226 | how can Jesus be son of David | NT general | srbaegon | 207888
Hello mudd, In a legal sense, this is accomplished by being adopted by a man who was descended from David (i.e. Joseph). In a natural sense, this is accomplished by being born to a virgin who was descended from David (i.e. Mary). Steve |

227 | Ephraim never accepted Judaism ! | Matt 15:24 | srbaegon | 207830
Hello ohmi, Deut 28:64 does not prove that "the House of Israel are clearly Israelites and equally clearly were separate from the House of Judah and rejected Judaism, serving other gods to this day"? Since the rest of your post is based on this verse which speaks nothing of what you say, I will address your five concluding items only. 1. The northern tribes referred to as Israel ceased as a political entity. 2. How do you know what the "House of Israel" did if they were carried into captivity? 3. Scripture plainly states that the faithful of each tribe left Israel to dwell in Judah (2 Chron 11:13-17). Your statement is cannot be correct. 4. So by inference, you are saying we should never share the gospel with Gentiles. The apostle Paul would disagree. 5. I'm not sure what you are getting at. Steve |

228 | Jesus sent only to the House of Israel? | Matt 15:24 | srbaegon | 207820
Hello ohmi, First, there is no such thing as a "[non-Jewish, but Israelite] House of Israel." To answer your question, the Lord Jesus went to His own and offered them the kingdom as their messiah, but they rejected Him. In the future, He will establish again a covenant with Israel (Jer 31:31-34), but it will be new in form and scope. Steve |

229 | Where and when did Gentiles originate? | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 207801
Hello Katherine65, As you read on the Forum, everybody not a Jew is a Gentile. So yes, Muslims, Hindus, etc. are Gentiles. Jews were set apart from the rest of mankind when God called Abram from Ur of the Chaldees to make a people for Himself. Steve |

232 | Saul Conjured up Prophesied from Dead? | 1 Sam 28:14 | srbaegon | 207300
Bowler, As a friendly note . . . A truly humble and worthless person would not be telling us in each post what a humble and worthless person he is. Your constant inclusion of that makes you appear to be as one of the hypocrites that do it to be seen of men (Matt 6:1-18). Steve |

233 | Saul Conjured up Prophesied from Dead? | 1 Sam 28:14 | srbaegon | 207299
Hello bowler, First, Samuel was the one conjured up from the dead. Second, if Scripture says it happened, then it happened. This should not be so disturbing. Another case of the dead among the living was Moses on the mount with Jesus and Elijah. Now I can understand being more comfortable because God Himself would have done that, and it would have been within His purview. Here, a witch/medium does that work. I do not claim to understand why the Lord allowed it, but He did. Steve |

234 | Jesus and Children as Paedobaptism? | Mark 10:14 | srbaegon | 207298
Hello bowler, You have begun with speculation and continued with presumption. Let's go through your post. "Here we have Jesus saying do not hinder the children from coming to Him. If I am not mistaken Jesus was referring to more than just children coming to sit on His lap, or get a hug. He seems to be saying, that children, at least in His day, were receiving the kingdom of God, were getting saved?" The idea being brought out is the simple faith and trust being displayed in Him, which is what the Lord desires for His own children. I don't think that the childrens' salvation, as such, is the topic. "How come then, we now do not permit children to be baptized?" Who prohibits a believing child from being baptized? Not me, therefore "we" are not doing this--only a portion. As for the rest, you'll have to interact with a paedobaptist to get an answer. Steve |

235 | What Happened to The 70 Disciples? | Luke 10:1 | srbaegon | 207297
Hello bowler, Since the events of John 6 precede those of Luke 10, they could not have left at that time. To answer your question, Scripture says they returned (Luke 10:17-24) but does not say what happened to them afterward; although one might assume they were part of the 500 that saw Jesus after the resurrection (1 Cor 15:6). 236 | Eve | Gen 2:18 | srbaegon | 207181
Hello and welcome, I think the context demonstrates that Adam was the ultimate authority: 1. He was responsible for keeping the garden. 2. He was given the command of what to eat and not eat. 3. He was responsible for naming the animals. 4. Eve was made as a helper, not the responsible party. From the context we see there was a measure of equality: 1. Eve was a suitable or corresponding helper. That means she needed to be equal in some ways in order to fulfill that. 2. Eve carries the Imago Dei (God's image) as much as Adam. The conclusion is that Eve was subordinate in sphere of authority but not in status. Steve |

237 | What does Psalm 36:11 mean? | Ps 36:11 | srbaegon | 207143
Hello and welcome, John Calvin had a good thought on this: 11. Let not the foot of pride come upon me As I have observed a little before, the Psalmist here applies to his own circumstances the prayer which he had offered. But by including in his prayer in the preceding verse all the children of God, he designed to show that he asked nothing for himself apart from others, but only desired that as one of the godly and upright, who have their eyes directed to God, he might enjoy his favor. He has employed the expressions, the foot of pride,* and the hand of the wicked, in the same sense. As the wicked rush boldly to the destruction of good men, lifting up their feet to tread upon them, and having their hands ready to do them wrong, David entreats God to restrain their hands and their feet; and thus he confesses that he is in danger of being exposed to their insolence, abuse, and violence, unless God come speedily to his aid. * That is, the foot of the proud man, as the Chaldee translates it, the thing being put for the person in whom it is; a mode of expression of frequent occurrence in Scripture. Thus deceit, in Proverbs 12:27, is put for a deceitful man; poverty, in 2 Kings 24:14, for poor people, etc. There appears to be here an allusion to the ancient practice of tyrants in treading upon their enemies, or in spurning those who offended them from their presence with their feet. 240 | should a christian pay tithe? | 2 Cor 9:7 | srbaegon | 207091
Hello, According to the gospel, no. 2 Cor 9:6-8 (ESV) The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. I would encourage you to read 2 Cor 8:1-9:15 to get Paul's teaching on this. Steve |
