somebody can give you its good) Easton Bible Dictionary Entry on Cross in the New Testament the instrument of crucifixion, and hence used for the crucifixion of Christ itself (Eph 2:16; Heb 12:2; 1Co 1:17-18; Ga 5:11; 6:12,14; Php 3:18). The word is also used to denote any severe affliction or trial (Mt 10:38; 16:24; Mr 8:34; 10:21). The forms in which the cross is represented are these: Crucifixion a common mode of punishment among heathen nations in early times. It is not certain whether it was known among the ancient Jews; probably it was not. The modes of capital punishment according to the Mosaic law were, by the sword (Ex 21:1-36), strangling, fire (Le 20:1-27), and stoning (De 21:1-23). This was regarded as the most horrible form of death, and to a Jew it would acquire greater horror from the curse in De 21:23. This punishment began by subjecting the sufferer to scourging. In the case of our Lord, however, his scourging was rather before the sentence was passed upon him, and was inflicted by Pilate for the purpose, probably, of exciting pity and procuring his escape from further punishment (Lu 23:22; Joh 19:1). The condemned one carried his own cross to the place of execution, which was outside the city, in some conspicuous place set apart for the purpose. Before the nailing to the cross took place, a medicated cup of vinegar mixed with gall and myrrh (the sopor) was given, for the purpose of deadening the pangs of the sufferer. Our Lord refused this cup, that his senses might be clear (Mt 27:34). The spongeful of vinegar, sour wine, posca, the common drink of the Roman soldiers, which was put on a hyssop stalk and offered to our Lord in contemptuous pity (Mt 27:48; Lu 23:36), he tasted to allay the agonies of his thirst (Joh 19:29). The accounts given of the crucifixion of our Lord are in entire agreement with the customs and practices of the Roman in such cases. He was crucified between two "malefactors" (Isa 53:12; Lu 23:32), and was watched by a party of four soldiers (Joh 19:23; Mt 27:36,54), with their centurion. The "breaking of the legs" of the malefactors was intended to hasten death, and put them out of misery (Joh 19:31); but the unusual rapidity of our Lord's death (Joh 19:33) was due to his previous sufferings and his great mental anguish. The omission of the breaking of his legs was the fulfilment of a type (Ex 12:46). He literally died of a broken heart, a ruptured heart, and hence the flowing of blood and water from the wound made by the soldier's spear (Joh 19:34). Our Lord uttered seven memorable words from the cross, namely, (1) Lu 23:34; (2) Lu 23:43; (3) Joh 19:26; (4) Mt 27:46; Mr 15:34; (5) Joh 19:28; (6) Joh 19:30; (7) Lu 23:46. 1. The crux simplex (I), a "single piece without transom." 2. The crux decussata (X), or St. Andrew's cross. 3. The crux commissa (T), or St. Anthony's cross. 4. The crux immissa (t), or Latin cross, which was the kind of cross on which our Saviour died. Above our Lord's head, on the projecting beam, was placed the "title." (See Crucifixion.) After the conversion, so-called, of Constantine the Great (B.C. 313), the cross first came into use as an emblem of Christianity. He pretended at a critical moment that he saw a flaming cross in the heavens bearing the inscription, "In hoc signo vinces", i.e., By this sign thou shalt conquer, and that on the following night Christ himself appeared and ordered him to take for his standard the sign of this cross. In this form a new standard, called the Labarum, was accordingly made, and borne by the Roman armies. It remained the standard of the Roman army till the downfall of the Western empire. It bore the embroidered monogram of Christ, i.e., the first two Greek letters of his name, X and P (chi and rho), with the Alpha and Omega. (See .) |

484 | how can i help him/ | Eph 5:18 | jlpangilinan | 56325
No! that verses is talking about celebration but not to be ungodly liesure: De 14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, in the very end of that verse it was mentioned that "shall eat there before the lord" and lord did not tolerate ungodly liesure! It not mentioned there that even ungodly liesure! In the new testament apostle taught us not be drunkerness: Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Drunkeness is manifested of the flesh: Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Ga 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Ga 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. We can drink wine, bt not to be drunk of wine. Wine (red wine is good for highblood pressure)you can drink wine but it depend upon your motive to drink it. Apostle paul told timothy to drink wine instead of water because of timoty's stomach condition: 1Ti 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. So you can drink wine, but not to be drunk of wine. God bless, Johnny |

485 | does adult child still listen to parents | Eph 6:1 | jlpangilinan | 118314
We have to obey our parents if they teach us the right things according to the commandments of God. It is not limited with how old we are, when our parents taught us the right things we m ust obey it is the commandments of God. Eph 6:1 ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Eph 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) Eph 6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Parents also reminded to taught us the right things unto the Lord. Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Col 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. If our parents lead us to disobey God! we have the right to do what is right. For example there are parents taught thier children to steal. These parents are not parents in the Lord. We dont have to obey them. Christ taught us regarding this: Lu 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Christ said if we want to be His desciples we are ready to hate our family if they are the reason we cannot follow Christ. God bless, |

