321 | New Morality? | Col 2:8 | Country Girl | 128133
I'm reminded of the wisdom from Solomon Eccl 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. Eccl 1:10 Is there anything of which one might say, "See this, it is new"? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. Eccl 1:11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still. Eccl 1:12 I, the Preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. Eccl 1:13 And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom concerning all that has been done under heaven. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. Eccl 1:14 I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind. Eccl 1:15 What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted. Eccl 1:16 I said to myself, "Behold, I have magnified and increased wisdom more than all who were over Jerusalem before me; and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge." Eccl 1:17 And I set my mind to know wisdom and to know madness and folly; I realized that this also is striving after wind. Eccl 1:18 Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain. As long as mankind is on this planet, there will always be those looking for a new moraility but it will be up to the christians of every age and generation to remind them, there is no such thing that can be acceptable to God. 324 | KJV the ONLY authentic Word of God? | 1 Thess 5:21 | Country Girl | 125493
Good point. If it's only one thing we should learn from all this discussion is that no one translation of God's Word should be put on a pedestal for very long. Language throughout the world (especially the modern world) is just too dynamic with too many changes to allow for such a thing. The item that we DO need to put on a pedestal forever for each of us is God's Word Itself, the message, the Good News of Salvation through Christ. We must devote ourselves to study God's Word all our lives, to include all translations and give each one its proper credit. When the translators do a good job, it will become evident in the study and comparison with all the others. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

325 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Country Girl | 123717
The Bible is very specific about this subject. 1 Cor 14:34 The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

326 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Country Girl | 123808
Sometimes I must admit those on the Forum can get just a little rough with some of their responses. Sometimes they don't even sound like they came from people who have read about the love of God as described in 1 Cor 13. BUT I'm still afraid that doesn't mean that ANYONE can EVER revise God's Word and He is very, very clear on this matter of the woman's role in the Lord's church. And that role is to be in submission to the men of the congregation of which we're members, in accordance with the pattern set for us in the NT. I pray this is helpful. Blessings to you. 327 | Rule or Ideal? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Country Girl | 130001
It's been my experience here in America that we're seeing less and less christian men who qualify for this office. Of course, one of the most important qualifications is the desire for that office. As the ideal conditions encouraging the growth of Christianity continue to deteriate, I think it's important all the more to stick to the pattern that God has set out for us to follow. His commands, both by imperative statements and by the examples as demonstrated by NT christians paint a picture of Perfect Success in the first century. There in the first century, they had every imaginable kind of sin, especially as displayed in the Books of I and II Corinthians. So we would be well advised if we want to ensure the church as intact, living and viable through the next generation, we need to resolve to teach our kids and our grandkids an awesome level respect for God's Word. We CANNOT possibly exceed or even come close to the level of Perfection we see in our NT Bible but we need to give it our best shot. I would suggest we just stick to the simple qualifications for church leadership as cited in the NT. That's the safest and most logical way to be certain we're true to God. Adding or attempts to improve will just get us into trouble, as afterwards who gets to say when we stop. It's a long and slippery slope you're suggesting, one with very, very dangerous consequences. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

329 | What are ways to stay free from strife? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Country Girl | 133111
I would say reading and re-reading all scriptures that encourage the art of peace making would be a good start. One of them is from Paul in Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, Eph 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, Eph 2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. Eph 2:17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; Eph 2:18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, The most important aspect of this is to realize that there's always going to be a similar wall separating us from God as long as we have on-going sins in our lives with no indications of repentance on our part. AND it's only by the Grace and Forgiving Love from God that any of us have a chance of going to Heaven. If you know of some topic of controversy or strife between you and another, I can only suggest going to him and tell him honestly you'd like to remove that wall/barrier by starting off by reading this passage and then pray together to God, the Father of both of you. Two people who pray together should find it a little easier to forgive each other and "gain a brother," and thus gain a closer relationship with God. I hope this helps and Blessings to you. 330 | once saved always saved? | 2 Tim 4:18 | Country Girl | 128896
There is of course another side to this argument. As Hank mentioned, it's been fairly well covered in the past on the Forum. I'd like to agree with most of what Hank has said here for indeed, none of us are going to deceive God with a false face of christianity if it's NOT motivated by real and genuine love underneath. I'd like to remind you and everyone else that we've all experienced in our lives putting our faith of some measure into a valued friend who we thought was a good person, maybe even a good faithful christian and this relationship lasted for a long time. I also know that most of us have experienced, at least at one point in our lives, extreme disappointment in seeing one of our dear friends come to a low point in their lives, curse their previous relationships with us or with God and suddenly act like they never knew God. Remember Paul's words from Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. and Jesus words from Matt 18:15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that "by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.' 17And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. Now my question to you: If there's no chance of this kind of thing happening to a christian as Hank is depicting, why would God spend so much time in His Word on this subject? Blessings to you. 331 | once saved always saved? | 2 Tim 4:18 | Country Girl | 128999
Quoted from Hank's post: And unfortunately the doctrine of the eternal security of the believer (perseverance of the saints) is misunderstood by a number of sincere and well-meaning Christians (and non-believers too), who take it to mean no less than having a license to continue to live a life of sin and get away with it. Hank's Post was a bit much to swallow because of its size and no chunking into paragraphs but I think the quote above is that to which I was referring. HOWEVER, just to be clear, what I'm really saying is: IF the OSAS concept is actually taught and endorsed by the Bible, then why does God spend so much time in that same Bible about christians repenting after becoming a christin? You do realize of course that the whole NT was written to christians about christians but was also written for the benefit of those who might want to become a christians, right? For example, even the Gospels were written after Jesus death and resurrection so that when Jesus said "I will build my church," the church had not been built at the time of his speaking so the Apostles were writing from a historical viewpoint. Anyway, I hope this is clear and blessings to you. Country Girl |

