421 | 'Conscientious Objection' Biblical? | Ex 20:13 | retxar | 16095
Thanks Tim for answering the question I had on Romans 13. I have high regard for your knowledge of the Word, and your answer confirmed what I saw also. I stated before that I was not sure of my position on the death penalty. The reservations I have is not biblical support, but rather how scriptural support would apply if those making the life and death decisions do not uphold the Word. The other reservation I have is do I have the right to support the death penalty and ask someone else to “flip the switch” on the condemned when I don’t think I could do it myself? 424 | Relationship between "faith" and "fear"? | 1 Thess 3:5 | retxar | 16071
Faith and fear requires us to do the same thing. We must react now to a future we cannot see. We chose to react to fear or act on faith. We chose to walk in the fear of the flesh, or walk in the faith of the Spirit. When we are really under attack from the enemy, our flesh wants to draw back in fear but the Spirit wants us to reach out in faith. Jesus Lives! retxar |

426 | When did disciples receive the Spirit? | John 20:22 | retxar | 16041
Hi Ray, No problem with the misunderstanding. I just wanted to be clear that I believed the disciples first received the Holy Spirit at John 20:22, and Pentecost was “when the Holy Spirit came upon them” as Jesus described in Acts 1:8. 1) My understanding of John 7:38b in regard to the Spirit. John 7 is about Jesus during the Feast of Tabernacles where each year the Jews would dwell in tents in remembrance of how God took care of them after be delivered them from Egyptian bondage. Part of the festival involved thankfulness to God of how He miraculously provided them with water in the wilderness. John 7:37-38 is an invitation Jesus gives for those who thirst to let them come to Him and drink. Isa 12:3 says “Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” This means to me, as does John 7:38, that salvation is not only a blessing, but also enables us to be a blessing. This is only possible with the Holy Spirit living in us. If the Holy Spirit lives in us then the love of the Holy Spirit will also flow out of us. 2) My view of the word "now" in John 17:5. I believe Jesus was looking at the cross in John 17:5 when He said “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” Jesus had stepped down from His position of glory to a position of submission. With the cross that glory would be restored. The “now” here did not mean “right now” but that the time was at hand; the hour had come, as Jesus put it in verse 1. Look at what Jesus said in John 13:31-32. "NOW the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.” This was after Judas had gone out to betray Him. We know “now” in John 13:31 here could not mean “right now” because Jesus says “now” again in John 17:5, which occurred later. Notice in verse 32 Jesus said “will glorify”, something to happen in the future, not “right now”. Verse 32 even says “immediately”. This is a stronger word than “now”, but John 17:5 proves “immediately” here does not mean “right now” either. Immediately here has to mean Jesus would be glorified at the cross and He would not have to wait for His ascension to be glorified. 3) My understanding of John 14:18,19 and verse 28. This is Jesus’s promise of the Holy Spirit to indwell in all believers. Jesus was God among us, the Holy Spirit is God in us. God Bless You, Bro retxar |

Hi Ray, I don't think you understand my post. Go back and read again. You believe that the Spirit was not given before Pentecost. You added the word "either" as if that was my posistion also.If you go back and read and understand what I was saying, according to the Word, you will know that is not what I was saying. I don't know about the fallen angel called Nepphlin but "wild ox" is translated "unicorn " in the KJV at Num 23:22. Num 24:8, Deu 33:17, Job 39:9, Job 39:10, Psa 22:21, Psa 29:6, Psa 92:10, and Isa 34:7.

432 | When did disciples receive the Spirit? | John 20:22 | retxar | 15902
John 7:39 (But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.) The Holy Spirit was promised to be given by the Lord, and received by those who believed on Him, at a time in the future that would occur after Jesus was glorified. John 17:1 Jesus spoke these words and lifted up His eyes to Heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that Your Son also may glorify You The “hour” Jesus was glorified was at the cross. This fulfilled John 7:39 of when the Holy Spirit would be free to be given to those “who believed on Him”. John 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. This is the very first time the disciples were able to believe in their heart “that God has raised Him from the dead”. Thus the Holy Spirit had now been given and received just as John 7:39 had prophesied. Jesus Lives! retxar |

433 | How inspired is the NAS Bible today? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15500
Well, my view of God's "providence" may be exactly as your view of God's "inspiration". My view of God’s providence would mean God’s Divine guidance in preserving His Word. That would not and could not mean every translation was a perfect and precise inspiration, whereby the Holy Spirit exerted Divine, out of their control, direction on the ears, minds, hearts, and hands of each and every translator, as God did on the holy men that He originally inspired His Word thru. Rather, it means His Word is preserved in such a way that each an every translation is subject to examination and comparison to the original, and we can be confident we know what the original is and we can be confident we are trusting in the work of God and not man. 434 | How inspired is the NAS Bible today? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15488
I agree with you 100 percent that God has preserved His Word for all people of all cultures. I think where we differ is our definition of inspired. I think what you are defining as inspiration, I call providence and preservation. To me, God only inspired one Bible, but thru His providence, He has preserved and continued His Word, not continually re-inspired it. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