Mt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1Co 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 487 | stricter accountability required by some | Phil 1:13 | jlpangilinan | 23856
If I read you correctly Paul is a very example of person that called by God for special tasks. I put here maybe one fourth of his Evangelical Journey Paul As he waited at Troas for indications of the will of God as to his future movements, he saw, in the vision of the night, a man from the opposite shores of Macedonia standing before him, and heard him cry, "Come over, and help us" (Ac 16:9). Paul recognized in this vision a message from the Lord, In Macedonia, churches were planted in Philippi, Thessalonica, and Berea. Leaving this province, Achaia, Athens, but quitted it after, probably, a brief sojourn (Ac 17:17-31). He passed over to Corinth, Thessalonica, his earliest apostolic letters, and then sailed for Syria. third missionary tour. He journeyed by land in the "upper coasts" (the more eastern parts) of Asia Minor, Ephesus, where he tarried for no less than three years, engaged in Christian labour. First Epistle to the Corinthians The silversmiths, whose traffic in the little images which they made was in danger organized a riot against Paul, and he left the city, and proceeded to Troas (2Co 2:12), he went to meet Titus in Macedonia. Having spent Macedonia, visiting the churches there, specially the churches of Philippi, Thessalonica, and Berea, probably penetrating into the interior, to the shores of the Adriatic (Ro 15:19), he then came into Greece, where he abode three month, spending probably the greater part of this time in Corinth (Ac 20:2). he wrote his Epistle to the Galatians, and also the great Epistle to the Romans. At the end of the three months he left Achaia for Macedonia, thence crossed into Asia Minor, and touching at Miletus, there addressed the Ephesian presbyters, whom he had sent for to meet him (Ac 20:17), and then sailed for Tyre, finally reaching Jerusalem, probably in the spring of A.D. 58. He was almost murdered by a Jewish mob in the temple. (See Temple, Herod's.) Rescued from their violence by the Roman commandant, he was conveyed as a prisoner to Caesarea, where, from various causes, he was detained a prisoner for two years in Herod's praetorium (Ac 23:35). "Paul was not kept in close confinement; he had at least the range of the barracks in which he was detained. for him, or perhaps encountering dangers in which they sorely needed his presence. It was a mysterious providence which thus arrested his energies and condemned the ardent worker to inactivity; yet we can now see the reason for it. But judging it right at this crisis to claim the privilege of a Roman citizen, he appealed to the emperor (Ac 25:11). Such an appeal could not be disregarded, and Paul was at once sent on to Rome under the charge of one Julius, a centurion of the "Augustan cohort." After a long and perilous voyage, he at length reached the imperial city in the early spring, probably, of A.D. 61. Here he was permitted to occupy his own hired house, under constant military custody. This privilege was accorded to him, no doubt, because he was a Roman citizen, and as such could not be put into prison without a trial. The soldiers who kept guard over Paul were of course changed at frequent intervals, and thus he had the opportunity of preaching the gospel to many of them during these "two whole years," and with the blessed result of spreading among the imperial guards, and even in Caesar's household, an interest in the truth (Php 1:13). His rooms were resorted to by many anxious inquirers, both Jews and Gentiles (Ac 28:23,30-31), and thus his imprisonment "turned rather to the furtherance of the gospel," and his "hired house" became the centre of a gracious influence which spread over the whole city. During this period the apostle wrote his epistles to the Colossians, Ephesians, Philippians, and to Philemon, and probably also to the Hebrews. This first imprisonment came at length to a close, Once more he set out on his missionary labours, probably visiting western and eastern Europe and Asia Minor. During this period of freedom he wrote his First Epistle to Timothy and his Epistle to Titus. The year of his release was signalized by the burning of Rome, which Nero saw fit to attribute to the Christians. A fierce persecution now broke out against the Christians. During this imprisonment he probably wrote the Second Epistle to Timothy, the last he ever wrote. The trial ended: Paul was condemned, and delivered over to the executioner. He was led out of the city, with a crowd of the lowest rabble at his heels. The fatal spot was reached; he knelt beside the block; the headsman's axe gleamed in the sun and fell; and the head of the apostle of the world rolled down in the dust" (probably A.D. 66), four years before the fall of Jerusalem. |

If I understand you correctly you are looking for the reference in the bible the participation of Christ in creation. Ge 1:26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. and God said let us create man in our image and likeness" Christ is present there in that creation. God created all things thrugh Christ all things made possible through Him. Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: I hope it would helps God bless, Johnny |

491 | another question about worshipw/o belief | Col 2:9 | jlpangilinan | 125131
Quote "But can you worship Him? Can you respect, and honor someone you don't believe or have faith in? I don't believe you can, but I am looking for scripture and an easy way to explain this to a group of children tonight at church. I guess this is what Jesus meant in John 4:24 when he said "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." end of quote. I think you are contradictiing yourself here. How can you worship the "someone you dont believe" if you dont believed on someone, how can you worship that "someone" which is for you is not existing? for example you dont believed in God, meaning you dont believed that He is existed. Now how can you worship someone you dont believed? If you worship Him you must worship Him in "Truth" meaning you believed on Him Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 1Co 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. |

