441 | Why does it say "since", not "if"? | Matt 4:6 | retxar | 15115
I did a quick search on Strongs #1487 (Greek ei i) and found 292 occurances. Not even once did I see the translation "since". Do you know of a verse where "ei i" is translated "since"? To me, it just doesn't make good "sense" to make "if" "since" here. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

443 | Are women allowed to teach/preach? | 1 Tim 2:14 | retxar | 15009
I think the scripture you are talking about is 1Co_14:34-35. This is in ref to the preceding verses concerning the judgement of prophesy, not a gag order on women. 1Co_14:29 says "Let 2 or 3 prophets speak, and let the others judge." This again, is speaking of restricting women from a position of authority in the church. 1Co chapter 11 proves women are allowed to speak/teach/pray in church as long as it is under the male leadership. 444 | Are women allowed to teach/preach? | 1 Tim 2:14 | retxar | 15000
I think you mean 1Tim chapter 2 not chapter 1 The emphasis here is not speaking and teaching, but spiritual authority in the church. The teaching by women in church must always be under male leadership and authority as God ordained male leadership and authority from the beginning. This scripture does not put a gag on women in church. Silent here could also be translated peaceable as in 1Ti_2:2. Because women in church must be under male leadership, they would be restricted from teaching doctrine and correction but would be allowed to teach exhortation. God made men and women different, so this is a good thing! This is explained further if we understand the meaning of 1Ti_2:14. It says Eve sinned because she was deceived and that Adam was not deceived. He was not deceived because he knew what he was doing! He sinned with full knowledge of the consequences. Because of Adam's sin, not Eve's, judgement came to all mankind (Rom_5:18), even tho Eve sinned 1st. God confronted Adam in the garden, not Eve (Gen_3:11), because God held Adam responsible. Therefore, men are the ones that God holds responsible for church leadership, not women. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

445 | What is meant to be baptized by fire? | 1 Pet 1:7 | retxar | 14998
The baptism with fire here, comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is not a separate baptism. Just as water is symbolic of the washing away of out sins, fire is symbolic of the purification of the Holy Spirit. The "fire" part of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the working of the Holy Spirit to purify the Spirit filled believer. When gold is melted in a furnace all the impurities come to the top and the impurities are skimmed off. What remains is more pure gold . 1Pe_1:7 in the NLT says "These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world." 447 | keep committing the same sin over and ov | Is 53:1 | retxar | 14609
1st John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is faithful to forgive our sin, as you are aware, but don’t leave out the 2nd part of this verse. Pray for God to not only to forgive you, but also to cleanse you. Read and study diligently the last part of Romans 7 and see how Paul went thru the same struggles as you (and me). Read and study diligently the 1st part of Romans 8 to understand how, in the flesh, we are slaves to sin and have no power to overcome. However, we have victory thru Jesus if we walk by the Spirit and not the flesh. Set you mind on the things of the Spirit not on the things of the flesh (Romans 8:5). In order to overcome sin, we must do more than try to resist temptation, we must also submit and draw close to God (James 4:7-8). Read and study diligently James 4. Memorize James 4:8. Stand on it! We will not practice sin when we are close to God. We sin when we pull away, and lean toward our own understanding. We get close to God in 3 ways; thru the Word, thru prayer, and thru fellowship. Be an active member at your local fellowship. Be accountable to the spiritual authority there. Share your struggles with him. In Luke 11:24-26 Jesus spoke of a man being delivered from an unclean spirit (sin in your case, NOT a demon). The man did not replace the evil with good and he wound up in worse shape than before. You must replace the evil with good in order to overcome. Give this thing to God in weakness not strength. Don’t have a I’ll do better, I’ll try harder, I’m strong, attitude (from you post, you don’t). Avoid situations that would allow you to be tempted. Ask God for the gift of faith (1Co 12:9). When we overcome sin it is always a work of the Holy Spirit. Any work of the Spirit can only be accomplished thru supernatural faith that only God can give us (Heb 12:2a). Ask God to give you that gift of faith you need to believe His Word that you will overcome! In Christ Jesus, retxar |

