381 | Need to confess sins after being saved. | 1 John 1:9 | New Creature | 107469
Greetings windjammer; Many Christan's have been taught, or wrongly believe, that now that they are saved, there is no need for further confession of sins committed by acts of comission or omission, so we can receive forgiveness. But what does God's word truly have to say about the matter, is what matters. The answer can be found in 1 John. The Epistle of 1 John was written to believers. Look at: 1 John 5:13 These things have I WRITTEN UNTO YOU THAT BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God; Since 1 John is written to YOU BELIEVERS, it is of utmost importance to look at how the pronouns are used in 1 John Moving on lets read the following text observing all the pronouns which I Capitilized: 1 John 1:7 But if WE (BELIEVERS) walk in the light, as he is in the light, WE (BELIEVERS) have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth US (BELIEVERS) from all sin. 1 John 1:8 If WE (BELIEVERS) say that WE have no sin, we deceive OURSELVES, and the truth is not in US 1 John 1:9 If WE confess OUR sins, he is faithful and just to forgive US OUR sins, and to cleanse US from all unrighteousness. It is clear from verse 7 that: if WE BELIEVERS continually walk in the light, we remain in fellowship with God, and receive continual and ongoing cleasning from His blood. Or as the familar song asks: "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus." Since sin in the life of a Christian is a reality, because we often stumble and slip, sin in the life of a Christian should never become habitual in nature. Also unconfessed sin in the life of a Christian takes us out of fellowship with God, and confessing and turning from sin restores us to fellowship. (see verse 7 again) Lastly we don't confess our sins to a priest, but we confess our sins to God, to whom we remain accountable to. Hope you find this helpful |

382 | Did Christ die for the world? | 1 John 2:2 | New Creature | 180755
I love the following comment an individual by the name of Georgius made concerning 1 John 2:2 "Christ is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world; and hence those who wish to exclude the reprobate from participation in Christ must place them outside the world." |

383 | come out | 1 John 2:15 | New Creature | 44322
Concerning worldliness which you ask about, consider the following verses Col. 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Whatever leads us further away from Christ and not closer, is of the world and should be avoided. Prayerfully ask for wisdom and direction. |

384 | Should a preacher be revered | 1 John 2:20 | New Creature | 165475
Well we should show deep love and respect for those who minister faithfully 1 Thess 5:12 But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 1 Thess 5:13 and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves. |

385 | Who makes the rules? | 1 John 3:9 | New Creature | 94338
Baptistbred I too have read some of the commentaries by some of the same men you listed, and their comments on 1 John. Here are a few comments from Spiros Zodhiates found on pages 183 - 185 of his Exegetical Commentary on The Epistles of John Whoever has been born of God does not practice sin, for His seed abides in him and he cannot be habitually sinning, because he has been born of God. "the believer may fall into sin. 1 John 2:1 states, and if one were to fall into sin (hamarte). The verb is subjunctive aorist which means the falling into an occasional sin for which there is confession (1 John 1:9) and forgiveness. A person who sins habitually without a sense of conviction and repentance cannot claim to have the Holy Spirit within him, and he who has him cannot sin habitually. The two states are mutually exclusive. The reason for the inability to habitually sin is that he has been born (gegennetai, the perfect indicative passive of genao) of God." Concerning your closing statement in which you stated: "Who makes the rules as to WHAT sins one has to continue in to be "continuing in sin?" I can only say that sin is sin. Any sin habitually committed without remorse or a sense of conviction and confession, on the part of the individual, is not walking in fellowship, and is not allowing the blood of Jesus to cleanse him. (see 1 John 1:7) which states; "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." It is only by continuiosly walking in the light that we have fellowship with Christ. The person who continues a life-style of habitual willful sin, is out of fellowship. Last year I led a small cell group in a Study of the First Epistle of John, and these are just a few thoughts concerning your question that have entered my mind. Hope this helps somewhat Grace unto you New Creature |

386 | making it to heaven after you get saved | 1 John 3:9 | New Creature | 118117
Greetings god chaser; After having already become saved, we will desire to do our Heavenly Father's will, and the Biblical promise for these is that they "shall enter into the kingdom of heaven" But we cannot know our Father's will if we negelect to daily spend time alone with God in prayer, and in His word. Matt. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Blessings New Creature |

387 | Matt 7:21 criteria for heaven | 1 John 3:9 | New Creature | 144358
Experience teaches us that just because we become Christian's, that we don't automatically become sinless. Christian's often fall into a lapse of sin. When they do they feel the Holy Spirit's conviction, repent and turn from any known or revealed sin. However if someone remained in a life of habitual unremorseful, and unconfessed sin, I would doubt whether or not that this person was ever saved. Christian's are not perfect. God is still working on them and in them and with them. It's a process which we call sanctification. |

388 | How to love others as commanded | 1 John 3:11 | New Creature | 108866
Greetings jr8 I personally believe that the process of learning to love varies depending upon individual circumstances. But nevertheless it is both instantaneous and ongoing. One thing that can speed up the process depends on how much you individually have been forgiven. I state that for no other reason, other than what is stated in the following text of God's word: Luke 7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. Luke 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Luke 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. Luke 7:44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Luke 7:45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. Luke 7:46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Luke 7:47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Also concerning how to love, one of the saints of old, made the following comment on this verse; Matt. 5:44 But I (Jesus) say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; "The person who wants to fulfil this command must LEARN the right way to love his enemy. Very simply, you must LEARN not to be upset over an injury because it is an offense to you. Rather, out of your love for God, TRAIN your thoughts on the harm your enemy is doing to his own soul with each sin or offense he commits." Blessings New Creature |

