21 | can you lose your salvation or not? | 2 Cor 1:22 | JCrichton | 151583
Hi! I know that many teach and believe "once saved always saved..." Yet, this is not Biblical! Not once did Jesus say, once you are saved you can't lose your salvation. And not one of the Apostles taught that! There is teaching to the contrary... Jesus tells us that not all who call Him Lord will be saved! He even speaks of those who will perform signs in His name--not even super human powers will secure our salvation... however, abiding in Him does: "I am the Resurrection and the Life," He said at one time so that those who believe in Me though dead will come to life and if alive will not die! But abiding in Him means obeying His Commandments; it means rejecting the world and embracing Him; it means subjecting ourselves to His Will and not our own will! This is eternal life! (John 17:3) Knowing God means abiding in Him in obedience; humbly subjecting ourselves to Him. (John 14:15) In one occasion Paul admonishes the Church: 26For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord's death until he comes again. 27So if anyone eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily, that person is guilty of sinning against the body and the blood of the Lord. 28That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking from the cup. 29For if you eat the bread or drink the cup unworthily, not honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God's judgment upon yourself. (1 Corinthians 11:26-29--NLT) 26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. (1 Corinthians 11:26-29--KJV) Paul is not mincing words... Christians can bring damnation upon ourselves! Again, while speaking to the Ephesians, Paul is very adamant about what saves: 1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7Therefore do not be partners with them. 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) (1 Ephesians 5:1-9) Verses 5 and 6 are not speaking of or to the nonbelievers; these verses are very much directed at those who Believe: don't join the crowd; don't do as you once did; no one who practices such deeds will inherit the Kingdom of God! Christians should be striving to be obedient to Christ and to humble ourselves to His Commandment, as John said: "if we confess our sins, He will forgive us and cleanse us!" (1 John 1:9) Jesus is our Eternal Security and our Eternal Salvation. (John 15:1-6) Let us abide in Christ, lest we be cut off! God Bless! Angel |

22 | what is the diff btwn conse and sanctifc | Ex 28:3 | JCrichton | 151582
Hi! Only One can Sanctify, the Holy Spirit... God makes us or anything holy (pure/purified/separated) as with the various people that were anointed and the ground about the burning bush, the mountain where God dwell as He visited with the Hebrew people, the Ark... You, I or anyone else, can choose to consecrate your life to God... as the Nazarites, the various prophets, John the Baptist, etc... though we can elect to separate ourselves from the temporal world in order to serve God (as the various monks, hermits and others); it is only God who can call us to that service and it is only God who can sanctify both our bodies and our labor. 23 | Who are the lost sheep of israel? | Matt 15:24 | JCrichton | 151333
Hi, Poetlois! While reading through the Old Testament Books (Samuel, Kings, Chronicles) we find Yahweh admonishing Israel for turning from Him, the only True and Living God, to the pagans' gods, anything and everything that was worshipped though not being God... when Jesus came to His people (Emmanuel, the God-among-us) Israel had been rejecting God's Authority--in essense, they had gone astray, in spite of all the warnings against idolatry and rejection of the One True God! Throughout the Old Testament, God promised that, in the fullness of time, He would come to His people and would live among them... but He also warned that Israel would reject Him and run to those that were nongods; He would then, come to those that were not His people and make unto Himself a nation... those that were once God's people would now be called not my people and those that were not God's people would now be called His people (please read Romans 9:1 thru 11:32)... it would be Jesus who would bring Hope (Life) to the Gentiles! Yet, before Jesus could bring the Gentiles to His fold, Israel, the people of God, had to enjoy their visitation with their God-with-us, Emmanuel (John 1:1-14)... once this was fulfilled, Jesus would then, through His Church, embrace the Gentiles! God Bless! Angel |

24 | Dominion Miracles | 1 Sam 1:1 | JCrichton | 151214
Hi! Understanding that the Holy Scripture is not a farmer's almanac (filled with historical accounts of past events and forecasts calculated on past events), we can reason, from the revealed information, that something is or happened or will be: Satan's dominion Though not stated as to when, how, or why it was done we find several passages that alude to this: Luke 4:5-6; John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11--notice that Jesus Himself attests that Satan is the prince of this world (remember that there are two kingdoms one is of the flesh and the other of the Spirit). Satan and miracles Again, we have several passages that speak directly on this issue: Matthew 24:24 (compare with Mark 13:22); Revelation 13:11-13; 19:20--again, it is Jesus Himself who warns that the antiChrists (false Christs) will produce signs to seduce/decieve the world and even the elect (Believers) if it were possible! God Bless! Angel |