332 | once saved always saved? | 2 Tim 4:18 | Country Girl | 129074
I would emphasize John's picture from 1 John depicting christians staying in the fellowship of light from God. You might notice that it's paramount to maintain a proper relationship with all of God's children (fellow christians) in order to keep a good, intact relationship with God. This is very clear from John's writing. The most important point from 1 John applicable to this thread is that of staying within the fellowship of God, represented by light. We could compare this to a common credit account with one of our many creditors throughout America. As long as we maintain a good history record of making regular payments, our credit is good and we're able to enjoy the benefits, including the purchasing power and maybe even a slight bit of prestige when the credit limit is high or the history record is good and long enough. Now in comparison, God bought us back from the devil as our souls were forfeited with all our sins to a hopeless eternal Hell with Satan's angels. He bought us with the most expensive commodity immaginable, His very own son's blood. So now we're in debt to Him, a debt we could NEVER even hope to pay back. So we're obligated to Him to obey Him and comply with all His commands and examples as cited His Holy Word. Now of course, our God is absolutely Perfect and cannot allow sin in His presence including our hopelessly sinful beings...unless we're covered by His Son's blood, thus our need for salvation in accordance with His Son's Last Will and Testament. Now being saved doesn't do away with the sin in our lives so in that respect we're still no different from the most vile sinner on earth. The big, most important difference between these two different groups of sinners is whether or not they're saved, having the blood of Jesus to cover their sins. With that relationship intact with both our God and our fellow christians, then we can look forward to the benefits of coverage by our God even when we're "caught off guard" and die suddenly. As long as we've establish a regular habit of repenting regularly of the sins of commission and omission, we're good to go. That's what the Grace of God is really all about. As long as God knows in our hearts, He's King of our lives and His Grace is continuously active in our lives. Other benefits includes the Holy Spirit's assitance in avoiding the sins in our lives, especially as we mature in Spirit with God and learn to spend more and more of our time with our fellow christians. So in a sense, yes God forgives us over and over again because we are primarily human and are very vulnerable to the temptations of Satan. So we should see ourselves in need of our Lord's assistance in this area. We must never think of this process as earning our way to Heaven. Now, there are certain responsibilities (as you mentioned) like bearing one another's burdens, restoring our brethren. Again, these actions should be looked at as weak feeble attempts to pay our Lord for the debt we owe him. I hope this clarifys a little. Country Girl |

334 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132270
Baptism is just the final step to actually get us into the family of God much like the ritual of circumcism did for those wishing to become part of the Israelite family in the OT. Regeneration is an ongoing process. It's God's refining process by which he gets mankind to an acceptable level of righteousness or spiritual condition so we can enter Heaven. Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Also from Apostle John, Rev 3:18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. We could talk about perfecting your "armor of God" or "adding the fruits of the Spirit." There are many ways God expects us to "work out our salvation." All of these are aspects of Christianity God wants to see perfected in us as much as possible. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

