Hello MAMAMETAL, Now here is a contradiction, Baptism now saves us. "1 Pet 3:21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, " Now what will you do? 22 | WHAT WAS IT BEFORE IT " BECAME"? | Genesis | wordoer | 30735
Before it became without form and void it was still the "earth", that was created in the beginning, Genesis 1:1. We know that God is not the author of confusion, 1Cor 14:33, and it is hard to imagine He created the earth a mixed up mess. I believe He created it with order and to be habitated. The rest of verse 2 bears out that darkness (God's judgement) was over the surface of the deep. If you consider the archeological findings consisting of so-called cavemen, dinosaur fossils, and all the organic materials that have turned to coal oil and gas, would it not make sense that God created the earth to be a dwelling place for His creation. Then because His creation became corrupt He brought judgement upon it. Read another reference of when the earth was formless and void in Jeremiah 4:23-26. It's also pretty obvious that the earth is millions of years old according to all that has been uncovered and still many maintain that the earth is 6000 yrs. old. 2Peter 3:1-9,is also worth reading, notice that in verse 5 the earth was formed out of water and by water (I don't think this is talking about Noahs flood). Back in Jeremiah it say's the heavens had no light (a perfect scenario for an ice age). Verse 7 of 2peter 3, speaks of the present heavens(today's heavens have lights). I think it is a very interesting subject and worth studying because, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter" Proverbs 25:2. I hope this helps you. wordoer |

24 | Two Creation Stories? | Gen 1:1 | wordoer | 41670
Hello, I just started reading a book on this subject. I will hit on a couple of the things briefly just to give you an idea. What I have been able to glean thus far is that The second chapter of Genesis is not a retelling of the first chapter. God (Elohiym) is plural (signifing the Godhead)in the creation account of Genesis 1, In verses 27-30 it is saying that He created them male and female -at the same time, and that the word "image" comes from the Hebrew word "tselem" which means to "shade". That word comes from the root word "tsalal" meaning to be dark, shadowing. Also there were no carnivores at this time in creation, as God instructed the beast and fowl to eat the green herb, ect,. In Genesis 2 God is know as Yahovah which is singular in form, in verse 5 of chapter 2, God says "there was not a man to till the ground" the account goes on - Adam is formed , not commanded to be fruitful and multiply,or to replenish the earth , but put in the garden for the reason of keeping and dressing it. Then He gave Adam the law, He was not to eat of a certain tree, The male and female of Gen 1 had no such instruction. In the account of forming a helpmeet for Adam the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air occur before God took Adams rib to form Eve. So the position they are taking is that the 2nd chapter is not a retelling of the 1st chapter and God is recognized differently in the separate accounts. I looked in Strongs concordance and it gives both accounts of God as number "430" Elohiym, However the Interlinear Bible does show a difference, and gives God Jehovah "3068" in the case of Gen 2:5. It does appear to me that there is a difference in the two accounts in question. I hope this helps you, wordoer |

25 | Creation of man noted on 2 diff. days? | Gen 1:27 | wordoer | 157763
Hello rayanez, I guess the following statement, "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. 2 Tim 4:3a NIV", that kalos points out disqualifies me from giving a reasonable answer as it may be seen as "not sound doctrine" by the many. My answer to your question is that Adam was an eighth day creation, other men and women were created previously. I and a few others see these accounts in Genesis 1 and 2 as a continuation of the creation account. Two questions I would like to have answered is, "Where in scripture does God have a point gone over to explain in greater detail other than the supposed Genesis 1, and 2 accounts?", and "Is there an example for us to take the position that Genesis 1, and 2 are the same accounts?". In the account in Gen.1:26,27 this man and woman were spoken into existance, and in the Gen.2:7 the man was formed out of the dust of the ground, and in Gen.2:5 states that there was not a man to till the ground. Adam was a farmer, these created in 1:27 were hunter, gatherers. Then we have in Gen 3:1, the serpent, Ok a talking snake, possibly the progeny of those John spoke to in Matthew 3:7, "you brood of vipers", Did John see and speak to snakes, or men? These other peoples are mentioned throughout scripture. wordoer |

