2621 | did Jesus die for our sins or sickness | 1 Pet 2:24 | CDBJ | 164002
Hello atdcross, You suggested the following in your post, “The "wages of sin is death" and no one can avoid it” The fact is, the wages of sin isn’t physical death at all but spiritual death i.e. separation from God. This death can be avoid by all who will simply trust in the work that God did in the person of His Son, Jesus the Christ. Have you ever considered that Christ actually died twice while on the cross, spiritual death and physical death? Jesus paid the price of spiritual death, which is separation from God, Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? After paying the price, that a Holy God demanded, for our sin, Jesus said the following “TETELESTAI”, it is finished; the wages for sin are paid in full. The word TETELESTAI, in the original Koine Greek, is in the indicative mood, perfect tense, passive voice, third person singular. In actuality, it was a reality, and Christ completed the action with results that will go on into the future. He alone received the wrath of God on our behalf. 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. How’s that for a great deal! Jesus took what we deserve and when we trust in Jesus God gives us His very own righteousness that is in Christ. The issue now between God and Man isn’t our sin but the Saviour. God poured out His wrath for our sin on the person of His Son Jesus. The only sin that Jesus didn’t die for was rejecting Jesus as our substitute for sin. i.e. our Saviour. John 16:7-9 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] Of sin, because they believe not on me; After Jesus had finished his work on the cross He then bowed His head and willingly released the spark of life from His body, because His work on the cross was complete. John 19:30 (B) he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. We can be born twice and die once, because Jesus was born once and died twice. Have a great day, CDBJ |

2622 | did Jesus die for our sins or sickness | 1 Pet 2:24 | CDBJ | 164014
You said the following, “Even Jesus went without experiencing hunger;” Who is right, you or, Matthew 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. As for sickness, or what ever tag you would like to put on it, the reason we get sick is because we are still at home in these bodies of death and sin is still in the world and we are still subject to the results of sin while residing in these bodies. Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? None of us will have a perfect bill of health until we are separated from these bodies of corruption. How many of the people, maintaining the same prospective that you are trying convince this forum of, celebrated their 200th birthday this year and are a picture of health? That’s what I thought, CDBJ |

I have seen so many with that misunderstanding about healing on the forum that it’s making me sick! You suggest the following. I agree we get sick; nevertheless, it is not God’s desire that we are sick and that is why healing is made available to us. God can heal everyone that He desires to heal and He doesn’t need someone as an instrument to do it! Tell your unconvincing story to Billy Graham, as well as millions of other Christians who trust all that the Lord wills for their life. What you are telling me is that you believe in God you just don’t believe God. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 1 Thes. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The Lord has given this great nation of believers some of the greatest healers in the world they call themselves doctors! The Lord has blessed us with a great variety of them as well, and the opportunity for us to pray that He will help and intercede in times of need. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. You’re starting to cause my hypertension, go up, CDBJ |

2624 | What constitutes true repentance? | 1 Pet 2:25 | CDBJ | 179397
Greetings Achilles and welcome to the forum. When you say “repent” are you referring to that which was spoken of by Christ as in Luke 13:3? Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. I want to make sure we are both on the same page. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

2625 | Was Jesus a captive? | 1 Pet 3:19 | CDBJ | 21960
I think that there is something that is being missed when one considers the word death in the Bible. The Greek language of the New Testament uses the word (THANATOS) and a good explanation for thanatos, would be separation. Psychical thanatos meant that your soul separated form your body. Spiritual death meant that you are separated from God. It doesn't mean that there is no more existence, as is commonly the case in the understanding of the English language. Quite the contrary is true; everyone is going to live forever in one place or the other and be conscious that they are there. Luke 16:19-31 The individual that Jesus was speaking of was in all probability a real person, as Christ never used a proper noun in His parables. It is interesting to note the senses that were functioning in this individual, whose body was gone. The only one not mentioned was the sense of smell. Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. I don't know if this helps but it will give something to think about. CDBJ |

2626 | Was Jesus a captive? | 1 Pet 3:19 | CDBJ | 21977
Jesus did have a spirit; He commended it to the Father. The word commended is a verb indicative, present, middle 1st person singular of the word paratathemai. The indicative mood is the mood of reality or certainty; the present tense is generally continues action at present time, in the middle voice the subject Jesus participates in the result of the action. He was committing the guarding of His spirit to the father for safekeeping. When God told Adam that he was going to die the very day that he would eat of forbidden fruit, what died? He was body, soul and spirit from the beginning. What did Jesus mean when He said that a man must be born again? John 3:5-9 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? It appears that I got along for twenty seven years with out a my spirit being connected to God; But I had no communication in any of my earlier years. |

