41 | Study of the minor prophets? | OT general | following him | 127650
Anyone may join the study. The only thing I would ask is that all discussions stick to the subject of the book of Joel. Any tangents that come up should be moved to the main forum and not discussed within the study streams. This study may also latter be used by some as a sort of commentary while reviewing all the postings in it. A commentary which they can add to if they wish.

There is none that I know of. King Uzziah did right in the sight of God. This reference to King Uzziah is just a time indicator of when Isaiah received the vision. Blessing to you Aaron |

Look at Matt 16:16. This is where simon Peter responds to Jesus' question; "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answers "You are the Christ, The Son of the Living God." Jesus tells Peter that it was God that showed that to him and warned His disciples not to tell anyone.
44 | Right purposes for miracles | NT general Archive 1 | following him | 122347
1) Is there miracles in today's world being performed by human beings (God through people)? Yes! 2) Are they deceiving themselves and others into believing these miracles? What is the basis for you to think they are deceiving themselves if they heal somebody. If one gets healed how can that be a deception. You sound like the pharisees who could not believe that the blind man was healed by Jesus. The blind man's response was, all I know is that I was blind but now I see (John 9:25). Regardless of what we have seen or done through the Holy Spirit in the realm of healing, you will not believe. 3) What do we use to determine if these miracles actually come with God's blessing in accordance with His command to "test the spirits." See 1 John 4:1-2 You need to reread this reference. The test does not mention what they do but what they teach about Christ. You keep using it as a guage to what they are doing. |

45 | Right purposes for miracles | NT general Archive 1 | following him | 122381
No Rowdy, I am not forgetting that. The warning against false prophet and teachers is all through the OT and NT. In Rev the beast will do miracles to specifically decieve the elect. But its the criteria which you have chosen that I have a problem with. How do you judge the "Quality" of a miracle. You keep using the reference in 1 John "Test the spirits" as you basis. But this scripture says nothing about testing the actual miracle itself but what those performing the miracle "SAY" or "TEACH" about Christ. Even in the OT the test for a false prophet was if they led the people away from serving God. Tell me if I prayed for someone who had a broken toe and it was healed would that be a valid miracle? Why or why not?

47 | Was Paul married and to a Sanhedrin woma | NT general Archive 1 | following him | 132511
Good Evening Angel Although I know of no scripture specifically mentioning he was a member of the Sanhedrin there are a couple of interesting passages that indicate he may have been. 1. Acts 4:15-16 "But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another, saying, "What shall we do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name." This is the part of the trial the the apostles found themselves in before the Sanhedren. The question here is if all the disciples were put out of the counsel how does this part of the discussion come to be written here. It is possible that Paul was there and related this part of the story to Luke. Of course Gameliel could have told it to Paul as well. 2. Paul or should I say Saul was also intimate with those of the Sanhedrin that stoned Stephen in Ch 7. This is off the subject but an interesting thing here is that Paul being of Tarsus was a Hellenistic Jew ( a non Israel native Jew) and the synagog? of the freedmen was a hellenistic Jewish Synagoge. these were the guys that brought Stephen before the Sanhedrin and the stoned him with Saul's support. Later after Paul is converted and is defending the faith in Jerusalem (Acts 9:28-31), he is seen arguing (and winning) with the hellenistic Jews. Who also began to try and kill him. There are a lot of parallels between Stephen's preaching to the hellenistic Jews and Paul doing the same thing. I wonder if the ones Paul was preaching to were the same ones he at one time had stood with when stephen was stoned. But now the shoe is on the other foot and they are trying to kill Him. Is this an instance of Divine justice? What goes around comes around, you reap what you sow etc. It seems Paul has come full circle. another interesting thing is that The persecution started with Paul at Stephens stoning and it ended with Paul when the disciples sent him away to Tarsus. Acts 9:30-31. Just some rambling thoughts. Blessing to you Aaron |

48 | scatter stones | Gen 1:1 | following him | 121886
It is sort of an agriculture/war issue. If you wanted to make the field of your enemy unproductive but still usable for you when you conquered him you would scatter stones throughout his fields to make them difficult to plant and therefore take away his source of food. If you wanted to completely destroy the field you would scatter salt. If you wanted to clear a field for planting you would gather the stones so you could plant. So there is a time to destroy a field and a time to create a field. The real difficulty is having discernment when to do which. It is difficult to do something that may hurt someone even when the end result brings healing or wisdom. Ex. child rearing, medical proceedures, confronting error, etc. Sometimes a hard hand is required sometimes a soft one.
49 | Gen, 1:1-3 Gap theorythe fall?? | Gen 1:1 | following him | 125711
Hello Me; I agree with Hank. The ICR web site has a great deal of information that will shed light on this subject. Although I would like to share something here about the Gen 1:1. Consider the background of the book. although some may disagree but I do believe that Moses was the author. He was leading Israel out from a nation that worshipped idols into a land where the people worshipped idols so it is not surprising that the first sentance of this book is that God created the heavens and the Earth. Not Ra or Molech, or Baal or any of the other false gods. It was their God. Elohim. this first sentance is a statement of fact not a record of earth history. |

