21 | Rahab Mother in law of Ruth? | OT general | Jalek | 239769
Greetings, There is a theory called the "Open genealogy" theory that claims that the genealogies listed are listing the more well known members of the line, like the family leaders and so forth. There's an article about it in the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics. It does have merit, especially when you compare genealogies together, such as Matthew 1:8 with 1 Chronicles 3:11-12, and 1 chronicles 6:6-14 with Ezra 7:2. Also, if you do the math in Genesis 5-11 and assume there are no gaps, then you come to some implausible conclusions, which can only be explained away via an open genealogy. This theory is not without objections. The primary objection being that some think it takes liberties and uses more isogesis (reading into the text) instead of exegesis (reading out of the text). 22 | Enoch, Moses, Elijah in heaven | OT general | Jalek | 240639
Greetings, Enoch, Moses, and Elijah were old testament figures. Enoch was a pre-noahic figure. Moses and Elijah are considered to have been the two most powerful prophets ever to live. Moses actually died, which is recorded in Deuteronomy 34. Enoch and Elijah, however, were taken up by God. Meaning that there is no recorded death for them, but they were carried up to heaven by God himself due to their faith. Jalek |

23 | Why are Matthew and Mark similar ? | NT general | Jalek | 238899
Greetings, Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the Synoptic Gospels because their content mirrors each other. Now, Matthew was an eyewitness to most of the events he speaks about. Mark was a pupil of Peter, as well as cousin to Barnabas, and a travelling companion to Paul. So he would have had ample access to information. Dr. Luke states at the start of his gospel that he investigated everything from the beginning, and that his sources were eyewitnesses. As a result, it's easy to see why they would be similar if they used similar sources. Jalek |

24 | bible verse as church in male venacular | NT general | Jalek | 239089
Greetings, Actually, there aren't any. The Church is described as a woman for two very good reasons. First, the church is referred to as "The Bride of Christ", and the relationship between Jesus and the Church is to be as close as a married couple should be, meaning they should be as one entity if you will. The second, and most important, reason why the Church is referred to as a female is due to the language. Unlike English, Greek and Hebrew words also have gender in addition to number, person, and so forth. This is a strange concept for people who only speak English, but if you've studied other foreign languages, then it's not as strange. There are many modern day languages that have a gender component to their terms as well. The term for church in the greek is ekklessia, which is feminine in the greek. Jalek |

25 | Was John the Baptist a Priest? | NT general | Jalek | 239673
Greetings, His father was a Levite, which was the priestly tribe. I recall reading somewhere that he was a member of the Essenes, which was a part of the Sanhedren along with the Sadducees and Pharisees. So was he a priest? There's a strong possibility that he was. Jalek |

27 | Can you give more info in support? | NT general | Jalek | 240227
Greetings, Yes, In Luke 8:1-3, Dr. Luke identifies Mary Magdalene by name. However, in Luke 10:38-42, he identifies Martha's sister, also known as Mary of Bethany, as simply Mary. Given that Dr. Luke is known for his detail and precision, he would have identified her as Mary Magdalene if they were one and the same person. Jalek |

28 | Creation of a race on the 6th day | Genesis | Jalek | 238936
Greetings, First off, where does it say that man was created on the Seventh Day? Genesis 2:2-3 specifically say that he rested and sanctified the seventh day as a day of rest. Second, Genesis 2:4 specifically states that this is "the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made Earth and Heaven". The rest of chapter two specifically deals with the Garden of Eden, which wasn't created on the third day like the vegetation around the world, but afterwards on the sixth day when God created man to give man a home. Third, the laws against incest didn't come around until centuries later during the time Moses. In fact, genetic diversity probably didn't really become a factor until the Tower of Babel after the Great Flood. So, the idea of incest wouldn't have been much of a taboo during the early days of Genesis as it would be later. Jalek |

29 | Creation days | Genesis | Jalek | 238938
Greetings, Let me ask this, what was the first thing created? Answer: Time The Sun, moons, stars later became a means by which we could calculate time. Time was already in existence. When you look at it from that perspective, everything makes sense. God didn't need the sun, moon, and stars to calculate time, because he is beyond and before time. He created the means to calculate time for us in the days before Man was created. Jalek |

