241 | Misplaced zeal? | 1 Pet 2:12 | charis | 30233
Dear Jesusman, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I agree with you about Christians showing forth a worldly attitude. Indeed, we cannot preach about freedom from evil when we act evil ourselves! But what about this? Those Christians whose 'religious zeal' (as compared to Christian charity, service and humility) is a nuisance, causing the Gentiles to be 'turned away' from Christ because of self-righteousness or judgmentalism. Could this also fall into the same category? In either case, insensitive and self-serving (un-excellent behavior!) Christians can cause more damage than help to the furthering of the Gospel. 242 | False prophets glorify God? | 1 Pet 2:12 | charis | 30381
Dear Steve, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I am not quite sure what you are saying. (but feel free to vent! we all do! :-)) Are you saying that God uses even the false prophets for His glory? If so, I would respectfully disagree. I see many Christian zealots doing great damage to the name of Christ and the credibility of the church. The fact that some DO find the Lord through these 'ministries' is only God's grace to those with faith, not an attribute of the questionable (or downright wrong) teaching. My point is that though God can use charlatans and buffoons to touch a few, many more are turned away from God, sometimes irreversibly. Some even become campaigners against Christ because of these antics of 'zeal.' So... zeal must be tempered with knowlege (as Hank pointed out below) or our 'un-excellent' behavior can be a detriment to the church. In Christ Jesus, charis |

245 | ...by His grace, right? | 2 Peter | charis | 1109
...by His grace, right? jg8ball, I couldn't help adding this to the end of your note. It IS true, even if it is not Election with a capital 'E' (...which rhymes with 'P' which means 'Pool!' Sorry, we were watching "The Music Man" the other day :-) In any case, I fully expect to see jg8ball and JVH0212 together as brethren someday in His glorious eternity. That's my point. I cannot discard wholesale either opinion or bent, and I cannot endorse in the Lord any capital 'X' doctrine. How then should we live? Excommunicating one another is an option, but I don't think it is Godly. Discussion, prayer, humility, repentance toward God, and fellowship of the saints is the option I choose. With love in Christ Jesus.
246 | Unexpected source? | 2 Pet 3:16 | charis | 34413
Dear JMSCOTT, Greetings once again, in Jesus' name! I don't recall saying that you were belittling the Holy Spirit. I don't have pages missing from my Bible, because God has seen to it that we have the whole counsel of God in His Word and in His church, all throught the unction of the Holy Spirit! Friend, you seem to have a 'divine revelation' that no one else has. Could you let us in on it? What is the 'name' you keep referring to? Is it the Lord Jesus Christ? If it is, then you speak in accord with the Bible, the church, and the Spirit that dwells within me. However, you seem to be saying there is an 'unexpected source' that I should seek for. Would you name that source, please? Then maybe this discussion will move on to the point. Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

247 | Whatever we want? | 1 John 5:15 | charis | 7041
Dear saints in the Lord, Does this verse mean that God will give us whatever we want? Is this the 'prosperity Gospel?' In Jesus' name, charis |

248 | How then should we live? | Jude 1:21 | charis | 5984
Saints, Are we not to "wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life."? I see so much focus on identifying people, places and situations in the end time through prophecy. Like so many of the messianic prophesies, we don't know! We will know when it happens, and probably not before. Even if we know bits and pieces beforehand, we are not capable of knowing the whole picture, as it has been hidden from us, and will remain hidden from us until God reveals it, at that time. The majority of this end time speculation is fruitless and meaningless, and only divides us, steering us away from serving the Lord in fellowship now. Who's at war with whom? Where will Jesus 'touch down?' When and where will the next earthquake hit? What are fingers, toes, feathers, horns, heads, tails, ears, noses, and elbows? None of the answers to these questions changes how we should live one whit. Because how we should live is in the love of God, waiting anxiously (not in anxiety or division) for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. How then should we live? In Jesus' name, charis |

249 | Are you kidding? | Revelation | charis | 1137
Elijah, are you kidding? No one has ever done it, but maybe I can help you? I hope you are saying that we can discuss it here and maybe clarify some specific areas through this forum. Yes there are lots of commentaries, but the best is the Bible. Take your time. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. A study Bible will give you a good start. Click one of the tabs at the top of this page. My own advice: if someone professes to 'understand' the Book of Revelation, watch out! Ask if they are affiliated with the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventists, the Unification Church (Moonies),or any other cult. Look at their eyes when they answer! May the Lord lead your path, and guard your soul in Him. In Christ Jesus.
250 | Explanation acceptable? | Revelation | charis | 1353
So, HeirofGod, was my (possible) explanation of how cults view the 144k acceptable? Your use of 'virgins' was number 4 in my Websters, so correct, but a bit unorthodox :-) I also understand a bit about these people, but certainly not ALL. Blessings in Christ Jesus.
251 | Empty Justification? | Revelation | charis | 36047
Dear Jesusman, Greetings to you in Jesus' name! I am a bit confused by this post. Are you saying that the work on the Cross is but general payment for sin, but there is no specific (personal) payment *applied* or *activated* until this final judgement? So where is justification? Would this mean that we are 'counted as righteous' as only possible or potential? With all due respect, this sounds suspiciously similar to the 'Bean-Counter in Heaven' God that was proposed to me when I first got saved. A brother said something to the effect that our salvation experience was nothing but a 'trial offer' through which we might make it to the 'finals' but only a few made to the 'podium.' Sounds like the Olympics! :-) You cited several Biblical 'judgements' in your post. Are these also 'preliminaries?' Are the saints of the Old Testament and New Testament still not assured of their salvation? Or do we have a 'voucher' that assures us that we WILL pass the test, but it is just not yet 'finalized.' (quote from D.D.Eisenhower, "My conclusion is not yet finalized." This statement was considered to be governmental gobbledegook) I look forward to your answer. Peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

252 | Lure or Norse demon? | Rev 19:4 | charis | 997
Dear dlnash. Great answer! You had more courage than I to study about the Urantia baloney (bologna?). Thank you. By the bye, How did you mean 'troll?' I suspect you meant 'lure.' Bring it to the light, friend. (could you have meant Norse demon?) In Christ Jesus.
253 | Who knows? | Rev 21:27 | charis | 7363
Dear saints, The Lamb's book of life. I think it is agreed that the book of life was written 'from the foundation of the world.' I have seen many acrid arguments about whose name is written and-or not written in it. My question is, "Who knows?" The obvious answer is, "Only God knows." Does anyone have a better answer? If not, then all of the 'spitting venom and caterwauling' is moot. As far as I can see, God has not chosen to share with us this knowledge. We have a job to live in Him, and encourage others to do so by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I see that a lot of Christians are wasting their precious time with the pursuit of pure theory (and fancy) rather than studying God (theology). If we know about God, we wil know how to live in Him, and with His people. "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10 KJV. If the result of our study is division, strife, and unfruitful speculation, then we are serving the thief. If the result of our study is unity, fellowship and love, then we are serving the Lord.