50 | Created | Gen 1:25 | following him | 121892
Yes it is true. See Gen 1:25,26. All the creatures were created first. But man was created in God's image to rule over the creatures. We are a special creation set apart from the animals. We are the focus of God's redemption and promises. We are the ones God calls His children. Luke 3:38 "The son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God" Adam is called God's son. We may have been created last but we are the most important. In fact 1 Cor 6:3 Says that "Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?" There is so much more in the Bible to describe us as being higher than the animals. It would be difficult to show all the references without just giving you the entire Bible.
51 | Follow up needed on suffering | Gen 3:16 | following him | 122371
I've never been very good with words concerning the struggles you've faced and the sorrow you feel. But I hope these will be an encouragement to you at least that is the intent that I have. I first want to bless you for your compassion I can see it in the first message you posted on the 25th. I see taking care of pets as a fulfillment of God's first job he gave man that was to tend the garden. That included the animals as well as plants. As to Why didn't God just forgive Adam and Eve? I believe He did. he covered them in skin of an animal which sacrificed it's life to cover their sin and it was God who did it (Gen 3:21). There are few other things God promised and set in motion at this time as well. 1. He promised a Savior and redeemer. 2 He established the way of redemption through the blood of the innocent. Here he provided skins but later He would provide His only Son. 3. He promised the destuction of the one who caused this all to happen in the first place. Please realise there are three things God cannot do. He cannot lie. He cannot change, He cannot make us love Him. That is the problem with having free will. Unfortunately when Adam sinned he put in to action things that could not be stopped. he gave authority over this world to the devil. He had by his own choice gave the devil authority to influence his life and all the children that would come from him. That is the free will in action and is something God cannot change. This all leads to the suffering we all deal with in this world today. BUT God has fulfilled His promise of a deliverer and redeemer. He has fulfilled His promise of conquering the devil who no longer has authority or should I say we have greater authority than he. And His promised for a new creation still stands. As for condeming mankind to death. The death that took place when Adam sinned was not a physical one but a spiritual one. The Physical death God gave us in Gen 3:22 was actually a blessing. This death was given so that we would not have to live forever in a sinful corrupt world which we made for ourselves through our choices. It was given for us that we could rest from the troubles we face here as long as during our life here was one surrendered to faith in Christ. Please be encouraged although things happen that we may not understand I know that God does not want you to give up. Be strengthen in order to give comfort to those who in like manner may be struggling too. I know I can promise this to you that God will turn this around for you and do great things through you if you stand firm. Love, peace and joy in Christ. |

