Hi Makarios Your statement about Erasmus sounds as though he is not to be trusted. Therefore, would you be so kind as to provide a brief synopsis concerning the difference between these two translations. I have provided sort of a parallel to make it easier.:-) KJV The Revelation 22:15-21 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. NAS 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. KJV 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. NASB 16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." KJV 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. NAS 17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come " And let the one who hears say, "Come " And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. KJV 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: NAS 18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; KJV 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. NAS 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. KJV 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. NAS 20 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly " Amen Come, Lord Jesus. KJV 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. NAS 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. Vintage68 |

44 | understanding of these verses? | Jeremiah | Vintage68 | 216337
Hi John Thanks for the input, but Gill's exposition is not a clarification of the verses, his words are nothing more than a recounting of the same items contained in the verses. On to the ESV Notes. These notes are good as a brief history of the events in Israel of the time, and of the future for Israel (Judah). They come down to a rewording of the same events, ie a more vivid description of the Jeremaic process. But in actuality it says the same as (NASB) Sorry but neither one quite clarify. I thought it was more obvious as to what I was seeing. Jer.23:2,3 2.) Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the shepherds who are tending My people: ("You have scattered My flock and driven them away,) and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to (D)attend to you for the (E)evil of your deeds," declares the LORD. 3.) ("Then I Myself will (F)gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them) and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. Vintage68 |

48 | SUICIDE IS HATING GOD | Matt 28:18 | Vintage68 | 216101
Hi minnow572 This is a verse that I feel should be looked at, in light of your comments. Ephesians 5:29 29.) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: Using the above verse as a guideline, does a person that commits suicide, have a rational mind? If a person does possess a rational mind, would they commit suicide? When you say "so you clearly will not be saved if you commit suicide" Which of the following statements best describes your position? 1.) The person never was saved? 2.) The person looses their salvation? Vintage68 |

49 | "An eye for an eye" relevant now? how? | Luke 6:38 | Vintage68 | 217332
Hi Tenmakk Very simply, Jesus shows us through the rest of the chapter, that we are to not be respecters of persons, we are to treat all men equally, saved, and unsaved. Jesus Himself gives us these examples of how this love is to be demonstrated, even today. Human nature is no different today than it was 2000 yrs. ago, we all want vengeance for wrongs done. Through the love you show, that is what differentiates us from the world, for we are the children of our Father which is in heaven. We are His representatives here on earth. Matthew 5:38-48 38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39) But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40) And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. 41) And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42) Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Hi Tenmakk You say "He has a "but" for each of these that indicates to me that he is correcting the Old Testament passages, or changing them, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you." Jesus didn't change or nullify anything contained in the law. He fulfilled it, He was showing by example a better way, His way, the New covenant way. His example to us was, everything He did was motivated by LOVE. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He came to earth because of LOVE, He lived a life of LOVE, He died for our sins out of LOVE. His example was we are to treat others, as we would be treated. We are to walk in love. Rom 7:1-4 1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Your fruit comes by walking in love. To put it simply, can you think of a way you could take someone's eye, out of love for them? Vintage68 |

Hi Makarios When you say "But after Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, and despite all of His efforts at spreading the Word of His Coming, He would still find Jerusalem unrepentant and unready at the time of His first Coming" Do you feel Jesus was surprised? Or was He just disappointed? With the light of, Matthew 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem," My question is, (why) to both questions. Vintage68 |

Hi Makarios Thanks for the prompt answer. Just wanted to hear your views. I feel the same way, He knew what he would find, he had been telling his disciples that he would be killed, for a long time. Plus he had been talking to the people in Parables, so they would not understand and repent. Matt. 23 Is where I feel Jesus is more voicing the thoughts of God, and His remorse for ALL the Jewish nation had ever done, or failed to do. Blessings Vintage68 |

