324 | will the spirit enter the dead 2 go to c | 1 Thess 4:16 | EdB | 238781
Yes we believe that upon resurrection our spirit will unite with our transformed bodies and become one again. We see in 1 Thess 4:16 that the dead will rise first. For the dead to rise their bodies would have to be reconstructed from the decay of the grave. And we are told by Paul to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor 5:8 Therefore our bodies and spirit must be united at the resurrection. |

326 | John 1:1 | Genesis | EdB | 238762
Homework question? What do you mean a more settled life? We never saw him live a life of chaos. We don't know about his life before his call but one has to imagine it was settled. As he traveled under God's leadership his life was settled. When he got to the promise land his life was settled. He did continue to travel and move around but I wouldn't call that unsettled so I'm not sure what you are referring to. Could you explain? |

328 | all differn,t groups not possable | Gen 9:1 | EdB | 238758
Noah and his sons came from the lineage of Adam. And all of earth came from Noah and his sons. By the time of the flood many believe each of Noah's sons had taken a particular characteristic of various races carry today. Example I have no oriental background but when I was younger my eyes carried a definite oriental appearance. Had I married someone that enhanced that even more I'm sure our children would be mistaken for orientals. Even more than I was. But the facts remain all races come from the same stock. We are all the same just but with different characteristics that we have learned to associate with race instead of fact we are all of the same stock. |

329 | fear of God | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 238756
First do you understand what the "fear" of God means? It means you love and respect God. That you honor and obey God. That you show God the reverence He is due. Once we really understand God's awesome power, might, capabilities and most of all His grace we learn to fear God. We don't fear God because of what He might do to use out of meanness but we fear God when we fully respect and honor Him. Proverbs 1:7 (NASB) 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction. Read Ps 34 in verse 11 the author tells us he will teach us to fear the Lord. Psalm 34:11 (NASB) 11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Reading the rest of that psalm is a good beginning. |

331 | What is the "heart" ? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 238716
In the NASB the word heart appears 726 times in 677 verses. A quick scan of the list reveals heart is mentioned almost always in regards the soul of man a spiritual reference rather than a physical organ. In a few places I found the term heart used that could be thought of talking of the physical heart it was places like Job 37:1 (NASB) 1 "At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. Which could be talking of the spiritual heart at the same time. |

332 | Modern Leviticus | Leviticus | EdB | 238712
The Laws are only silly to those that view them that way. To God and the Jews to whom the Law was given it was very important. Example cloth made from two different threads was to teach Israel spiritual purity. You should not be unequally yoked (believer with unbeliever). But it as also practical. In those days thread were made most of wool and linen/flax, mixing the two would result in a destroyed garment the first time it got wet. Without knowing the spiritual truth behind each law made many appear to be little more that needless rules. However they were designed to teach a spiritual truth. However many of the laws taught social justice and I as said in my previous post they were considered so excellent that they remain embedded in the law of many lands even today. |

333 | did Jeremiah see Jeruesalem restored | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 238703
The best estimates of the year Jeremiah died are between 609 and 600 BC.(remember with BC you count down to 0 BC) Jeremiah would have been approximately 79-88 years old. Daniel would be writing Chapter 5-6 of his Book. The restoration of Jerusalem did not start until approx 538BC with the temple being completed in around 516BC. So no Jeremiah did not live to see the Jerusalem restored. |

334 | release from Leviticus | Leviticus | EdB | 238698
The laws you talk about were statues, principals, commands and laws that were given by God to a group of people whose understanding of social conduct was learned from years of dog eat dog slavery which experienced for 400 years. Those laws in many cases separated the people from the rest of mankind so they would be special to God. Also many of the rituals and various requirements placed on them by God pointed to man's need for a Messiah. Jesus when he came fulfilled many of the rituals, rituals that were part of the LAW and with others He continued them on by saying love God with you total being, heart, mind and spirit. And love your neighbor as yourself. Hard to get into too much trouble if you follow those simple commands. So while you may view those laws as foolishness the keeping of them kept the people focused on God instead of their own self indulgence, gave them a code for social conduct that is even incorporated in the law of most countries today, and most importantly kept them focused on the need for a Messiah. That Messiah Jesus Christ came and died as payment for their sins but not their alone but for yours also. Think about that. |

335 | prayer shawl | Acts 11:19 | EdB | 238688
First a prayer shawl is used to cover the head of a person that entering into the presence of the Lord to pray. This was a Jewish custom that requires the person should cover his head to pray. This practice was carried forward into the Catholic church also. A prayer cloth is taken from Acts 11:19 where handkerchiefs were taken from Paul and given to the sick and the sick were healed. Some teach it is a touchpoint of faith that allows a persons faith touch something tangible thus increasing their faith. However it is very easy to allow oneself to treat a prayer cloth as a talisman, or with an unstated idea the power comes from the cloth instead of the Hand of God. This can be very dangerous because people are putting their trust into what they can see or handle instead of having faith. It also comes very close to putting something other than God ahead of God. Some use prayer clothes as a way to convey one's assurance that they are praying faithfully for another that isn't able to be present. |

340 | did Jesus desend to hell before Heaven? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 238663
Yes and this is confirmed in the Apostles Creed which is creed generated to teach and profess Christian truths found in scripture. First understand Hell is not Satan's playground. It is the holding place of the dead. Jesus taught of it in the Luke 16:19-31. Jesus went there to preach the Good News (gospel) to the saints held in Paradise or Abraham's bosom. He then lead captivity (those held by dead) captive to heaven. Eph 4:8. |