335 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132280
Since there's only two scriptures where this word is used, there's not a whole lot of guidance as to what exactly is meant by its use. Matt 19:28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, Since, it's clear that we have to "use the Bible as Its best own Commentary," I see nothing wrong with the use of "transforming" as cited in Romans or "refining" as cited in Revelation. It does seem pretty clear from all the Bible that God does want us, His creation to come back to Him in Heaven but sin and our human, fleshly bodies prevent us from being able to do that. Now since, the devil is a spirit and believes in God, it's also clear we must do more than simply attain a spiritual status and believe in God ourselves. So once again, I say it's God's influence in our lives as His children that saves us when we actually act on our faith in Him and obey His commands. We study His Word and pray for His guidance and eventually we should see ourselves coming closer and closer to that which we see and study in God's Word. Notice Paul's words in 2 Cor 3:12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech-- 13unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. And James' words in Ja 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. So we should use God's Word to measure our lives and strive to come closer to that absolute standard of Perfection as Modeled by our Lord. Now of course, each of us is responsible for our own soul's condition and the relationship we establish with God our Father. AND since we are very definitely our brother's/sister's keeper, yes we are to love them enough to do our fruit inspecting and at least ask how they're doing in their walk with God. We SHOULD be willing to confess our faults, our weaknesses to one another, confide and pray for one another as the scriptures encourages us to do. In this way, we gain a closer fellowship with our family members AND a closer relationship with God. The overall net effect is that we're all transformed on a daily basis into better and more mature christians. Hopefully, we'll all be motivated to take as many as possible with us, hand in hand during our journey to Heaven. Do you not agree? I hope so. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

336 | baptism regenerate? | Titus 3:5 | Country Girl | 132340
I agree with you, it's always best to gather from the verse under discussion what is the immediate context so for that purpose, I quote: Matt 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt 19:24 "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matt 19:25 When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, "Then who can be saved?" Matt 19:26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matt 19:27 Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?" Matt 19:28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matt 19:29 "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. Matt 19:30 "But many who are first will be last; and the last, first." So we see that Christ made this statement immediately after his encounter with the rich young ruler who refused to give up his possessions, take up his cross and follow Jesus. So once again, this regeneration is a transition process. God and His Son want to see us, all of us graduate from this physical world to a spiritual world, come and join Him in Heaven but as I've mentioned before, we MUST allow God to choose the timing. Again, I don't see anything truly different in this scenario. Basically it boils down to us in our present condition without God, after we reach the age of accountability and before we become a christian...we've got no hope. Then we establish a relationship with Him as our Father through His Son and ONLY through Him. Everything else is on God's part to get us there in Heaven through our belief and faith in His Grace and Forgiveness. All we got to do is obey His commands which include "being faithful till death" per Rev 2:10 and being fruitful in our works of faith as per James 2. How could it be any clearer? Now, I must admit we CANNOT boast or think we can earn our way to Heaven. That too is very clear from the scriptures but we do have a job to do: be a vessel for God showing His Light throughout our lives so that others will be influenced to also establish a similar relationship to God. Now, can we agree on all the above? I hope so. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I can only respond with more scripture. 1 Pet 2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 1 Pet 2:14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. 1 Pet 2:15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. 1 Pet 2:16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. 1 Pet 2:17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. and 1 Pet 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 1 Pet 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 1 Pet 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 338 | the last judgement and be heaven bound | Hebrews | Country Girl | 128149
In contrast to the somewhat vague and highly symbolic language, we have other scriptures Heb 9:24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; Heb 9:25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. Heb 9:26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, Heb 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. In verse 27, it's clear that Judgment Day is final and forever. Also Christ talks about this rather clearly and thoroughly in Matt 25. Nothing in Revelation should be understood to override Jesus Words in Matt 25. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I've seen and read all three of your posts on this subject book of Hebrews but you've posed no questions, only statements. Is this a three part sermon or are we headed for some questions to start a discussion? So far, I agree with all of your statements as Hebrews is an excellent dissertation of the superiority of Christianity over the Jewish Religion. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

340 | Discerning supernatural effects? | Heb 5:14 | Country Girl | 133073
I would have to say one vital ingredient in making such a determination is patience. God assures us "things work out for good for those that love the Lord." But sometimes this involves some waiting and see the results. In my life, sometimes I finally figured out that God was having his way in my life many years prior to my discovering that fact. I think we see the Bible endorsing this kind of of hindsight in the life of Joseph in the OT. I think most everyone remembers Joseph's dreams, his trials and tribulations but He finally sees God's providence in his life and even shares this discovery with his brothers. But I emphasize it took a lifetime, apparently for Joseph to see this as a definite plan of design from God. Personally, I think the more we study God's Word, the more we're inclined to see God's handiwork in our lives. Just my opinion but I think I'm on solid ground. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
