21 | tribulation brings about perseverance | Rom 5:3 | leonore | 114379
Thank you Emmaus, I am a new christian and I'm in awe of how much help God has given us in his word. I think I understand your answer if it is that when we make it through the persecutions we will have learned more patience and have a stronger hope. :)
22 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114363
Can someone please explain this scripture a little more? I get the basic meaning but am looking for more understanding.
23 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114380
I have only been a christian since October but, I can already see that what you said is true. I appreciate this site so much because we can speak to people like yourself who have more experience and knowledge. As a new christian I have so many questions and it's good to have somewhere I can go for answers. I really appreciate the additional scriptures also. I'm going to go look them up right now!
24 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114465
I appreciate your advice very much. I am overwhelmed and exited about how much I have to learn. Last night I was just reading from different books in the bible. They used to just be a jumble to me, and I found so much wisdom there. I felt like "how could I have been missing all this?" I love being able to read what people say that have so much more experience than I do, but, it's like you said, it's hard for me to tell which information is true. I will do like you said and look everything up in the bible myself and pray. This is not a easy journey to start but, I know there is nothing more important than knowing God and understanding his plan for us. Thanks again for the encouragement.
25 | possible for God to turn his back on Jes | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114468
As a new christian sometimes I feel I have so many questions and I don't want to bother my pastor too much. I thank God that I've found somewhere that when I have a question I have somewhere to come. I have a question from my pastor's message today. He was telling us about Jesus' suffering on the cross. He was telling us how it was so much more than physical suffering and how he took on all our sins. The part I didn't understand was when he said God had to turn his back on Jesus. It kind of confused me because since Jesus is God I don't understand how that's possible. Do you have any scriptures that can help me to understand?
26 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114751
How can I tell you how much your answer has helped me. It has taken me a while to go through all the information you put in your answer. All the scriptures given, were so deep and full of information that they took time to ponder on and it helped me understand and put together the whole thought. It really helped me to understand! I never realized how you could learn so much from one scripture. Thank you and thank you for the story about your friend in Ghana. :)
27 | what meant by "still helpless"? | Rom 5:6 | leonore | 114746
What does Paul mean by "while we were still helpless" ?
28 | Does sin use the law or benefit from it? | Rom 7:5 | leonore | 121030
This scripture and also verse 8 are confusing to me. How are sinful passions aroused by the law? and in verse 8 how does sin take opportunity through the commandment? Thank you!
29 | Does sin use the law or benefit from it? | Rom 7:5 | leonore | 121060
Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. You also helped me with some other questions I had or had been thinking about. I had a hard time understanding v.13 but the translation you have made it much easier. Also what you said about no one being able to look at the demands of the law and then their own lives can say that we don't deserve condemnation. I was just thinking last night about what I would do if I had to stand before God without Christ's atonement. There would be nothing I could say to explain away my sins. I would be guilty and deserving of condemnation. Thanks so much for talking so clearly and giving scriptures on things I am barely beginning to understand!
30 | need help understanding this scripture | Rom 7:13 | leonore | 121031
What does it mean here by "Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good"? This seems very complicated and I would appreciate any input. Thank you!
31 | Thank you! Just need to understand littl | Rom 7:13 | leonore | 121036
Thank you very much. Your note helped me to understand this passage more clearly. I still have a couple of questions, I understand how the law causes us to know what sin is. I don't really understand how sin appropriates the law. I also still don't understand the part of the scripture that says "by effecting my death through that which is good". I'm sorry to be so insistant on understanding these phrases but, I've been studying Romans for a couple months now. It's the first book I've studied and I keep in mind 2 Timothy 3:16 when it says that "all scripture is inspired by God" so I try to understand as much of it as I can. Thank you!
32 | meaning of according to the flesh? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121029
What does it mean to live according to the flesh? Does this scripture mean that if we continue to sin or repeat the same sin over and over we will die? This scripture confused me because it seems to be saying that works have an affect on whether we have eternal life or not. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding the scripture. I am a fairly new Christian and sometimes it's hard for me to understand. Thank you!
33 | can you explain a little more? thanks | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121038
Thank you very much for these scriptures. I am going to take the time to read them thoroughly.I really appreciate the information you have given me. I'm having a hard time seeing the difference, as you said, with the works of the law and the changes that are expected from accepting Christ. The thing is it seems like the changes that are expected from accepting Christ are that you will be following a lot of the law,(do not lie, kill, steal, etc...) and if you're not than you're not really saved? It almost seems like a contradiction to say being saved is a free gift but, we have to be active participants. I promise I'm not trying to argue, I'm just really trying to get this straight in my own head. I have been a Christian since October, and I am doing my best to understand things. I appreciate so much you taking the time to explain things and giving me more to think about. I feel bad for not completely understanding.
34 | can you explain a little more? thanks | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121114
Dear Zsuzsi, Thank you for giving me so much more to think about and also for the advice about prayer. When I first became a Christian in October I would pray to understand the things I was reading and lately I have forgotten to do so. Thanks for the reminder and the additional scriptures. For me it is so exciting, like putting pieces of a puzzle together. But, this is the most important knowledge that we could ever attain. Thanks again. Leonore
35 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121143
Thank you WalkingTalkingBible!I am so unknowledgeable. Can you please tell me what happens when you are filled with the holy spirit? Do you know it? Is it different from when we are praying or worshipping and we feel the holy spirit? My pastor talked a little about this one time but, I don't really understand it very well. One last question,(sorry)when God fills you with his holy spirit do you continue to have it or do you have to keep praying for it? Thank you!

37 | can you explain a little more? thanks | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121148
Hi Angel! Thank you so so much! Between this and the other information and scriptures you gave me I think it's going to take me a couple of days to read it and think about it and understand it completely though, I am getting a much clearer understanding already. There is only one part that I don't understand, it is the paragraph about people who are religious in their own minds. I'm not sure if you mean that they are not really saved. I am going to take some time and read both of your posts, look up the scriptures and try to gain understanding on that also. Thanks for making me think! I want to grow in knowledge and understanding of the Lord.
38 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121196
I thank God for helping me to find this site. I appreciate you and all the people who take the time to answer my questions and help me to grow in understanding. It is going to take me quite a while to read the scriptures that you, Hank, and Daboniel have given me. Thank you very much for explaining the difference of when we make a mistake and sin and when we willfully sin and what happens in each instance. Love, Leonore
39 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121198
Hank, I not only welcome other responses, I sincerely appreciate them. You have given me a wealth of information! It is going to take me some time to go through all of the scriptures but, I know it is time well spent. Thank you so much for taking the time to send this to me. I was really interested in finding out what the activities of the holy spirit are. I didn't realize how much he does and how important it is to learn about him also.
40 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121200
I really needed to hear this.Thank you Daboniel. I needed to hear that God is present with me whether I have those feelings or not because sometimes when I'm down or have preocupations I don't feel those feelings while at church and I have really wondered if something is wrong with me or if I have distanced myself from God and I get even more down. You bringing this point out helps me more than you know. Also, thank you for the additional scriptures. Leonore