435 | The bible is a work of fiction - discuss | Gen 1:1 | retxar | 15482
Mat 5:4 says, God blesses those who mourn. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:5 says, God blesses those who are gentle. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:6 says, God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:7 says, God blesses those who are merciful. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:8 says, God blesses those whose hearts are pure. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:9 says, God blesses those who work for peace. What’s wrong with that? Psa 14:1 says, The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." 1Co 1:18 says, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1Co 3:19 says, For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness". Psa 141:10 says, Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely. You can still escape safely. The world says, “seeing is believing.” God says, “believing is seeing!” In Christ Jesus, retxar |

436 | The dream was from God? | Heb 1:1 | retxar | 15461
You said "Not sure if this response is in regards to the posting I made on 9/6 about having dreams about God." Let's see now. You posted on 9/6. The post you are referring to was posted on 6/29. Even tho I have had neither dreams, visions, or Devine revelation concerning this matter, I’m going out on a limb here and saying I don’t think it was in regards to your post 10 weeks LATTER! Keep things in focus bro/sis. The focus is Jesus, not you! Don’t exalt yourself. Humble yourself so Jesus can us you and then He can be exalted thru you. One of the gifts of the Spirit is discernment (1Co 12:10). Pray that God would give you that gift. That gift helps us determine what is truly from God and what we might want to work up in our own head. A true word form the Lord will not have one witness only. It will always be confirmed by the witness of 2 or 3. Those will be thru the Word, thru the Spirit, and thru other mature believers. Please don’t despise instruction from mature believers and spiritual authorities God has put over you (Heb 13:7). In Christ Jesus, retxar |

437 | How inspired is the NAS Bible today? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15436
View #2 is the only one that can be considered. Neither the NASB or any other translations is inspired in the same way as God inspired the holy men who originally wrote His Word as the Holy Spirit gave it to them (2Pe 1:20-21, 2Ti 3:16). To put any translation equal to what God wrote is an insult to God. Translators can be inspired, just as God inspires us all to do a work for Him, but not to the precise perfection as He inspired His Word. 2Pe 1:20 says no prophecy of Scripture is of ANY private interpretation. How can any translation from any language to another be possible without some interpretation going on? However, let me say this. No one studying the bible under the direction of the Holy Spirit will ever be lead astray by not knowing Greek or Hebrew. The NWT of the JW is a RESULT of their false doctrine, not the cause. No, doctrinal beliefs of any Christian religion is based on any particular translation, even KJV onlyism. KJO is a fear issue, not a translation issue. Let me end on this note: God has certainly supernaturally preserved His Word thru the ages. That has only been possible by God’s hand. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

438 | How be born of water and of the Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15429
1. Before “In the beginning”. Why? Pride (Isa 14:12-15) 2. Your are referring to John 3:5. The meaning? Just read John 3:6! Salvation only comes to those born of the flesh and reborn of the Spirit. This rules out salvation of fallen angels and salvation by works. 3. Romans 7:15-25. We are spirit man and flesh man. We choose which man we want to feed! 4. The Old Testament sacrifice system served as only a shadow of Jesus (Heb 10:1). It was only an image of the real thing (Heb 8:5, 10:1). Example: a 20 dollar bill is only worth 20 dollars because of the gold it represents. If the government decided to give us the gold, the paper would then have no value. The OT “paper” was only temporary until God gave us the “Gold” ! The sacrifices served as a reminder of sin year after year (Heb 10:3). It was not possible that the sacrifices could take away sin (Heb 10:4), but only provide a covering until Jesus came. Jesus took sin away and took the punishment for sin that God required (1 John 2:2). The priest offered the same sacrifices over and over, always standing, never sitting (Heb 10:11), but Jesus offered one sacrifice and then sat down (Heb 10:12), because His work was finished! Jesus Saves!! |

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes in E-sword had this to say on Num 1:14 ("from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel") Deuel is called Reuel in Num_2:14, the Hebrew letters Daleth and Resh being often changed. Other than this, I do not know. retxar |

440 | Where are the scriptures, believers? | Matt 6:15 | retxar | 15266
Here's a few quick verses in addition to 1Jo 1:9. Acts 19:18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Jam 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 1Jo 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. |
