161 | guiding principles to Revelation | Revelation | following him | 129338
I believe the most foundational principle for understanding the book of Revelation is found in the first verse. It is the revelation of Jesus Christ. Revelation means unveiling. So to understand the book, look to see how Jesus is revealed. We often focus our attention on the side issues of the coming beasts, the judgements etc. but it all comes down to Jesus Christ being revealed.
162 | How do you view Rev 2:1-7 | Rev 2:1 | following him | 126926
I am looking for views on the interpretations of the different letters to the churches in Rev 2 and 3 currently interested in the letter to the church in Ephesus. Rev 2:1-7 Rev 2:1 "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this: Rev 2:2 'I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; Rev 2:3 and you have perseverance and have endured for My name's sake, and have not grown weary. Rev 2:4 'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Rev 2:5 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place--unless you repent. Rev 2:6 'Yet this you do have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Rev 2:7 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.' Scriptural references would be appreciated. Thanks and Blessing to you all. |

Emmaus; thanks for your response. I read views that the letters here can be applied 1. locally - to the literal churches spoken off 2. to all indivual churches - we may find elements of the letters in our churches today 3. An outline of the church history as it will unfold from John's time 4. on a personal level as we examine to see if any of these conditions are in our own heart. But I have never heard of it being applicable to the history of God's people as recorded in the OT. But as I read the part about Ephesus and compared it to your reference to Gen. I found several common lines 1. As Jesus walks through to Lampstands (His church) God walk with Adam. 2. As the church is Ephesus "Left" their first love, so Adam and Eve Left God by Choosing to ignore His Boundaries (eating the fruit) 3. As Ephesus is promised access to the tree of life if they repent. So Adam by the same means has access to Jesus (the tree of life) as He pays for the sins of the world. I believe there may be more to this tree of life here but this is enough to show I can see the merits of this view. It shows me just how intimately and minutly God was to the details of His inspired word. He can make the same scripture have reference to past, present and future at the same time. Our God truely is amazing. I look forward to continuing researching this view with the other letters to the churches. Thank you Blessings to you |

167 | Rider -Jesus or Anti-Christ | Rev 6:2 | following him | 121780
I believe him to be the "Anti-Christ" Since he is not armed with a double edged sword from his mouth. Jesus is always presented as having a double-edged sword coming from His mouth.
168 | is this rider the anti-christ | Rev 6:2 | following him | 121781
Yes, Notice that his description does not match that of Christ. He is armed with a bow, and not a double-egded sword coming from his mouth. Also notice that there is close enough similarities to mistakenly think he is Christ. This will be what the Beast (Anti-christ) would like since he will try to put himself up as the messiah and God and will deceive the nations into thinking that he is.
169 | OT 12 Tribes different 2 12 Tribes in NT | Rev 7:4 | following him | 128253
Hello G sus: If you look throughout the OT (Old Testament) that there were several instances of tribe shuffling to come up with 12 tribes. If you didn't want to include Levi in the accounting then you include the two sons of Josephs but not Joseph. If you wanted to include Levi then instead of counting the two sons of Joseph you count Joseph himself. In this case I don't know why Dan is not included but the idea is that the twelve tribes Israel are involved and that the entire nation of Israel is represented by the twelve tribes. |

170 | Explain the mark in Rev 13 | Rev 13:15 | following him | 128442
Greetings oldeek: I would agree mostly with what EdB says. Receiving mark on our bodies is becoming so common that we wouldn't think twice about putting another one on. And it will not be something that sneeks up on us. The mark has to be some physical thing. It may not be a tatoo though. It may be a micro-chip implanted under the skin there are many who believe this; Although I see it only as a possiblity. The main thing is that it is something physical (I have heard one theory that it is realy only a spiritual thing) because without it you will not be able to buy or sell anything. So it needs to be something that can be verified that you have. It will be something that the beast initiates as possibly a special decree that the government impliments. Many numbers represent things scripturally 3 represent the triune God 7 represent completeness 12 probable represents something although I dont know what it is but there are 12 tribes of Israel, 12 desciples, etc 6 represents man. 666 is the number of the beast and like EdB said there are many theories as to who this number represents. It almost seems you can make any name come out to be 666 depending on how you do the math. In order to really get a better idea of who this will be (Although all ideas will probably be guesses until he actually shows up) you must look at all the other descriptions of him in the Bible and take it all together. Oh by the way there is a partial physical description of him in the Old Testament. Grace and mercy to you |

171 | Is this a lottery? | Rev 20:6 | following him | 130307
Hello Searcher; Please explain to me how Rev 20:4-6 "implies some Christians will not be risen for a thousand years." I'm not getting the connection Blessing to you Aaron |

172 | Is this a lottery? | Rev 20:6 | following him | 130309
Searcher, if you were (the Lord forbid) to die tommorow, before these events, would you take part in the first resurrection?
173 | Is this a lottery? | Rev 20:6 | following him | 130315
Based on these three qualifications, the apostle John would not qualify because he died a natural death prior to these events. Millions of other christains from his time to present that have died natural deaths would not qualify either. Rev 20:6 says that the second death has no power over those who partake of the first resurrection. Does it have power over those who did not take part in it. The rest of the dead are raised at the end of the 1000 years and are presented before the great white throne for judgement Rev 20:5, 11-13. Are we who do not take part in the first resurrection going to partake in that judgement?
174 | Is this a lottery? | Rev 20:6 | following him | 130363
Hello again Searcher56; I thought through what you wrote as to the requirements for participating in the first resurrection they are: 1. Beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, 2. And those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, 3. And had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; ... they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. In Rev 2:20, 24-29 It gives other requirements for those to rule over the nations. 20 "Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 24 "Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. 25 "But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 "And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations— 27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’ —as I also have received from My Father; 28 "and I will give him the morning star. 29 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."‘ This is how I would interpret these passages: The problem this church had was that they allowed Jezebel to teach heretical doctrines that cause the believers to stumble and sin. Jesus tells them that if they overcome that i.e. become diligent in rooting out false doctrines and teachers and return to teaching truth as the church in Ephesus did; and keep His works to the end they would be giving ruler ship over the nations. The only time that I am aware that the nations would be around for them to rule over in this context would be during the 1000-year reign. Nowhere in this passage does it say that they would need to meet the three requirements mentioned above. Since verse 29 says, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the spirit says to the churches.” I assume this letter to the church in Thyatira can be applied to all the churches existing at that time and those existing today. Therefore if I overcome in this particular area meaning not tolerating false doctrines and teachers but expose them for what they are, and keep His works to the end. I will also be rewarded by Jesus and set to rule over the nations participating in the first resurrection. Even if I died tomorrow by natural causes prior to the events described in Rev 20. How would you interprete this passage? |