54 | "The bride is always ready" | John 14:3 | Vintage68 | 213892
Ancient Israel had some customs and practices that would not be allowed in our culture today. One such custom was the engagement process. A young man in his 20s would go with his father to the village where the girl whom he was to marry lived with her parents. While there, the young man and his father would meet the girl, about 14 yrs.old, and her father for the first time. A Jewish matchmaker called a (shadkhan) would put the young man and woman together based on yihus (stock, family background, reputation in the community and personal virtue). Jewish marriages placed an emphasis on love after marriage, as opposed to marring the one you loved. When the young man arrived at the young woman's house, the two fathers would settle on a "bride-price." Payment by means of money or material items was a way of honoring the family that would be loosing the daughter. When the price was settled, the young man's father would pass his son a cup of wine. The young man would drink from the cup then pass the cup to the young woman, signifying that he wanted her to be his wife and that he was giving his life to her. If she drank from the cup, she was in effect saying, "I want to marry you. I accept your life, and I will give you mine." Then the young man and his father would travel back to their village where the young man would begin building a room onto his parent's home. Generations of son's would build on to the house, creating what is called (insula), a house with many rooms. The young man would work on his house until his father, the only person who could give a final approval for the new home, would say "it is ready. Go and receive your bride." While the young man worked on the new house, the bride-to-be would make wedding clothes and learn to take care of a home. She was expected to always be ready for his return at any moment. During this time of preparation, all of the people in the young woman's village would refer to her as "one who has been brought with a price." Eventually the house would be ready, the young man's father would give his approval and send his son to receive his bride. When the bridegroom would enter the village of the bride-to-be, he would blow a shofar and all the people of the village upon hearing the horn would know the bridegroom had arrived. A wise bride would be ready when her bridegroom arrived. Therefore those who have been preparing, and making themselves ready for the groom will join him when he returns, sending his angles to sound the trumpet. John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." ---(Jonathan Gainey) |

Hi grafted in: When you say "But we must remember that the early christians were kind of stuck with their kings and his appointed entourage." Where were these Christians, who were the Kings they were stuck with? Is there scripture? Aren't we stuck with our leaders in the same way? If they had really disagreed with the Kings, couldn't they have rebelled? Set up their own kingdom, or at least gone to some other kingdom? Vintage68 |

Hi GI: Yeah I guess your right I did think, your note was self-explanatory, but I wasn't asking for people, to give their personal views on the political scene we have today. That goes against the terms of use, that we all agreed to when we joined the forum. You raised the point of the Christians having kings and their appointed entourage. I was just asking you for the bible references. But you can forgo answering, I see that it bothers you. By the way did you read the original question at all? If so did I word it in such a way, that it was hard for you to understand, seems I have a way of doing that sorry, please forgive me:-( Vintage68 |

59 | Obey your leaders ? | Acts 5:29 | Vintage68 | 216743
Hi grafted in Since the other day, having asked the question, I have come to the understanding that, it's not who is in the office, KING, PRESIDENT, DOG CATCHER. These categories cover the past, and the present. They also cover the highest, and what some might consider the lowest of offices. What it all comes down to, is the authority they have. We may not like the person in said office, we may not think the office is of any importance, but whatever this office might be, if this office has ANY Authority at all, then we should honor the office itself, by giving respect, and due benevolence to the person holding that office. The other part of the question, was about the leaders in the church. From what Rollf has said, and from further study, I have come to the same conclusion that the Heb 13:17 scripture Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. These people have also been given authority, for the purpose of ruling, within the house of God, they "Must give account" for how they have watched over our souls. How far are we to allow any abuses go within the Church, before rebelling? Our only position then is to submit to the ruling power, whether to King, or to the rulers of the church. 1 pet.2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: Whether the person obtains the position by birth rite, as a king might, or an appointment by said king, or through election by the people. They have all been put into that position by God for His purpose. For all authority belongs to God, He gives it to whom he wills. They all fall into the category spoken of in Rom 13:1 Vintage68 |