26 | Nowadays Examples | Rom 14:20 | JCrichton | 151174
Hi, cklamhk! One clear example is the growing movement of Christians accepting society's morals and conduct while disregarding Scripture or even brazenly distorting Scripture to gain favor with the world: Abortion, homosexuality, drugs, alcohol, suicide, premarital sex or union (those who claim that they can share their beds with their "soulmates" without engaging in any sexual activities), masturbation, tolerance of all of the above (claiming to reject these acts while supporting those who embrace them)... 27 | Tongues in different settings? | 1 Cor 14:22 | JCrichton | 151071
Hi, JRM! I was about to sign off... Quick summation: Paul found himself in the midst of a power play... some were claiming (as it happens today) to be more able than others... perhaps a few were seeking to out do others and basically a battle of the wills emerged... at one point Paul speaks on the value of tongues... he states that in the Old Testament God tells Israel that He will be the God of those foreing to Him because they have continously rejected Him... and it is those of strange tongues that will listen to God while His own people will reject Him--this is the sign of condemnation: Israel the natural Olive rejects the Living God while the Gentiles, the grafted Olive accepts God (this converges in Christ Jesus--John 1:1-14)... So Paul uses this warning to bring order to the chaos that is transpiring... He further explains that speaking in tongues is an exercise between the speaker and God--no one other than a the person speaking in tongues and the person that is guided by the Holy Spirit to interprete will gain anything from the exercise... He uses several examples to demonstrate the futility of fighting among each other to out perform all others who are speaking in tongues (musical instrument; human language...); he even goes as far as to state that his abilities are greater than theirs and that he himself would rather use a legible language to instruct and convict those who hear him than to demonstrate his abilities at speaking in tongues... Another point that Paul makes is that God is not a God of chaos but of order; hence, he commands that when gathered to worship there should be an order for things... that not more than three (3) people should speak in tongues--and these in and orderly fashion--and only if there is someone who can interprete; he does not forbid speaking in tongues; he simply warns that any revelation must be for the edification of the Church, that it benefits all if we seek to preach/teach the Word, that we are to keep order (not everyone shouting and chanting all over the place), and that if there is no interpreter, those moved by the Holy Spirit should do so quietly as their actions should not interfere with the services taking place.... There's no contradiction in Paul's admonishion; there's simply a code of conduct and a command to workd to edify the Church in all that we do! God Bless! Angel |