31 | how so many races-only one on the Ark? | Genesis | Jalek | 239968
Greetings, If I recall correctly, the three sons of Noah and their descendants each went their own ways to eventually grow to become the separate races. This separation was further enhanced by the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11, and the separation of the continents in Genesis 10:25. Jalek |

33 | can sex be casual and just fun | Gen 2:23 | Jalek | 235654
Greetings, When you study the biblical definition of sex, you find one term that follows it: knowledge. Sex is defined, biblically, as "knowing" each other. Also, it is a knowledge that only the husband should experience, and vice versa. It's described in places as sacred, and should be treated as such. There's also the flip side to sex when used for "fun". Most of the Biblical writers touch on the subject of Sexual immorality. The Mosaic law speaks at length on this very topic, and describes casual sex as a part of Sexual immorality along with other similar acts. According to Moses, casual sex is attoned for by marrying each other. Also, so called "casual sex" with a married person is adultry, which is viewed as on par with Idolatry according to Hosea. Paul even warns about there being other consequences to sexually immoral acts other than that of sin, hinting to what we now know as STDs. Jalek |

34 | Thorns and thistles? | Gen 3:18 | Jalek | 232344
Greetings, The passsage could go either way. The point of the passage is that Mankind will have to work for their food instead of obtaining it easily by pulling it from a tree. They'll have to work the land, plant the seeds, grow the plants, and harvest the crop. In addition, the ground won't cooperate, but will be growing "thorns and thistles", or in other words ... weeds. 35 | Genesis angels creating giants? | Gen 6:2 | Jalek | 239758
Greetings, It's a misinterpretation of Genesis 6:1-4. The phrase "Sons of God" is interpreted by some to mean "Angels". However, the context of the book of Genesis doesn't support it. What the context does support is that the Godly line of Seth and the Ungodly line of Cain intermarried. As for the giants, that is a misreading of verse 4. The verse reads that the Giants or Nephilim "were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the Sons of God came in to the Daughters of Men,". The indication being that the Giants existed before the two groups came together. Therefore, the giants cannot be the offspring of the Sons and the Daughter. It is my personal belief that the Giants are mentioned as a time reference, as if to speak of sports history and say that "The Rams football team was still in California". Anyone familiar with the giants, or the football team in the example given, would know when the event took place. Jalek |

36 | how long was noah on the ark | Gen 6:15 | Jalek | 239994
Greetings, Putting the Ark into modern day measurements: 450ft long x 75ft wide x 45ft high. Now, to put this into perspective: NFL regulation Football field: 360ft pylon to pylon NHL regulation Hockey Rink: 85ft wide Commercial building Story: 10-15 ft. Furthermore, the Ark would have contained 1,500,000 cubic feet of space. This is equal to approximately 570 standard American Railroad Boxcars, each capable of holding 240 sheep each, which is the size of the average animal. Now, the bible doesn't say that Noah took adult specimens, and he was on the ark long enough for many of them to mature if he took young animals. It is estimated that about 30k to 50k of animals would be needed to save enough animals to repopulate the earth. Of the given space, Noah would have used only 30-40 percent of the space for animals, leaving 60-70 percent for food and supplies. Jalek |

37 | HOW MANY DAYS WAS NOAH ON THE ARK | Gen 6:15 | Jalek | 239997
Greetings, According to Genesis 7:6, Noah was 600 years old when the flood began. According to Genesis 8:13, Noah was 601 years old when the flood waters receded, and he left the ark about a month later. If you calculate the time listed in between those verses, Noah and his family were on the Ark for every bit of a year, at least 250 days. Jalek |

Greetings, You answered your own question. To see if the water had gone down enough to disembark. However, Noah still remained on the Ark. Why? That should be obvious. God didn't tell him to. God told Noah when it was safe to leave. Jalek |

40 | End of the curse? | Gen 8:21 | Jalek | 232350
Greetings, 1) Yes, this would be the end of the Curse upon the ground that God placed in Genesis 3. However, it is also where the seasons are spelled out. God promised not to curse the ground because of Man's stupidity and rebelliousness, but Man still had to work for his food. 2) God has made it clear that Man has to work for his living. It's man's fault. 3) I would say that it is the tri-une Godhead speaking amongst themselves. Jalek |