2627 | How Does Baptism Save? | 1 Pet 3:21 | CDBJ | 75526
Greetings srprimeaux, and welcome to the forum. You almost make it sound like you have put all your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and what he did for your salvation instead of trusting a little bit in some thing that you did, like baptism. I’m just pulling your chain you have it right and stick to it. You seem pretty sound for only having known the Lord for five years. You will run into many different types on this forum and not all are saved by biblical standards. Don’t let any sway you from a solid undivided faith in Jesus and you will fair out well. Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Notice in verse 21; but he that doeth the will of my Father? People are always trying to explain what the will of God is and the works we should be doing in order to have salvation; such things like baptism, keeping the law etc. you name it. Jesus tells us very plainly the work that the Father wants us to do, and none of the assumed human efforts are listed. There was a well-meaning group that assumed they had to do something to be recognized in God’s eyes so they ask Jesus a question. John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. No baptism, no law, no self-righteousness, Jesus is saying in effect God doesn’t need your help to save you all you need to do is get your thinking straight and completely trust in the one God sent, His Son. With a plan like that Jesus gets all the credit and we can take none of the credit ourselves because of something we did. Have a nice Day, CDBJ |

2628 | How Does Baptism Save? | 1 Pet 3:21 | CDBJ | 75583
Greetings, It’s good to hear your testimony and how you came to Christ. I always have liked the story of Martin Luther and the struggle he went through before the Lord revealed the truth to him. He had tried every thing imaginable and could never gain the assurance of his salvation, until the Lord revealed to him the following Scripture. Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. There will be many that will try to dissuade you from faith along in Christ along but stand fast. Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. There are many that have gone this route and the possibility is there or Paul wouldn’t have given the admonition. Some sure give convincing arguments, with Scripture, but when this happens we have to fall back on the simple truth of the gospel. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. I sure am glad that Paul used only the word believeth in this verse because it boils off all of the dross that man would like to add and leaves nothing but the pure fact. I always like to share a portion of truth found in the book of John regarding the whole reason behind John writing his book. John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. That verse 31 sure eliminates all of the extracurricular activity that people like to add. Keep up the study habit and, 1 Thes. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. CDBJ |

Hi Sniper, I love it when people use that verse to try and prove there position on works but one needs to back up a little to keep it in context. James 2:22-24 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Did you notice the word SEEST at the start of verse 22 then again in verse 24, YE SEE? The next time you get a chance measure out 3 cubic feet of faith and tell me what it weighs. Or better still, cut off a nice long piece and give us the measurement of how long it is, please don’t use metrics because a lot of us have trouble with that. Pretty soon you will realize that we cant fathom exactly what faith is all we can do is experience it’s results. I believe the Lord taught me a good illustration with regards to faith and works. It seems strange but it get the point across with the analogy. The illustration is that FAITH is to poison ivy, as WORKS are to scratching. Example, If you have true faith in Jesus Christ, it will manifest it's self outwardly. Just like the one that has poison ivy, they are going to scratch, they can't help it, it’s the nature of the dumb stuff. If you have poison ivy on you, you just can’t help it, you’re going to scratch; I’m speaking from experience! Now let say that a person DOESN"T have poison ivy, they could scratch till they look lobster red, yet all of that useless scratching isn’t going to give them poison ivy. They have to come in contact with the vine to get it. The vine in this illustration would be Jesus and faith in him. People can go through all the motions and do all the things that a true believer dose and make all of the proper noises but they are still not under the influence of the one who causes the works to come out of the believer in the first place; they are pseudo believers and there will come a day when the Lord will say I never knew you. The verse that says faith with out works is dead it true because if one has the faith the works will manifest themselves by the fruit that is producing. But there again Jesus said in John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Hi sniper, the “You see” is for our benefit not God’s; he knows if a person has the proper faith, we don’t know unless we see something that exhibits the fact. From your post it sounds like you are putting a lot of emphasis on baptism. Which came first complete trust in Jesus work, as payment for our sin, or the baptism, and what happens if the person drops over dead before they had a chance to be baptized after they believe? Don’t get the cart before the horse, notice the prerequisite for baptism. Acts 8:36 B See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? Another way to put it is, is there any reason why I shouldn’t be baptized. The next verse shows what must precede baptism. Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The eunuch came up with the right answer so Philip baptized him. A lot of people are trusting in their baptism with water to help save them and Jesus doesn’t like to share the praise with someone’s assumptions. Have a nice day, CDBJ |