492 | was luke jewish | Col 4:10 | jlpangilinan | 116291
In addition to EdB answers, here the Easton Entry about Luke the evangelist, was a Gentile. The date and circumstances of his conversion are unknown. According to his own statement (Lu 1:2), he was not an "eye-witness and minister of the word from the beginning." It is probable that he was a physician in Troas, and was there converted by Paul, to whom he attached himself. He accompanied him to Philippi, but did not there share his imprisonment, nor did he accompany him further after his release in his missionary journey at this time (Ac 17:1). On Paul's third visit to Philippi (Ac 20:5-6) we again meet with Luke, who probably had spent all the intervening time in that city, a period of seven or eight years. From this time Luke was Paul's constant companion during his journey to Jerusalem (Ac 20:6-21:18). He again disappears from view during Paul's imprisonment at Jerusalem and Caesarea, and only reappears when Paul sets out for Rome (Ac 27:1), whither he accompanies him (Ac 28:2,12-16), and where he remains with him till the close of his first imprisonment (Phm 1:24; Col 4:14). The last notice of the "beloved physician" is in 2Ti 4:11. There are many passages in Paul's epistles, as well as in the writings of Luke, which show the extent and accuracy of his medical knowledge. God bless, |

493 | Rapture question? | 1 Thess 4:17 | jlpangilinan | 23407
Looking for truth, I saw many answers of your questions. Let me try answers it in my on views. Its in the hand of God. Who knows if all of you in the airplane will all go to heaven. If your question is will God allows others to die? my answer is YES! if they are not prepared for the coming of Christ, meaning if they are people do not believed in Christ, God will allows the death for them. Let me give you and example. In the time of Noah, Ge 6:6 ¶ And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Ge 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. e 6:8 ¶ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Ge 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. God destroy all the people except for those who walked with Him. So if other people in the plane you said is not walked with God we know that God will allows that death will happened to them. Be always reminded that God is powerful. He can allows things to happen if He want, but God also can fly that plane without any pilot if He want to. You can reply on this note if it is valid for you. We try to explain something if you want to. I hope it helps. God bless, Johnny |

We should always be reminded that not all of our posting is acceptable to everyone, there are some maybe same as we have in mind but there are others also that will criticize us. I learned many things in this forum, we learned from each other. I learned from Hank that if there some topics that we cannot agree on just drop the issue, it could start some irritations from both sides! God bless, Johnny |

496 | Are women allowed to teach/preach? | 1 Tim 2:12 | jlpangilinan | 15003
First the verse that you mentioned is 1 Timothy 2:12-13 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. The way I understand it that woman is not allowed to be the HEAD OF THE CHURCH but they can teach and the same time they can preach. Please read this verse I quoted: Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. IN THE VERSE 20 JESUS MENTIONED THAT "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" WHAT IS IT THAT WE ARE GOING TO OBSERVE "ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU" AND IM SURE TEACHING IS INCLUDING TO "ALL WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED TO YOU" because Jesus Christ commanded His disciple to "teach" and when He "stated all nations" its include men and women. I hope you find my explaination helful Johnny |

497 | CAN WOMEN BE CHURCH LEADERS?? | 1 Tim 2:12 | jlpangilinan | 36239
This is what scriptures says about that: 1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 1Ti 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. God bless, Johnny |

498 | Women pastor | 1 Tim 3:1 | jlpangilinan | 22609
Let the bible answer to your question. The apostles gave us guidelines, If we desire the office of the bishops (pastors or ministers and its equivalent)Here it is very clear that it is applicable for a Man and not for Woman. 1Ti 3:1 ¶ This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; They also put some guidelines for woman of what they are going to do. 1Co 14:34 ¶ Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 34. 1Co 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Last resort if there is no available Men pastors. They have to cover thier hair. 1Co 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. But they can apostolate, maybe outside the church, they can conduct a bible study. Because the teaching of Jesus Christ goes: Mt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:1 Mt 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Jesus said "teach them all things I have commanded you" If we look at what is all things that commanded of Jesus Christ to us is included "teaching" so everyone has required to teach not just to listen but to teach. And when Jesus Christ mention "all nations" for all we know it is included "men and women" I hope it will help. God bless, Johnny |

500 | fall upward? | 1 Tim 4:1 | jlpangilinan | 33327
I am agree with you, there are tendency of falling that is why Desciples reminding us to be watchful and vigilant!: 1Pe 5:8 ¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Apostle paul also said: 1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. If we are very confident that we are save, and not thinking that there are tendency of falling it is dangerous. I do believed that Jesus Christ said no one can snatch His flocks from His hands: Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Joh 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. But we have to know the definition of Christ of whom are considered belong to His flock. And Christ define that those will be save are those who stay forever in Him: Mt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. So it is hard to define who are save or not. Who are those belongs to the flock of Christ or not. Who will justify that we are save you, me, others. Jesus mention that Mt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. So it is God can define whose belong to his flock! If we stay with him forever, we consider save. God bless, Johnny |
