42 | if you are saved are you always saved? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 162952
Born again again? Hebrews 6:4-6 (ESV) FOR IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESTORE AGAIN TO REPENTANCE THOSE WHO have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, [5] and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, [6] if they then FALL AWAY, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. (Emphasis added.) 'For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have (done all these things in Heb. 6:4-5) and then have fallen away...Those who want to make this verse mean that believers can lose salvation will have to admit that it would then also say that one could never get it back again' (MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). '...it is impossible to restore [them] again to repentance..." ' . . . logically v. 4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. 'This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier... [Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with,] either way, the result is identical.' (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) |

43 | if you are saved are you always saved? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 162955
The Eternal Insecurity Version (EIV) IF one could fall from grace and lose one's salvation, then the following Scriptures would have to read as they do here in order to line up with that "truth". (I added and deleted words to the following verses to demonstrate how they would have to be changed IF it were true that one could lose his salvation. I mean no irreverence or disrespect toward the Bible. I'm not the one who needs to add to or take away from the words of the Bible in order to make it line up with my beliefs.) John 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath NOT everlasting life, and MAY OR MAY NOT come into condemnation; but is passed from LIFE UNTO DEATH. John 10:27-29 (KJV) My sheep CANNOT hear my voice, and I know them NOT, and they MAY OR MAY NOT follow me: [28] And THEY MUST EARN eternal life; and they MAY OR MAY NOT perish, and ANY man is able to pluck them out of my hand. [29] My Father, which gave them me, is NOT greater than MAN; and ANY man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. Philip. 1:6 (KJV) Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you MAY OR MAY NOT perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 1 Peter 1:4-5 (KJV) To an inheritance CORRUPTIBLE, and DEFILED, and that FADETH AWAY, NOT reserved in heaven for you, [5] Who are NOT kept by the power of God. The above misquotes are absurd, aren't they? But they are no less absurd than the attempts to explain away these verses as they actually appear in the Bible. |

45 | Do animals have souls? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 163047
Do Animals Have Souls? 'The Bible does not give any specific teaching on whether animals have “souls” or whether animals will be in heaven. 'However, we can take some general Scriptural principles and shed some light on the subject. The primary difference between human beings and animals is that man is made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God breathed the breath of life into man (Genesis 2:7), but not animals. If animals do have a “soul” or immaterial aspect, it must therefore be of a different and lesser "quality." This difference probably means that animal “souls” do not carry on after death.' To read more go to: www.gotquestions.org/pets-heaven.html |

Correction: In my previous post I misspelled Galatians. It should be Galatians, not Galations. f. or ff. means "and following". For example, Galatians 2:4f means "Galatians 2:4 and following." cf. means "compare to" |

Usually ff. (following) would include the verses immediately following the verse that was referenced, e.g., those verses that immediately follow which pertain to the same topic; the rest of the paragraph. 51 | related but different | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 163522
Yes, you are correct. A book, chapter and verse number followed by "a" indicates that only the first part of that verse is quoted; "b" would indicate only the second part; and if only the third part is quoted it would be indicated by a "c" following the verse number. So if someone quotes, say, the first part of a verse only, they would correctly reference it as book chapter:versea, for example, Isaiah 59:2a If someone quotes only the second part of a verse only, it would look like this: Psalm 14:3b Grace to you, Kalos |

59 | spelling xmas instead of Christmas | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 165307
'Is using the term ‘Xmas’ leaving Christ out of Christmas? 'I have no idea who started using the abbreviation “Xmas” or the reason for it, but I suspect it was simply to abbreviate the term by using the English letter ‘X,’ which represents the Greek letter chi, the first letter of Christos (Cristo) for Christ. If you will note, the first Greek letter of christos, the chi, looks very much like our English letter X. Christos means “anointed one” and comes from the verb chrio (criw), “I anoint.”' ____________________ www.bible.org |
