21 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | Hiram Abiff | 7992
Tim, I’m sorry for your loss and ashamed that any Christian would be so callous and unfeeling toward you and your family. I feel fortunate to have left before I suffered anything more than a bruised heart. Since this was my introduction to Christianity I now find myself reevaluating everything I was taught and told. Kind of trying to separate the wheat from the chaff.
22 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | Hiram Abiff | 8147
Mark, your comments were taken in the intended spirit by me. I had already left that particular Church when I asked the question. I guess I felt the need for some other viewpoints. I was LED to believe that I was being walked down a wrong path and learned a valuable lesson about listening to the voice of God in my heart.
23 | Holy Spirit without evidence of tongues? | Acts | Hiram Abiff | 22551
Sorry, I meant to post this on the "Is tongues for unbelievers thread.
24 | MORE THAN 1 CHANCE TO RECIEVE CHRIST? | Acts | Hiram Abiff | 22556
Death row inmates usually have plenty of opportunity to accept Christ. The prison Chaplain and "prison missionaries” are the most frequent visitors for many of these people.
25 | Scripture is clear if we are open, right | Acts 11:1 | Hiram Abiff | 6908
I was raised in a Oneness Pentecostal church (tongues required for salvation) till the age of 15, at which point I quit and didn't go to any church until age 42. I was recently saved at a church that believes in tongues as a sign but not a requirement. This is also my present belief based on reading the Bible. I've seen people praying for hours in a very highly charged emotional atmosphere, being pulled on, rocked and yelled at until they seem to be experiencing physical and emotional fatigue. This seems to be the point that most speak in tongues. It would be very interesting to see a study of how many people who were brought to Christ in this manner continue to be practicing Christians after say six months.
26 | Scripture is clear, right? | Acts 11:1 | Hiram Abiff | 6935
Dear Hank, I just reread your comment and realized I went off on a tangent and didn’t answer your question. Their whole doctrine is based on the 2nd. chapter of Acts. Their reading of the account of the day of Pentecost is that not only did the people who were saved on that day speak in tongues but also this set the rule for all future people who are saved. This makes tongues at the time of salvation a requirement. If you debate the issue with them they usually say tongues is the (not a) sign that the Holy Ghost has entered your body, but if you do not experience tongues you are not saved in their eyes. I personally have no desire to be saved in any human’s eyes, but in Jesus eyes and my heart. By the way I believe the full plan of salvation is Acts 2:38. Christian, Husband, Texan, American |

27 | why men struggle - being head of house | 2 Timothy | Hiram Abiff | 9541
I recently read Maximized Manhood by Dr. Edwin Louis Cole. Wow, what a change in my marriage. Once my wife realized, by reading the book, that I was attempting to become the spiritual head (priest) of our family and not trying to be a dictator she supported the idea in full. The change in our level of communication has been astounding and has led to our nightly Bible study and prayer together. One interesting thing I have noticed is that since I have put myself in this position I have a renewed hunger for understanding of the Word and have felt the need to pray for guidance often as I feel I have taken on a sacred responsibility.
28 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 7990
Hi Ray, I have not seen your question on Heb 2:6.I will look for it and answer if I can. I believe Christ was God / man while on earth and I believe He is in heaven now. My confusion lies in whether He is the full Godhead or an equal member of a triune Godhead. But to restate my question. If I believe in the wrong concept of God's nature (meaning the make-up of the Godhead) can I really have salvation? Many atheist and other non-believers believe in a historical Jesus, but deny His nature as God (or part of God) and therefore cannot receive salvation until they accept the nature of Jesus. John 3:15 does not refer to accepting a historical Jesus, but a divine Jesus. Using the same logic, if I don’t understand the true nature, am I saved any more than the atheist who does not understand is? |

29 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 8003
Ray, Not ignoring you. Must study and think (don't want to look like too big of an idiot) I will reply soon.
30 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 8010
Ray, Apparently I was mistaken about Heb. 2:6. The capitalization you pointed out seems to indicate humans without divinity are being referred to in both parts. I base this on KJV and ASV. I am clueless about the NASB as I have never studied it and do not know its punctuation (capitalization) scheme. NASB HEB 2:6 But one has testified somewhere, saying, "WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM? ASV HEB 2:6 But one hath somewhere testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man, that thou visitest him? KJV HEB 2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? If this is true your question is not addressed in this scripture. “We can only have one father” We have one human father and one heavenly Father. “Jesus especially can have one Father because of His nature.” I don’t know where you got the impression that I believe Jesus had more than one Father. I believe Jesus had one Father and no father. “In other words, you can not have a historical Jesus of the atheist who thinks of Him as Joseph's son. (Or at best think of Him as the Son of man.) I don't believe you can have a Son of man and a Son of Man.” My statement pertained to an atheist’s concept of Jesus. I do not believe there was a bodily Jesus and separate spiritual Jesus walking the earth together (if I’m reading your opinion of my view correctly), that would be ludicrous. The Readers Digest Condensed version of my view. Jesus was conceived by God and Mary by Immaculate Conception. God miraculously impregnated Mary. No man’s sperm was involved, neither Joseph’s nor anybody else’s. Jesus was both man and God at the same time in one body. When Jesus ascended into heaven it was as a spirit being (God), where He resides today. Let me phrase the question differently again; is a correct view of the makeup of the Godhead (in heaven at this present time) necessary for salvation? |

31 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 8014
Ray, I think that we are discussing two different issues on the same thread. Can we discuss my question about the makeup of the Godhead on this thread and your question on the other thread? If I don’t compartmentalize these I may get confused and start debating myself as well as you.
32 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 8138
Thank you Steve and Ray. You guys have helped me see the issue more clearly. Through prayer, Bible study and meditation this weekend I am finally at peace and have come to terms with the issue. God bless you.
33 | Holy Spirit and the nature of God? | Heb 1:2 | Hiram Abiff | 8153
Ray, I also believe in the Lord Jesus as God, but now have the faith to believe in Him as a part of the triune Godhead with the power of “God”. My understanding may be rudimentary at this point but it is enough to allow me to grow in Christ. I agree with you about capitalization of any pronoun referring to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In my mind the practice is not only correct form but a method of praise as well. |
