21 | What can we learn from the Methodists? | 1 Cor 3:22 | newoldstock | 95812
What I learned: Bad: To agree to disagree. Committees can be very self-centered and politically motivated. How to run a large social club. How to run a large business. How to build a 13 million dollar church. How to entertain the masses. Introduction to Christian Universalism. Good: How to be saved and know it. Methodist Men's, women's and couples retreats are spiritual life changing adventures. Methodist ministers from Asbury are top notch. Good hierarchy ruling system. |

22 | Ogran donation? | Mark 12:31 | newoldstock | 95316
There is no specific verse that I know of that would directly address organ donation, but this one works for me. Mark 12:31 "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
23 | I don't understand how we can interpret | Matt 2:23 | newoldstock | 95302
I just researched this topic further and found The following notes from The Blue Letter Bible, David Guzik Commentary Study Notes: a. The phrase He shall be called a Nazarene is not a Biblically recorded prophecy, but probably just a well known rabbinic prophecy or interpretation b. Since to be a Nazarene was a special mark of holiness, it seemed natural that the Messiah would be a Nazarene; but Matthew shows how this was true in a different way - He was from the city of Nazareth, though not a Nazarene through a vow c. Remember that Nazareth was a city that did not have a particularly good reputation (John 1:46); yet the Father did not feel it necessary to have Jesus come from a "good" city |

24 | God helps those who help themselves? | 2 Thess 3:10 | newoldstock | 94041
I've always kind of liked this verse, but it is not an exact match to the old saying that you quoted. Your saying, I believe, is not a quote from the bible.
25 | Did Adam and Eve go to heaven? | Gen 1:1 | newoldstock | 93759
I don't think that we can know for sure. I don't recall any bible verse evidence of this, but they sinned and died prior to the Law and to the New Covenant in Christ Jesus. So by what standard were they judged. God punished them, but then clothed them. I think that God forgave them and they are most likely in heaven waiting to greet your class of girls when they eventually go to heaven. God Bless, Jim.
26 | John the babtist as Elizah | Matt 11:14 | newoldstock | 93734
Matt 11:14 "And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.
27 | To what "the baptism of John" refer? | Acts 19:4 | newoldstock | 93725
This verse is your answer. The "baptism of John" was a water baptism of repentence only. Preparing the way for Jesus to baptise with the Holy Spirit. |
||||||
28 | Explain John's baptism in Matt. 21:25 | Matt 11:14 | newoldstock | 93723
This verse should explain who John's baptism was from.
29 | How do we discipline church members? | 1 Cor 5:12 | newoldstock | 93482
Couldn't holding Christians accountable for their actions and disciplining for these actions create gossip and backbiting amoungst the congregation? It was not the case in this situation, but suppose that the Deacon was a spouse abuser or worse and the man she moved in with was a relative or an old family friend. Well-meaning members could bring an indescretion to the attention of the pastor every day.
30 | How do we discipline church members? | 1 Cor 5:12 | newoldstock | 93434
BTW, if all the pastors of America asked all of the sinners to leave their church, how many members would be left?
31 | What is the meaning of Matthew 11:12? | Matt 11:12 | newoldstock | 93396
Sorry, I just read the past threads. I am new to this and it is taking me a while to catch on.
32 | Is the bible literal? | 2 Tim 3:16 | newoldstock | 92853
J.M., do you mean should the bible be understood and followed literally today? If that is what you mean, the answer is yes! The bible is not allegory! There is good manuscript evidence and knowledge that we have God's word in our modern bibles. The original manuscripts are INSPIRED, INNERRENT, AND INFALLABLE. Even the words. God does not change.
33 | More Questions | Luke 16:22 | newoldstock | 92237
There is no mention of an "age of accountability" in Scripture. My own personal feeling is that the sins of a child are not on the same level and motivation of those of an adult. God is Love! I'll leave the children question up to Him. Lengthy discussion would be human conjecture. To find out more about Sheol and Hades and Hell enter Sheol into the "quick search" box at the upper right of the screen. It has been well covered on this fine site. I would assume that those before Abraham were in Sheol until Jesus released them during his body's 3 days in the tomb. Perhaps someone else could answer this for both of us. God Bless, Jim. |

34 | Children in Hell | Luke 16:22 | newoldstock | 92219
The Canaanites were a wicked people. God sometimes used one nation to punish another nation. God also did not want cross-marriage and religious contamination of his chosen people. The dead prior to Jesus's ascension all went to Sheol. Part of it was Abraham's bosom and the other part was Hades.