26 | Why did Adam grow old? | Gen 5:5 | wordoer | 100952
Hello Ken hepting, Of course I believe Adam would have grown old irregardless of his sin, as time passes, at each circuit of the earth around the sun, you accumulate years to your life, No different than Adam. The thing about Adam that I find interesting is that God told them in the day they ate of the fruit they would die. Gen 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." No one has ever lived past that mark of a "day". 2 Pet 3:8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. Gen 5:5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. Did he not die in that day? Death was a promise, but not a reality before Adam sinned. What thinkest thou? wordoer |

27 | why did noah curse cannan | Gen 9:22 | wordoer | 30960
The question lies in the definition of the term nakedness. This was what Ham did - saw his fathers nakedness,Gen 9:22, I know the scripture does not descibe all the intricacies, But I submit the following for your consideration. In Lev 18:6, "None of you shall approach any blood relative of his to uncover nakedness; I am the Lord". verse 7 states that the nakedness of your father is your mother. verse 13 states a situation of uncovering nakedness, where the person is a blood relative. verse 17 also refers to blood relatives, and states that it is lewdness. Now if you know what happens when blood relatives (the examples in Lev 18 are close blood relatives) have intercourse resulting in child birth(inbreeding),certain abilities are diminished (retardedness). One apparent thing they didn't lack was the tendency toward wickedness. So I believe that Canaan was the result of relations between Ham and his mother. I believe there you have the reason why Canaan was cursed to be a servant of servants. I think it was announced by Noah to show his disapproval and understanding that Canaan would be genetically defective, it seems like a natural (God ordained) thing that Canaan was (genetically) cursed at conception for the violation of God's Law on the matter. Her name is not mentioned in the Bible, however it is recorded in the book of Jasher(Jashar- in the NASB) , This extra-Biblical work is refered to twice in the Holy Scriptures, specifically in, Josh 10:13, 2 Sam 1:18. 29 | Plese give some history on Boaz | Gen 21:12 | wordoer | 34000
I have studied this a little, and have come to find that in the days of old people were known by their occupation, Or that of their Father, Along with their given (first) name. So if Boaz' Father would have been a Shoe maker, He would be known as Boaz Shumacher, or some derivation. And likewise with other occupations or status in society, Sons of Isaac would have been know as Isaacsons, Isacksons, or Saxons (Genesis 21:12). So in days of old those "Last", names were really not necessary. Hope that helps you. wordoer |

30 | First cousin marriages today? | Gen 28:2 | wordoer | 34881
According to the account in Genesis 28, There is no restiction against marrying a first cousin. Rebecca sent Jacob to take a wife from the Daughters of Laban her brother. God certainly does not condemn it. The restrictions in Leviticus 18 are clear, that relations with a close blood relative are forbidden. The examples are listed Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Aunt, Uncle, ect... It suprised me because I had always heard and believed that marriage is resticted to the relation of second cousins, Meaning that it was okay to marry your second cousin. I see no other laws forbidding marriage to first cousins. Also the accounts in the scripture about the Daughters of Lot having relations with Lot resulted in the Moabites and the Ammonites (genetic defects) which were considered wicked lineage (Caanan also). My point would be if Jacobs union to Rebecca had not pleased God, He would have condemned their children and not blessed them. Hope that helps, wordoer |

31 | What Bible says on marriage of relatives | Gen 28:2 | wordoer | 154448
Hello tkt, You may read the Law in Leviticus chapter 18 to discern what relationships are forbidden. But the Bible example we have to learn from shows that it would be no closer than first cousins. I have also studied into Abrahams relation to Sarah, and I believe she was Abrahams brother Terah's daughter, which would have made her Abrahams niece. And Foxworthy joked about rednecks going to family reunions to find a mate. Well, maybe they were rednecks, and God loved them and blessed them. wordoer |

32 | origin of standard marital vows | Ex 24:7 | wordoer | 96145
Hello mamere17, I think the principle is in scripture, it is not the same wording ,But I think the principles apply. I have been intending on doing a more thorough study on the subject, I hope this will suffice. Concerning, "for richer and poorer", I would relate that to when Israel was prosperous they would turn their back on God and go whoring after other gods. "in sickness and in health", The Lord said "I will never leave you or forsake you", which I would say applies here. "forsaking all others", The Lord said, "thou shalt have no other gods before Me" Exodus 20:3. "til death do you part", I believe the scripture uses the term, "all the days of your life" I believe the vows are scriptural in nature. After all, God is the one who gave us this institution of marriage, He married (entered into a covenant relationship with) Israel at Mount Sinai. Ex 24:7 Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!". And there is "obey", his woman Israel, said that. hope that helps you, wordoer |