28 | Using instruments at worship service | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 151066
Hi, BMR47! I've come across some who belief as much... I think part of their rationale lies in the fact that the early Chruch was persecuted under the penalty of death... thusly, Peter, Paul and the rest of the Believers would gather in secrecy (attested by Jesus' appearance, after His resurresction, in the locked room where the disciples were gathered and the various expulsions of the disciples from the synagogues); as the Chruch grew more and more services were conducted in individual houses (churches), in the wilderness, in caves, and later on even in the catacombs... Could you imagine a group of Christians meeting for worship service and employing all sorts of musical instruments (as prescribed in the Psalms) and singing at the top of their voice?... surely, they would be dealt with expediently! The irony of all this is that the empire that sought to destroy Christianity paved the way (through persecution and building of protected roads) for its success and proliferation... The problem with some congregations is that they find the slightest seemingly "novel" idea and they reject all Scripture that deny their theology... Remember king David's foolish behavior?... not only did he allowed the use of musical instruments but he himself danced as the ark was returned to Israel (2 Samuel 6:5-17)... Here's another scenario... could you imagine Christ speaking to the bridegroom and asking him to "stop the music" because God has a problem with musical instruments? (John 2:1-11) Granted, the adaptation of secular musical styles or music scores to render worship to God is close to blasphemy as the mind of those familiar with the songs can easily be caught up with the lirics/styles which reflect anti-Christian values... this could easily be solved if we stop the quest to out do other Christians by introducing anything and everything to make our musical skills standout--some efforts could be placed into the development of musical talents so that the Body of Christ can create its own music without dabbling into questionable formats. 29 | why go to a doctor for healing | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 150919
Hi, Lani! Just as there is no Scripture restricting from the use of a doctor, there is no Scripture guaranteeing us miracle cures from God that correspond to our level of obedience and/or faith... As a matter of fact, there is one specific passage that speaks on our reliance on God's Strength rather than on ours, and it shatters all teaching that lack of faith is the impediment to health and wealth for the Christian: 7To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10) Paul's faith and accomplishments in the service of Christ, outstrips most of today's Believers'--would we say then, that it was his lack of faith or his ambivalence that kept Paul from obtaining enough grace to remove/cure whatever ailed him? Clearly, Jesus was aware that the poeple of Israel were frequenting physicians (Matthew 9:12; Luke 4:23); yet, there was never a word against those who practiced medicine nor against those who sought treatment! Just as on the day of Pentecost, God has the Power to reveal Himself as He pleases... it could very well be that during our times (as times in the past) the Holy Spirit may decide to remove/cure any and all ailments from those who serve Christ--this by no means implies a contractural obligation in God's part! 30 | Jn3:16 ;1Jn2:15 Do/don't love the world | John 3:16 | JCrichton | 150914
"IF we cannot understand the bible, that the Holy Spirit is not within us " Hi! Jesus never taught that! Not a single Apostle/disciple ever taught that! Our spiritual growth does not depend on our personal abilities... it is God, the Holy Spirit, who chooses to give to some one Gift or another (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Kwoing God is not a choice that we make; God reveals Himself to us according to His Will (John 6:44); hence, knowing God is never contingent upon any human power or understanding... we have an excellent example of this in John 15:27 thru 16:15: 27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. ...4I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you. 5"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. 12"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. In the above passage, Jesus speaks of things to come... He credits the Apostles with the witnessing they will do since they were with Him from the beginning; while at the same time He explains to them that His absence is to their benefit... the disciples, with the exception of Judas, were eager to know Jesus, to know God's mysteries... they wanted to get closer to God by being part of Jesus' intimate companions--did they understand everything? No! Was it required of them? Emphatically, NO! Not only did the disciples not understand everything, but Jesus tells them flat out that there are things that they could not comprehend even if He were to reveal them to them... He sends the Holy Spirit, the other Paraclete, who will come to reveal the fullness of truth! The Holy Spirit is in the world... we are at the last days when His Spirit is given to the world, and it is He, the Holy Spirit, that teaches and leads all to Christ... it is He, who reveals the mind of God (1 Corinthians 2:6-16)... and those who have the Holy Spirit do not demonstrate this by their abilities (human/superhuman) of speaking strange languages, walking on hot coals, playing with serpents or taming tigers, and lions, and bears! Here's the quintessential prof that you are in Christ and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you: Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3) 20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. 23No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25And this is what he promised us—even eternal life. (1 John 2:20-25) ...more proof that it is not what we know but who we know?... read Acts 8:14-17; 10:34-48 On the above passages, some were received into the Body of Christ through preaching and baptism (knowledge and awareness) while others through direct interaction of the Holy Spirit; these new Believers were not rejected because they did not know enough or because they did not offer some physical demonstration of the Holy Spirit working in them! God's Holy Spirit cannot be contained or restrained; He determines who receives what, when, and in what measure. So, be at peace! God will reveal to you everything that He wants you to know at His appointed time... we are commanded to seek God; not to worry about who gets to "home plate" first or how often! Anyone who attempts to teach you differently than Jesus, he/she is wrong! (Matthew 20:1-16) God Bless! Angel |