Dear disciplerami, you have a real finesse when it comes to getting your point across. “You ought not put on that superior tone when you know NOTHING of his faith prior to his obedience.” Those of us on the forum are so blessed having you on the forum to educate on the finer point of Bible doctrine since we know NOTHING as you put it. I don’t know how we possible managed all these years with out you since you seem to be the only one with any knowledge of the Bible. Please continue on and insult more of us so we can appreciate you so much more! Is this a technique that you learned in seminary or was it developed during your 17years as a minister or missionary? I am not that well versed on the topic of discussion, I would just appreciate it if you would go a little easer on the forum members with concern for their opinions and feelings. There are some very nice people on this forum and most are smarter then I am on many different doctrines. I just thought that you were inconsiderate of Joe’s feelings by the derogatory remark that was pointed directly at him; that’s all I have to say. In love, Chuck |

2633 | When were Cornelius and comapny saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | CDBJ | 113715
Hello Rowdy, According to your definition for salvation you might not be saved yet; what if you are overlooking one of God’s commands, legally, by what you have said that might be the case? Maybe you are overlooking 17 of God’s commands by the way, how many are there, I have never heard the exact amount. Have you actually sold all of your positions yet and given the money to the poor? It sounds like you still trying to do something so you can have eternal life? Matthew 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? It doesn’t look like you have sold everything yet because you are still on the Internet! Food for thought, don’t you think? It sounds like you sure are trying hard but how are you actually doing according to God’s standard, he does have a standard you know? Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. You better forget the work mentioned in James until you get the gift. It sound like you are putting the cart before the horse, and you haven’t even got a horse yet. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; With all your keeping and doing and trying where does grace fit into the picture or is grace no longer grace? Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that NOT OF YOURSELVES: it is the GIFT of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. You are trying to do something to get the GIFT, and in that case it won’t be a gift; you are going to receive wages and the only wages we can receive is death. That doesn’t sound like good new to me, CDBJ |

2635 | CONDITIONAL ETERNAL SECURITY | 2 Pet 1:10 | CDBJ | 62580
Greetings Pastor Glenn; Some like to use this verse to show that it is possible for a believer to lose their salvation. Yet they don’t take into consideration that if that is the case that person would be eternally lost without any hope of being saved again, i.e. they can’t be saved again because of what it says in verse 6. Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, [5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For it is IMPOSSIBLE to renew them again unto repentance, because: They crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. The if clause in verse 6 is the second class condition in the Greek which mean in effect that it is not true, I.e. they can’t In the Greek it reads as follows emphasizing the second class condition. If they shall fall away, which they can’t, because they can’t crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. CDBJ |

Hi Tim, it has been a while since we have been on the same thread together, it’s good to hear from you. I think the whole crux of the situation in Hebrews 6 is answered in verse 9. The use of the contrastive conjunction (DE) but beloved, puts the recipients in a different category. Hebrews 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. It is interesting that the writer uses the word (PAITHO) translated persuaded. It is saying in effect that they have convinced the writer that they were saved by what they did after they were saved. This is further expounded in James, i.e. the things that accompany salvation. James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Tim, the last part of your post is interesting to me in that it points out to me a group, of so call Christians, that do this very thing every Sunday in their service. You said, Or, to state the case more briefly, the verse can be translated: "It is impossible to renew them to repentance while they are crucifying to themselves the Son of God and while they are subjecting Him to public disgrace." Is this possible or am I reading something into this that isn’t what it seems, without mentioning any denominational names? If you would rather, send me an e-mail. I am trying to walk easy hear, I hope, CDBJ |

2640 | Passage may say some born cannot be save | 2 Pet 2:9 | CDBJ | 200583
Hi Granny, The only Scriptures that I can think of where one was actually born predestined to receive God’s wrath are the verses referring to Jesus. Jesus was bore to suffer the wrath of God for our sins so that we may spend everlasting life with God. John 12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. You might be thinking of the following but I believe Doc pointed it out to you already? Romans 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: I know the frustration of not finding the exact Scripture to fit the mental thoughts. I sure hope you enjoy the forum though, CDBJ |