Hello Laura, It is written. Lev 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD. There is the scripture Mark says many will point out (in Leviticus). I myself would obey the Lord, But you have the decision to make. If I needed some outward sign, I would get a hat, shirt, or a plaque with that insignia on it, at least you wouldn't be breaking the Law, and you could take it off a lot easier. 1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 35 | work on Sundays | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 104859
Hello bobnstar, I would not say that it is in violation of God's law to work on Sunday, because it is hard to determine which day is the Sabbath. He doesn't say don't work on Sunday. I believe a good rule for today is to work six days and rest on the seventh, that is mentioned often. We should do the best we can, if your seventh day doesn't line up with everyone elses, I wouldn't debate it, allow the Lord to direct your steps. I do believe you should take one day in seven to rest. That seems to be sufficient for God, or he would not have said it. I believe we will know which day is the Sabbath as we grow closer to our Lord, He will reveal it, and we will with one mind keep that prescribed day, of one accord. I think it is interesting the way God determines as a day, look at Gen 1:5, God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. , It seems to start at noon ( beginning of evening) and ends at noon (at the end of the morning). I hope this helps you, wordoer |

36 | lawful on the sabbath days to do good | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 105000
Hello New Creature, you ask; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?" My answer is; It is lawful to do good, not to do evil, Never is it lawful to do evil. Saving life would be my preference and according to scripture as well (as if my preference would matter). Mark 3:4 And He *said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?" But they kept silent. I won't keep silent, I'll tell you straight. Mark 3:2 They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. I don't know how you have come to think that I would not want someone to be healed. But the Pharisees were looking to accuse Jesus. Mark 3:6 The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him. They set out to destroy Him because He did good? This is the Pharisees mindset, they would rather see someone suffer, They had no compassion on this afflicted man. Never should a Christian desire to see someone suffer. The point of my answer was to have a day of rest. Work six days and rest on the seventh. As far a Doctors and nurses, do they heal on the Sabbath? or are they making a living off of the suffering of others? It is something to think about. If this is the case, I am not very appreciative of it. I would rather the sick and afflicted humble themselves before the Great Physician, so they might be truly healed. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify my position on this important subject, wordoer |

37 | is it wrong to date or marry outside of | Deut 7:3 | wordoer | 94408
Hello SD100702, There are examples in scripture where Israel was told not to intermarry with those of other nations and not to give their daughters and sons to them marriage. They didn't always listen and it caused them many problems, for they sinned against their God. Here are some of the scriptures, Gen. 34:9, Deut. 7:3, Josh. 23:12, Ezra 9:14. You can also search key words at the "Get Bible Text" window to the right. There is plenty on the subject in scripture. Ezra and Nehemiah tell of how the men sinned and took foriegn wives, Ezra 10, and how men of God made a change and had those men put away those whom they intermarried with. God doesn't change, Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Ex 24:12 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction." Deut 7:3 "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. 2 Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 1 Cor 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. You can also read about Balak and Balaam, in Numbers chapters 22-25. Num 31:16 "Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, so the plague was among the congregation of the LORD. When you read this you can see how Israel was enticed to sin and God's wrath came upon them in a plague, which Phineas put an end to. This should get you started and I hope they help, wordoer |

38 | Israel and worship of other gods | Deut 11:16 | wordoer | 189655
Hello, Tuggy, They are an obstinant people, and not smart enough to know when they have a good thing going. Which I think is why He calls us sheep. Like in this verse in 1 Samuel 8, They had a King, Which was The Most High God, but they wanted a King like all the other nations, You can read the whole chapter. It is really dumb, even after Samuel told them how it would be under an earthly king. Also if you read in Kings and Chronicles their kings would cause them to turn away from their God, and some kings caused them to return. 1 Sam 8:5 and they said to him, "Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations." Is 1:3 "An ox knows its owner, And a donkey its master's manger, But Israel does not know, My people do not understand." wordoer |
