42 | Was Jesus in the grave 3 days and nights | Matt 12:40 | jlschock | 177582
Greetings vamark76, This website should help you. http://www.biblicalholidays.com/Passover/threedays.htm It has a chart of the week leading upto Christ's resurrection. Also it is also useful to know that the Jewish calendar is sunset to sunset not midnight to midnight like ours. After sunset is the next day. The day Jesus was cruxified was the day before Sabbath. Not the weekly Sabbath but the Sabbath of Unleavened Bread. It was three days, three nights just like He said. Joanna :) |

43 | Getting remarried? | Matt 19:9 | jlschock | 185287
This is mentioned twice in Matthew alone. Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:1-12. Mark 10:1-12, Luke 16:18 and 1 Corinthians 7 are other references. Also in the search to the right there are many results under the words 'divorce, remarry and remarriage.' I hope this helps, joanna :) |

44 | Who are "these brothers of mine"? | Matt 25:40 | jlschock | 179727
Since Christians are children of God (John 1:12-13, Galatians 3:7, etc) and Jesus said in Luke 8:21 that His mother and brothers are those that listen the Word and do it, it could be argued that it is only other beleivers. But Matthew 5:43-48 says that brotherly love should be given to everyone even your enemy. I think that Matthew 25:40 is talking about everyone, your kids, your family, people in the hospitol, people in prison, your friend, your enemy, everyone. hope this helps, Joanna :) |

47 | Mary's annoint precede Lazarus ressurec? | John 11:2 | jlschock | 177137
Jesus' reply is the same in Matthew and Mark but in Luke it is different. But just because two autors give account of the same event differently does not neccesarly mean that they were infact two events or just because two authors give the same account of a story doesn't mean that there were other details that happened at the same time that the author left out. John 21:25 says that Jesus did many things that were not written down. I agree with searcher56 they may be two seperate events or she could have annointed Jesus more than once or it is an example of 2 different ways to tell the same event. John 11:2 could be used to prove that Lazarus ressurrection happened after the annointing but it could also be a verse to give the reader more detail. I don't think that it is as important the order of these two events as it is that Mary who is brother is Lazarus is the one who annointed Jesus' feet. |

48 | Mary's annoint precede Lazarus ressurec? | John 11:2 | jlschock | 177142
John 20:30-31 was the verse that I was looking for instead of John 21:25 It is very simulair to John 21:25 but adds "but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." Sorry I didn't have it before. Joanna :) |

50 | explain God father son is one | John 14:10 | jlschock | 178790
My analogy is more for the Trinity than just Father and Son. But I think it helps here too. Look at water. There are three stages of water: solid, liquid and gas. Take an ice cube or some snow and bring it inside and it melts to become liquid. Now boil that same liquid and it becomes steam. All three are water just like the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are God. Just because water is in a solid, liquid or gas state does not mean in anyway that it is not water. |

51 | 1rst time Jesus calls disciples brothers | John 20:17 | jlschock | 179135
I would say no. John 20:17 is after Christ's Resurrection. Matthew 12:49, Mark 3:34, Luke 8:21 are three verses of the same event that happened before that. for His Glory, Joanna :) |

52 | What privileges Jesus give us | Rom 12:1 | jlschock | 179250
John 1:12-13 and Galatians 4:4-5 talk about those who believe in Jesus have the right to become children of God. As a child of God you have certain rights, privileges, possessions and responsibilities. These are describes in Romans 8:17, Galatians 4:7 and Ephesians 2:4-10. Being a child of God is not only about the privileges it is about acting like a child of God. Acting like a child of God is about being a living sacrifice like in Romans 12 and serving others like in Mark 10:45. We are surrounded by a lost world and we as children of God are called to put aside our position that we have in Christ. And like Christ did reach out to the lost and bring them to Christ. Matthew 28:18-20 When Jesus came He did not concentrate on His rights and privileges that He had but he concentrated on us, the lost. We can get caught up in our position and inheritance that we have in Christ and forget all about the lost around us. Our attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus. for His Glory, Joanna :) |