389 | Can a christian be under a curse? | 1 John 4:4 | New Creature | 167382
Christian's who stray from the narrow path, can be subjected to Heavenly Disipline, in order to get us back on the right path. I guess you could call this Heavenly spanking from our Heavenly Father a curse, especially if you dislike discipline
390 | Where did evil come from? | 1 John 5:19 | New Creature | 110784
Dear wordsmith; Since I see others have addressed your question quite well, I am merely going to add comments, concerning the origin of evil. In Norman Geislers book - Chosen But Free (Second Edition) pages 22-23 is the following text. "the power of moral free choice entails the ability either to choose the good God designed for us or to reject it. The latter is called evil. It is good to be free, but freedom makes evil possible. Free will is good in itself, but entailed in that good is the ability to choose the opposite of good, which then makes evil possible. If God made free creatures, and if it is good to be free, then the origin of evil is the misuse of freedom. This is not hard to understand. We all enjoy freedom to drive, but many abuse this freedom and drive recklessly. Yet we should not blame the government that gives us the license to drive for all the evil that we do with our cars. Those whose irresponsible driving kills others are responsible for what has happened. Remember: the government that gave us the permission to drive has also informed us to drive safely. Likewise, God is morally accountable for giving the good thing called free will, but He is not morally responsible for all the evil we do with our freedom. Solomon said it well: "This only have I found: God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes" (Eccl. 7:29). In brief, God made the fact of freedom; we are responsible for the acts of freedom. The fact of freedom is good, even though some acts of of freedom are evil. God is the cause of the former, and we are the cause of the latter." Blessings to you New Creature |

391 | What do we believe? | Jude 1:3 | New Creature | 117032
Below is the doctrinal statement of my church denomination. I post it merely as an example. Please notice I did not give the name of the denomination, so as not to seem to promote the denomination I am affliliated with. I do however personally agree that these doctrinal statements are Biblical, and thats why I choose to be affiliated with them. 1. There is one God,(1) who is infinitely perfect,(2) existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.(3) (1) Deuteronomy 6:4, (2) Matthew 5:48, (3) Matthew 28:19) 2. Jesus Christ is the true God and the true man.(4) He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.5 He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust,(6) as a substitutionary sacrifice,(7) and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.(8) He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures.(9) He is now at the right hand of Majesty on high as our great High Priest.(10) He will come again to establish His kingdom, righteousness and peace.(11) (4) Philippians 2:6-11, (5) Luke 1:24, (6) I Peter 3:18, (7) Hebrews 2:9, (8) Romans 5:9, (9) Acts 2:23–24, (10) Hebrews 8:1, (11) Matthew 26:64) 3. The Holy Spirit is a divine person,(12) sent to dwell, guide, teach, empower the believer,(13) and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.(14) (12) John 14:15–18, (13) John 16:13, Acts 1:8, (14) John 16:7–11) 4. The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.(15) (15) 2 Peter 1:20–21, 2 Timothy 3:15–16) 5. Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God:(16) he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature,(17) are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.(18) The portion of the unrepentant and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment;(19) and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss.(20) (16) Genesis 1:27, (17) Romans 3:23, (18) 1 Corinthians15:20–23, (19) Revelation 21:8, (20) Revelation 21:1–4) 6. Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God.(21) (21) Titus 3:4–7) 7. It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly,(22) being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service.(23) This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion.24 (22) 1 Thessalonians 5:23, (23) Acts 1:8, (24) Romans 6:1–14) 8. Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body.(25) Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the Church in this present age.(26) (25) Matthew 8:16–17, (26) James 5:13–16) 9. The Church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church, (27) which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations.(28) The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.(29) (27) Ephesians 1:22–23, (28) Matthew 28:19–20, (29) Acts 2:41–47) 10. There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life;(30) for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment.(31) (30) 1 Corinthians 15:20–23, (31) John 5:28–29) 11. The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent(32) and will be personal, visible, and premillennial.(33) This is the believer's blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.(34) (32) Hebrews 10:37, (33) Luke 21:27, (34) Titus 2:11–14) |

392 | What do the leters to 7 churches mean | Revelation | New Creature | 72252
After reading about the 7 churches in Reveltion, I have become convinced that what happened to those 7 literal churches way back then can and does happen to churches in our time. There are warnings to all churches of all times about becoming apathethic, complacent, lukewarm, spiritually dead, leaving our first love which is Christ Jesus, The following warning is mentioned 7 times "He who has an ear. let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches" this, I believe applys to all churches in all ages. They were the church. We today are the church. We need to be atuned to what the Spirit is speaking to us in our days. We need to know what the spiritual temperature of us individually, and corperately is as well. Have we become "lukewarm" Are we about to "leave our first love" Jesus says I would rather that you were either hot or cold, but because you are neither hot or cold but lukewarm, I am about to spit you out of my mouth, you have become distasteful to me. We need to take heed to the warnings of Revealation. They apply to us as well as them. |

393 | letters Jesus wrote to the 7 churches | Rev 2:7 | New Creature | 58330
I believe that the letters that were written to the 7 churches in Asia, are directed at all churches in all ages. Seven times in Rev. chapters 2 and 3 are found the following words - Rev 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; Are we today a church that still needs to be hearing what the Spirit would say? I think so. Lastly - Discovery House Publishers has two great videos on this topic. The two videos are entitled " Land Of The Seven Churches" these two tapes can be obtained by contacting Discovery House Publishers Box 3566 Grand Rapids, MI 49501 or e-mail them at videos@dhp.org their web-site is - http://www.dhp.org/ Hope this helps |