52 | What does Genesis 3:24 mean? | Gen 3:24 | following him | 126582
I agree with Emmaus. But there is also prophetic implications regarding the lineage of the messiah as well.
53 | What does Genesis 3:24 mean? | Gen 3:24 | following him | 126754
Country Girl; When God gave prophecies to the OT, prophets it was in several different forms. Words were more common but there are many cases where a person’s action was the prophecy. In addition, the prophetic was given in symbolisms such as the sacrifices in the OT were prophetic symbols of Christ. Here in Gen we have the tree of life, which is a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ, Him being our source of eternal life. It is through no other name that we be saved than His. How the angels guarding the way to the tree of life can be seen as prophetic is that the lineage of Jesus Christ has from the very beginning been the target of Satan to destroy the promise of redemption and his destruction. Here are a few examples: 1. Cain and Able – Cain as the firstborn should have had the messianic line through him yet because of his murder of his brother he forfeits all to Seth. Your can see the same principle in the sons of Jacob. Rueben, Simeon and Levi, forfeit their rights because of the sins they committed. The next one in line was Judah through which the messianic line came. I find it also interesting that Cain killed the one who was offering the blood sacrifice. 2. By the time of Noah, the world had become so corrupt that God destroyed all that had the breath of life all except Noah. The plan for redemption is still on. 3. When Israel went into Egypt, they became their slaves. At the time of Moses, the Pharaoh had decided to destroy all male children. This was an attempt at genocide. The seed was considered to come through males to kill all the males were to wipe out the race and the messianic line. This failed when God raised up Moses and delivered Israel. 4. The Ruler ship of Judah often went through times when much of the house was destroyed in an attempt to usurp the throne. 2 Chr. 22 tells of how all of the children of the king were murdered by an evil woman trying to take control. Unknown to her one of the children was hidden by the priests in the temple until he was about six or seven years old when they put him on the throne. This was king Joash. And so once again, the line is protected from being wiped out. 5. During the reign of Hezekiah, the king of Assyria came and laid siege to Jerusalem. Their intent was to destroy the city and the rulers in it. If they had succeeded, Hezekiah would have been killed and the messianic line ended. God sent one angel who killed 185,000 Assyrians. (If one angel could do that, why would God need to put two to guard the way to the tree of life?) 6. The genealogy of Jesus, as shown in Matt 1, records His ancestors back to Abraham. One man mentioned is Jehoiachin. He is interesting because he was the last king before Israel was taken to Babylon. It is also on him that God placed a blood (generational) curse in that no descendant of his would ever sit on the throne again see Jer. 22:24-30. This means that Joseph (of Joseph and Mary fame) had the legal right to the throne but could not rule because he was Jehoiachin descendant. So that ends the messianic line through the legal rulers of Israel because the messiah was to rule on David’s throne, or so it appears. Jesus is Joseph’s son but only by adoption. Jesus did not carry any of Joseph’s genes and could inherit the throne. This is why in Gen. it mentions the seed of the woman not the seed of the man. However, here we have another problem Jesus in order to sit on the throne of David, which the Messiah was to do; He had to be of David’s blood. Here we go to the genealogy in Luke. This genealogy follows Jesus ancestry back to Adam. Here it mentions Joseph son of Heli. Joseph was actually Heli’s son in law. This is actually Mary’s line and it goes back to David. Not through Solomon, but through another one of David’s sons, Nathan. Jesus had the legal right to the throne through Joseph and the blood right through Mary. Both of these conditions had to have been met in the savior of the world. Satan’s attempt to eliminate the Messianic line through the sins of his ancestors again fails. 7. Herod’s attempt to murder the King of the Jews is another attempt by Satan to destroy the way to the Tree of Life. All these are examples of how the way to the Tree (Jesus) was threatened by direct and indirect means to eliminate it. Yet when God placed the angels to guard the way to the Tree of Life in Gen. He promised and foretold that the way to the real Tree of Life (Jesus) would be protected. Blessings to you |

54 | Why is life expectancy for Americans low | Gen 6:3 | following him | 133609
If God limited the life span of men to 120 years, and this restiction came before the flood, how is it that those after the flood lived to well over 120 years. Shem - 602 Arpachshad - 438 Selah - 433 Eber - 464 Peleg - 239 Reu - 239 Serug - 230 Nahor - 148 Terah - 205 Abraham - 175 Issac - 180 Jacob - 140 All of these men except Shem were born after the flood. So it appears that perhaps God was not talking about the life span of man when He mantioned the 120 years. If He did, then why did these all live so much longer. |

55 | Why is life expectancy for Americans low | Gen 6:3 | following him | 133613
Hello Edd: The scriptures do not say how old Noah was when he started to build the ark. Also Gen 6 is not chronilogically after Gen 5. Gen 5 is only a listing of the geneology up to the time of the flood. Gen 6 takes place somewhere during Gen 5. Gen 6:1 is the only time indicator when it says when men began to multiply on the face of the earth. This could be anytime before Noah. So God's command for Noah to build the ark could have taken place prior to Noah's sons being born; 20 years for that matter. |

56 | Is NIV version not worded right? | Gen 9:5 | following him | 122805
The context is not one of standing before God and giving a reason for their actions it is one of holding the animal or person accountable and responisble for their actions and suffering the consequences for them. In this case the consequences of an animal killing a person is the animals death. As well as a person killed another person same consequences.

59 | Integrity | Num 12:7 | following him | 131987
Hello Praise be to God; Although there are a great many people to chose from I would select king David. He was a man after God's own heart. The aspect of integrety that I find most admirable about him is that when he screwed up he didn't hide from it nor deny it. But instead confessed, repented and accepted the responsiblity for his actions. Integrity does not mean being holy or sinless it involves how we lead our lives in our successes and failures. Blessing to you Aaron |

60 | What should be a woman's boundaries? | Ruth 2:22 | following him | 131119
Hello Reighnskye; I just thought of this while reading your question. The book of Judges show a pattern of when Israel was disobiedent to God He "cursed, punished, etc." them and when they returned and repented He blessed them. Here in Ruth we see at the beginning that Israel was possibly in the middle of one of those punishing times. But later we see that God begins to bless them possibly because the had repented. (This is mostly opion or suppisition on my part but it does seem to fit). When Naomi and Ruth return there is a danger to Ruth because she is a Moabite. The Moabites were enemies of Israel. But here we have a Moabite woman in their midst even though she had converted not all may have known and she may have been in danger of those who just returning to God in their zealouseness to keep God's commandments might do her harm. Therefore Naomi encourages her to stay with the maidens of Boaz who was family and would protect her as such. Just thinking. Blessing to you Aaron |
