He doesn't "punish" us but he does chastise, or rebuke, or correct us for our own good. Heb 12:3..."My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, or be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives". We even do this to each other: "All Scriptue is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" 2 Tim 3:16-17 And then Heb 12:11 "Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been rained by it". Therefore does He not chasten us for our good? | ||||||

Could some of our suffering be from the unpleasantness of the correcting hand of God? (See again Heb 12:11) 'Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."' 2 Tim 2:19. Therefore, we choose to depart from sin and so be useful to the Master. "Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work." 2 Tim 2:21 |