448 | Divine Healing, True or False? | Matthew | retxar | 14544
I’m sorry, when I give a Christmas present, I don't you expect to receive something in return. I have given Christmas presents before and later the person got me something because they felt obligated or something. I hated that! The Word says greater is he who blesses than he who is blessed. Guess what? The Word is true! I felt a whole lot better being a blessing than being blessed! Let God be true and every man a liar. If God rewards me it will be out of His love for me, not by me doing the “right” thing and somehow He being obligated to me. The Word says God desire obedience, not sacrifice. I work each and every day. I get paid once a week. If my employer came up to me and said, “I’m sorry, we can’t pay you anymore”. I would say, “I’m sorry, I can’t work here anymore”. If my dad called me up and asked for my help, I would be there in a flash. Because I love him, I would go without expecting anything in return. However, he might reward me greatly, because he loves me , but it does not matter to me either way. If I started expecting something each time I helped him out, he would start calling someone else, not me. He will continue to let me help him, if I continue doing it out of love. If he rewards me, it will be out of love, not obligation. My employer rewards me out of obligation not love. If we treat God like our employer, we will only serve Him if He continues to “pay” us what we think we are worth. If we serve God like a Father, we serve Him out of love not obligation. We are living according to the Spirit and we don’t have our minds set on the things of the flesh (Romans 8:5). If we start treating God like our employer instead of our Father, don’t think He will continue to use us to our fullest potential. God does bless His children in ways above and beyond what we could ever expect or imagine (Eph. 3:20), but it will be according to His will and love, not our formulas. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

451 | Lifting up of hands? | Ps 63:4 | retxar | 14342
Is the position of the body what God looks at when we worship Him? Does God dis-qualify our prayers if we don't close our eyes? Does God turn away if we pray and are not in a kneeling position? If we only lift one hand and not holy hands is our praise rejected? If one is physically handicapped are they just out of luck and can neither praise or worship? Will those who worship the anti-christ be able to get off the hook on a technicality? I don't think so.

453 | Answer the Question | OT general | retxar | 14271
First, let me say, Jesus has only one church (Eph 3:21), but man has many denominations. I have already answered the definition of salvation with Eph 2:8-9 from the Word. To satisfy your request, below is a quote from my fellowship’s statement of faith. I belong to a Calvary Chapel fellowship that is not a denominational church, as such, but rather a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Chuck Smith). “We believe that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord.” God bless you in your study. |

Forgive me for being a jokester. I did not mean to offend. You know what is really sad? We would rather know how man defines salvation rather than God. For by grace are ye saved thru faith, not of yourself, it is the gift of God, not of works, least any man should boast. As far as leading someone down the wrong path if they are looking for Jesus; I think the 1st step down that wrong path would be presenting Him according to what our denomination tells us to say, instead of the WORD. 455 | who did cain marry? | Gen 1:1 | retxar | 14218
It has come time to put this matter to rest. The WORD is clear, let's read it for together folks. Gen 4:17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son; Enoch. Gen 4:18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech. Gen 4:19 Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. Gen 4:20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. Gen 4:21 His brother's name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. Therefore, Cain married the flute and harp player's cousin's father's mother's husband's father's mother. Why have we never seen this before? God bless bro, retxar |

I think what your Muslim "friend" is trying to push is the GOSPEL of Barnabas, rather than the EPISTLE of Barnabas. The Gospel of Barnabas is a Muslim forgery from the Middle ages, rather than the early Christian writing of the Epistle of Barnabas. The Gospel of Barnabas denies the Deity of Jesus and has verses of Jesus prophesying the coming of Mohamad. It also has Abraham offering Ishmael on the alter instead of Isaac. The Epistle of Barnabas contains 21 chapters while the GOB has several hundred. God Bless, retxar |

459 | Are those He called always chosen? | Rom 8:30 | retxar | 14210
I, as you, believe neither one will convince the other of their viewpoint. However, their are many who have gained much insight by this debate. The points you say are being hashed and rehashed are NOT the standard points of Calvinism and Arminianism. The standard points of each are usually presented in a hostile self-serving way. That is not what is going on here. As long as the debate continues with a healthy Christian attitude, there is nothing wrong with it. I think it is a good witness of the love of Jesus when 2 brothers can disagree on a hot issue and each present there case in a non-selfserving Christian manner. In Christ Jesus |
