God's day to you chop, and welcome to the SBF, I believe it is both. We need to turn to God whether we are being tempted or otherwise suffering. For temptation 1 Corinthians 10:13 is one of the verses (and most used) ... but read the context. For suffering 1 Peter 4:12-19 may be a good place to start. I like what John MacArthur, Jr. said ... it is our attitude ... we are not to be surprised when trouble comes ... rejoice in bad times (or good). ... evaluate it - how it fits in His plan ... trust Him http://www.eternallifeministries.org/jm_suf1.htm Searcher |

249 | The woman of Matthew | Matt 27:56 | Searcher56 | 229658
God's day to you, desjen and welcome to the SBF, In Matt 27:55, it says there were many women, vesre 56 names two of them, but not the third. Matthew names five women: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, the wife of Uriah (Bathsheba), and Mary, the mother of Jesus in the first chapter. My answer to why he only names certain woman is that God inspired him and he knew his audience. Ask more questions and share, Searcher |

250 | Did God create light twice? | Gen 1:3 | Searcher56 | 229656
God's day to you, SHST, and welcome to the SBF ... Young's Literal Translation says In verses 1-4 ... "In the beginning of God's preparing the heavens and the earth --(2) the earth hath existed waste and void, and darkness is on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God fluttering on the face of the waters, (3) and God saith, 'Let light be;' and light is. (4) And God seeth the light that it is good, and God separateth between the light and the darkness, (5) and God calleth to the light 'Day,' and to the darkness He hath called 'Night;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day one." Verses 14-19, says "And God saith, 'Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years (15) and they have been for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth:' and it is so. (16) And God maketh the two great luminaries, the great luminary for the rule of the day, and the small luminary -- and the stars -- for the rule of the night; (17) and God giveth them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth, (18) and to rule over day and over night, and to make a separation between the light and the darkness; and God seeth that it is good; (19) and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fourth. There are several possibilities. For me, on day first the light had no purpose, God separated the light and darkness ... on day fourth, now the luminaries made the separation as well as other purposes. Scripture ... Mat 3:5-6; Mar 1:5; Luk 3:21; Jhn 3:23 ... God's day to you, easynan, and welcome to the SBF, Based on the words (not) used, I would say yes. 254 | trans word intensify amp how emp preva | Acts 19:20 | Searcher56 | 229637
growing mightily and prevailing grew and spread and intensified, prevailing mightily I think the Amplified added intensified to mightily beause the Greek has both (that are listed as mightily): kata (Strong's 2596): down (higher to a lower plane), against, according to kratos (Strong's 2903): strength, might In the Greek order it is: so mightily mightily the Lord of word was growing and was prevailing The order is important, since the more importtant words ar listed first ... but too hard for most to understand, because it is that the way we speak. Source: http://biblos.com/acts/19-20.htm (Interlinear) Select parallel to see other translations. My brother is right, we don't always know why translators chose the words they do. I hope I helped. 255 | Why Do We Stand Aloof ... or Not? | Obad 1:11 | Searcher56 | 229620
Okay ... I have a couple ... let me know if you agree or not. -David to Mephibosheth (2 Sam 9). While it was motivated by David's love for Jonathan (and their covenant) (1Sa 18:1-3, 20:41-42; 2Sa 1:25-26). -Jonathan to David (1Sa 20). David was THE threat to the throne, which Jonathan was in line for. -Naaman's wife's servant girl and Naaman (2Ki 5:3). Another example of an unnamed person, mentioned in only one verse, who made an impact (2Ki 5). -The father of the Prodigal Son and his younger son (Luk 5:20-32). Love is the motivation ... it probably was not normal, then or even now. Searcher |

Scripture ... 2Sa 11:1-12:24 ... God's day to you, juancito, If you read the account (2Sa 11-12), you could surmise that David had a one night stand with Bathsheba (2Sa 11:4), and when Nathan came to him he confessed right away and it was just once (2Sa 12:13). Based on all the events, including the child's death (2Sa 12:19), it would be impossible to be a year, even 39 weeks. Searcher |

257 | meaning of the word Balaam | Rev 2:14 | Searcher56 | 229612
Scripture … Num 22:5-24:25, Deu 23:4-25, 2Pe 2:15, Jud 1:11, Rev 2:14 … God's day to you, Bronco37, and welcome to the SBF, The root meaning for the word Balaam (Strong's Number: 1109) has been long thought meant "not of the people" based on two words in the Hebrew: -Bal, an adverb (Strong's Number: 1077) meaning not, hardly, else (in turn, its root is Balah, a verb (Strong's Number: 1086) meaning include to wear out, become old) - am, a noun masculine (Strong's Number: 5971) meaning nation, people (in turn, its root is amam, a verb, meaning to dim, darken, grow dark) Some think Balaam means "Swallowing Up (Destroying) The People" ... am (nation, people) should be combined with bala, a verb (Strong's Number: 251) meaning swallow up or down. Decide which you like by reading Balaam’s actions (Num 22:5-24:25) and some of the references back to them (Deu 23:4-25, 2Pe 2:15, Jud 1:11, Rev 2:14). 258 | Why Do We Stand Aloof ... or Not? | Obad 1:11 | Searcher56 | 229599
I am preparing for my Sunday School lesson. As I read Obadiah 1:11, I see Edom stood aloof when strangers carried off Judah wealth. I thought about the Good Samaritan (Luk 10:25-37), where a priest and then a Levite come by, but both avoided the man … but the Samaritan took action. Are there other Biblical examples where the unexpected happened either taking no action or taking action? Also, why don't we help our neighbor ... from saving thier life, even to our peril ... to giving directions to one who seems lost? Searcher |
