283 | Thumbs and toes cut off | Judg 1:6 | stjohn | 199598
Dear Budderfligh, I don't think there is any connection between Judges 1:17 And Lev 8:24 It's seems to me, the book of Judges just reveals to us the depravity, cruelty, and unwilling heart of man to do things God's way and seek Him for our answers. Judg 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. God bless John |

284 | Who or what was sacrificed? | Judg 11:39 | stjohn | 199652
Hi God's Daughter, I've given halroy (no offense Brother) an alternative answer to contemplate, in case you didn't see it, I've lifted it from that post. Just something else to think about. I've been puzzled by this too, as I'm sure has many a child of God. After all how can it be that, God, would allow what it may look like is happening here? Surly, He, would not allow an innocent child to be burnt! Would He? God bless John ---"I think because of what God has revealed about Himself, we really "have to" look,... elsewhere, don't we? I mean, our God, defender of the innocent, protector of children, not willing that any should perish, oh no, I'm of the opinion that her life was indeed sacrificed, but certainly NOT unto death. I think her life was indeed given to the Lord, but, the lamentation was because it was so important to women in that day (or any day really) to bare children, and she remained a virgin in dedication to God. Do we really want to believe that God would allow human sacrifice? Indeed, can we, believe such an abhorrent thing would be allowed by God? I don't think so." --- |

285 | Why Saul did not recognize David? | 1 Samuel | stjohn | 189522
Hello Azure, Very good question, and very observant of you to see that. It is thought that because that David was no longer a boy and it was custom not to shave the beard, David now being full grown and with a beard, it was easy for Saul to not recognize him. God bless. John |

288 | Samuel | 1 Samuel | stjohn | 216992
Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum! Steve has answered you very well. I would however, make one minor correction. Samuel did have three bothers, (1 Sam 2:18-21) but they are not mentioned by name. So in that sense they are not mentioned. John |

289 | how long did samuel judge israel? | 1 Samuel | stjohn | 218776
Hi junix, Welcome to the forum. Is this a homework question? We don't wish to discourage you or anyone else, from visiting SBF and asking questions if you need help in understanding something in the scriptures, but we do not think we should do you research or reading for you. If you have been given a reading assignment then it would be cheating for you to ask for an answer that can be found in the reading you have been assigned to do. Cheating, is a sin, by the way. :-( Read 1 Samuel Ch, 7. clue/hint. it may be a trick question. John |

291 | what did david take from saul | 1 Sam 26:12 | stjohn | 189442
Hi ashleya, Welcome. I think this must be it. 1 Sam 26:12 So David took the spear and the jug of water from beside Saul's head, and they went away, but no one saw or knew it, nor did any awake, for they were all asleep, because a sound sleep from the LORD had fallen on them. God bless. John |

292 | sickness unto death | 2 Sam 12:20 | stjohn | 185782
Hello Christt, I', not really sure but I think it means that when someone dies it is time to stop praying because they are now in God's hands. Look what David does after praying and fasting for his son. 2 Sam 12:20 So David arose from the ground, washed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he came into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he came to his own house, and when he requested, they set food before him and he ate. So David arose from the ground, washed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he came into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he came to his own house, and when he requested, they set food before him and he ate. I hope this helps. God bless, John |

296 | Why were the high places wrong? | 2 Chr 20:33 | stjohn | 211410
Hi Leemay The very fact they were worshiping in the "high places" is testimony that they were not worshiping the true God. Indeed the very text of this verse shows us clearly that they were not. "the people had "NOT" yet directed their hearts to the God of their fathers." [emphasis in "CAPS" is mine.] God had given very explicit instructions in Leviticus as to just how He was to be approached. And He don't mess around! God bless John |

297 | who was king Darius? | Ezra 6:22 | stjohn | 198664
Hello joe, Welcome to the forum! If you read about Darius in Ezra 5-6 It looks like he may well have been a believer In 6:22 It sums it up nicely, but, although it doesn't spell it out precisely, I think I would err on the side of Grace and assume that God in turning Ezra's heart toward His people He would also turn his (Ezra's) heart toward Himself (God) as well. God bless John |

299 | How long did Job suffer? | Job 2:13 | stjohn | 214541
Hi MTV, Welcome to SBF! As far as how long he suffered before this time, or how long after this time, it is not clear to me from Scripture. but it says in, Job 2:13, "Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great." John |

300 | Comforting verse for non-believers | Psalm | stjohn | 189127
Dear sister Azure, I am sorry to hear about such a tragedy. It is very sad indeed when an unbeliever dies in the sin of unbelief. We as Christians know what our Lord said about it, John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. It is very difficult in times like this to give comfort to grieving families of unbelievers. I was asked to attend a funeral service of a friend a few years ago, and I just sat there and said nothing, wile many people said lots of kind things about him, and said that he was happy now with God because he was a good person. Afterward I felt like I had denied our lord for not telling them that he was probably in hell, and they would go too if they did not believe in Him. Its easy to say nothing, I did it but I'm sorry I did. I pray for you my sister that God gives you the words to say what He want's you to say. May God give you wisdom, peace and strength. Love in Christ. God bless. John |
