261 | Money box of Jesus | John 12:6 | BradK | 223296
Hello 00123, Welcome to the Forum! John 12:6 does not give any detail or say how much was in the moneybag! So, to guess would simply be speculative and go beyond what is written. (1 Cor. 4:6) Why does it matter? On the other hand, what support can you provide from scripture that "Jesus was in fact financially very rich"? This is pure conjecture! To what "usual understanding" do you refer? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

263 | Can people be hristian and stay at home | Heb 10:25 | BradK | 223149
Hello Robertie, Well, for starters, they're only kidding themselves if they honestly think and believe such a thing. They're in rebellion against the Word of God (Heb. 10:25). There is "wisdom in a multitude of counselors", not by oneself! Prov 19:20 says, "Listen to counsel and accept discipline That you may be wise the rest of your days." (NASB) I'd strongly suggest that these "many people" prayerfully read the entire Word of God- several times if necessary- and then talk to them. Among other things already wisely said, the Christian life is not about being the Lone Ranger! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

264 | Is there a Church of Christ member here? | Bible general Archive 4 | BradK | 223125
Hello bjaneb, I attend a local "Christian Church" in the Northwest. However, we're not a Church of Christ, though (our) historical roots are the Church of Christ. If I may, why do you ask? BradK |

266 | Main characteristics of early churches | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 223032
Hello conyerswonda, This sounds like a test question? You might be served by picking up a copy of a work on Church History. A classic by Phillip Schaff is quite lengthy while the more recent work by Bruce Shelley more abbreviated! For a summary on central beliefs, the Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed are available online @ www.creeds.net. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

267 | Reaching Perfection | 1 John 3:2 | BradK | 222902
Hello Inquistitor, If you don't mind me asking, are you an then adherent of solo scriptura? Do you discard any and all creeds, confessions of the Church or Church fathers? I don't beleive any of us are claiming to be inspired in the way the apostles were when they penned scripture. We believe the Bible to be the Word of God, inerrant, verbal plenary inspired and authoritative to us in our faith and practice. Nor do I believe any of us are saying that we hold the word of man to a higher degree than God's Word. But, we're also not discarding the value of what many godly men have been influenced through their study and illumined by the Holy Spirit to say! (Heb. 13:7) BradK |

269 | Becoming a christian | John 6:37 | BradK | 222887
Hello inquisitor, May I say, we need to consider the "whole counsel of scripture" in determining a doctrine. Notice you said, " but other folks on TV and some of my friends keep on adding the verses about baptism." It matters not what folks on TV or friends, add, but "what saith the scripture" (Rom. 4:3) As F.F. Bruce notes in his work "The Canon of Scripture", "It is not enough to say 'the Bible says...' without at the same time considering to whom the Bible says it, and in what circumstances." What does the entirety of scripture teach aboout baptism? Read the book of Romans- especially the first 4 chapters. Note Eph. 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." Read the 11th chapter of Hebrews- faith's "hall of fame". Notice the phrase, "by faith..." It is not about "by baptism", is it? Our great cloud of witnesses all were commended for their faith. 271 | God kill the most people | Rom 9:14 | BradK | 222869
Hello dusty3, You appear to be making a statement, not posing a question? Was there a point to your comment? Rom. 9:14-16 reads: Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! Rom 9:15 For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." Rom 9:16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. (NASB) Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

Hello smoothone50, By faith! Rom 3:28 "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law." (NASB) Rom 5:1 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," BradK |

274 | Are those two scriptures in conflict wit | Eph 6:2 | BradK | 222776
Hello hoodrat, You cannot take the statement from Ps. 27:10- in isolation- as a absolute directive! Go back and read, re-read and meditate upon Rom. 12 passage. There is much more specific directive found there! Also, Eph. 6:2 speaks to your circumstances. Remember Prov. 3:5-6 Prov 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. Prov 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. I encourage you to pray for the Lords' wisdom and guideance and that He would lead you to a place of forgiveness towards your parents (despite what they have done) and an understanding of how to respond. 275 | A cripple or blind Pastor should'nt be? | Lev 21:24 | BradK | 222772
Hello humility, I think you may have answered your question:-) God was speaking to Moses... It's important to keep in mind the context when studying a passage. Who's speaking, who's being spoken to, and what's being spoken about. Note vs. 16, "Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying," (NASB) Then, vs. 17, "Speak to Aaron, saying,..." Finally, vs 24, "So Moses spoke to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel." (NASB) This would not- IMO- be a command to us, the Body of Christ! As far as NT support, I think Paul sums it up in Rom. 6:14, " For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace." Also, Col. 2:8ff. I hope this helps, BradK |

276 | IS IT POSSIBLE TO ATTAIN THE RIGHTOUSNES | Rom 5:1 | BradK | 222770
Hello wendyfaye, The answer is" By Faith! Rom. 3:26 tells us, "for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."(NASB) Then, in Rom. 4:3-5 Paul states, Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness," (NASB) Further, in Rom. 5:1 we have the concluding result "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

278 | I know Ephesians 6: 1-2 tells you to hon | Eph 6:2 | BradK | 222763
Hello hoodrat, I empathize with you. You're not wrong to struggle with this- simply human:-) Eph. 6:2-3 instructs, "HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU," (NASB) It doesn't qualify by saying "if we feel like it" or "if our parents were kind to us", etc. We do this because we are commanded to do so by the Lord- even despite the circumstances! Only as we are transformed by the renewal of our minds, and conformed to the image of Christ can we deal with these matters as God intends. May you meditate upon Rom. 12:14-21. Rom 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rom 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Rom 12:17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. Rom 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Rom 12:19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord. Rom 12:20 "BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD." Rom 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. May the Lord strengthen you and give you the wisdom to continue to strive in loving and honoring your parents- to His glory! 279 | Bless the name of Jesus too? | Ps 113:2 | BradK | 222757
Hello karis05, You are correct that we are told- as in Psalm 113:2, "Blessed be the name of the LORD From this time forth and forever." (NASB) There is no verse with the exact words, "bless the name of Jesus". In the NT, Luke 1:68 says, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people," Rom. 1:25 states, "...the Creator, who is blessed forever..." I hope this helps, BradK |

280 | Timothy says no women to teach? | 1 Tim 2:12 | BradK | 222731
Hello popcorn, As this question has been asked many times you may benefit by the "Search" box at upper Right hand corner. The verse reads, "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet." (NASB) It's not merely cultural as Paul qualifies it by the following in vs. 13ff, "For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