53 | Can a christian go to hell? | 1 Corinthians | jlschock | 185179
God can use anyone for anything He sees fit just because He is Sovereign. He uses His whole creation to bring glory to Himself. Acts 2:17 says that God's Spirit would come upon all mankind. All mankind means not just Christians but Non-Christians as well. John says a lot about love. The verses that stick out in my head are 1 John 4:7-8 and 1 John 3:9-10. I don't know if people are going to hell because they don't love perse, but I do know that God is Love and without Jesus there is no salvation. Hope this helps, joanna :) |

54 | 'virgin' after oral sex (not intercourse | 1 Cor 6:18 | jlschock | 178547
I'd like to add Ephesians 5:3 and I like the way the NIV puts it. "There must not be even a hint of sexual impurity or of any kind of impurity or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." Not even a hint. So yea by webster's standards you could use the 4th defination and say that you are because you have not had intercourse, BUT if you look at the 3rd defination it says "an absolutely chaste young woman" chaste means "innocent of unlawful sexual intercourse" but it also means "pure in thought and act" And there is where Ephesians 5:3 and 1 Cor 6:18 and any verse that any previous post gave you comes in. And although oral sex reduces the risk of pregnancy it does not protect you from STDS. I would also ask yourself, if Jesus was standing in the room with you would you still have oral sex? Because He sees what is done in secret as if it is done in the open, what is done in darkness as if it is light. Everyone will be judged according to what they have done. see Revelation 20:13 Psalm 139:11-12 AMP If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me and the night shall be [the only] light about me, Even the darkness hides nothing from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You. Facing sexual temptation is not easy. I know and I regret so much. From a person that has been there. I would beg you not to keep your mind focused on the question if you are a virgin or not but to meditate on what immorality is and what way is proper for a child of God to act. And don't say to yourself (like I did) that you are not good enough or not loved if you don't have oral sex or intercourse because there is a guy out there that will wait until your wedding night and accept you even if you are not a virgin. for His glory, Joanna :) |

55 | What happens immediatly after you die? | 2 Corinthians | jlschock | 180288
Greetings ddethdan, Immediately after our physical bodies die we will be face to face with God. Hebrews 9:27-28 AMP says "And just as it is appointed for [all] men once to die, and after that the [certain] judgment, Even so it is that Christ, having been offered to take upon Himself and bear as a burden the sins of many once and once for all, will appear a second time, not to carry any burden of sin nor to deal with sin, but to bring to full salvation those who are [eagerly, constantly, and patiently] waiting for and expecting Him." I like Peter's entire speach in this chapter but for length sake I'll only quote the verse pertaining to the question. Acts 10:42 AMP says "And He charged us to preach to the people and to bear solemn testimony that He is the God-appointed and God-ordained Judge of the living and the dead." Hope this helps, Joanna :) |

56 | Are women part of covenant? | Gal 3:29 | jlschock | 184776
The first verse that comes to my mind is Galatians 3:29. Galatians chapter three talks about faith as opposed to the law. One could also argue the difference between a circumscised heart and circumscised flesh. hope this helps, joanna :) |

60 | principles of the doctrine of christ | Hebrews | jlschock | 177060
Hebrews 6:1-2 lists things that are elementry or basic teachings and doctrine of Christ... repentance and abandonment of dead works faith baptism the laying on of hands the resurrection of the dead eternal judgment and punishment I personally understand this passage in context with Hebrews 5:11-14 In Hebrews5:11-6:3 the author of Hebrews is showing his frustration (Heb 5:11-14) and urging the audience not to live on milk but solid food by moving past these elementary teachings listed in Hebrews 6:1-2 (which the audience should have been completly aware of for a very long time) and God permitting/willing move on to advanced teaching (Hebrews 6:3) |