31 | Jn3:16 ;1Jn2:15 Do/don't love the world | John 3:16 | JCrichton | 150904
Hi! I think that part of the problem you are having is experienced by most Christians (and the world) as they begin their trek with Jesus... There are many seemingly contradictory statements in Scripture... one in particular is when Jesus talks about the end of times and He tells His disciples that not even the Son (of man) knows the exact moment, that that hour and day are exclusively known only to the Father... Here's the catch... Jesus never stopped being God; since God is Omniscient, Jesus must know all (all things were created by Him and for Him); the disciples become aware of Jesus' Omniscience: Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God." (John 16:30) Then, why would Jesus lie?... He didn't! As the Lamb of God (John 1:29) the Word Incarnate did not come to teach and reveal all the mysteries of God; He came to Save the world (John 3:140-17)... and Jesus Himself tells us that there are things that He did not reveal because the disciples were not yet ready to understand (John 16:7-15)... God can love the world (all of humanity without exception) while still rejecting the world (all of humanity who choose to trangress His Authority and rebel against His Will), for it is not God who differentiates between one man and another; it is man who humbly subjects himself to God's Will and obeys Him or proudly rejects God's Authority and disobeys Him and revels in his own will (John 3:17-21; 5:24-40; John 1:1-5, 9-14)... God loves the world so much so that the Word becomes as one of us in order to rescue us from the wages of sin (death); but God loathes iniquity... thusly He rejects the world which waddles and revels in iniquity! And because there is an evident distinction between God and man, He is able to love all the world without succumbing to its snares and enticements (Matthew 4:1-1-11), while, simulatenousely, warning us not to get caught up in the entanglemens of the world's lures... Did God forbid us to love the world as He does?... a resounding, NO! We are commanded to pray for the world , to love, in Christ, the world, to bring peace, Christ's peace, to the world, to offer the world the Light of God. (Matthew 5:43-48; 5:14-16; John 14:27; 2 Corinthians 5:20 thru 6:10; Romans 10:14-15; Matthew 28:18-20) So we are to love the world, in Christ Jesus, while not becoming lovers of the world and all of its revelries and orgies (sex, money, power, hate, anger, gluttony ...) which lead us away from God and places us in enmity against God's Might, Judgment and Wrath! (Revelation 6:15-17) God Bless! Angel |

32 | Whats the point? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 150808
Hi, Katebote! I doubt that anyone here knows about a site that can produce miracles at will--though Jesus tells us that Satan will do just that... I don't think that anyone is afraid of having their feelings hurt... I think that most people on this forum are concerned with shearing the Holy Scripture as the Word of God... sadly, in order to understand this a person coming to this forum must be willing to learn that the Bible is not simply a collection of books, but God's own Word! If a person comes here looking to satisfy his/her curiosity by applying human terms and idologies they will simply get what they came in with--predetermined philosophies... for instance, hollow wood preaches that when evil threatens the world God uses the most wicked and vile people to rescue humanity... this of course is sacrilege as it denies Christ's Incarnation: the Just rescuing man from death; it is also a wonderful spin for all who pretend to want to be Christians yet continue a life of sin without remorse, repentance or obedience to God. You say you need to talk about the Bible in truth... however, this post attests to "your truth" not the Bible's... since you reject God as the Creator and Author by rejecting His Word as the exact Truth! Jesus is the Life and the Truth--where are you to go to find the truth if not in the persona of Christ? He is the one that made everything that exists... everything that exists was made by Him and for Him... He Commands us to Believe in Him and He will set us free (from anything and everything, including our finite understanding)... If you are looking for God's revelation to you in an all out shattering explosive exclusive... God is not interested... the Hebrews were rescued from Egypt way back when and no more is there need for the Red Sea to be parted... John the Baptist came and so did the Immanuel (Emmanuel) so there will be no further intervension from the Holy Spirit to create a new superior prophet (John) or for the Word to be incarnated... Humble yourself to God and He will lift you up! (James 4:10) Remove all hollow woodsy interpretations of God from your mind; humble yourself to the Holy Spirit; quest to get to know Him--not to have Him prove Himself to you; allow His Word to kindle that fire that you are so passionately seeking... He is not far from you, He is in your heart, in your mind, in your body, in your soul! Listen to the Holy Spirit and He will guide you to the Truth: 38Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you." 39He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. (Matthew 12:38-39) Feel free to continue posting; if nothing else, you might get familiar with the Holy Scripture as you study the various passages that will be cited to you. God Bless! Angel |

33 | Verses in bible depicting Jesus as God? | Matt 4:10 | JCrichton | 150805
Hi! I am posting part of a recent reply I gave on this topic: Jesus IS God! John tells us that the Word was with God and that the Word is God... that all that exist was created by Him and that He is the Light of the world, the Life incarnate which came to His own, upon their rejection He gave all who believe in Him the power to become children of God. (John 1;1-14) Yahweh testifies, through His prophets, that Joshua, Christos, the Anointed, is coming to the world and that He is the Emmanuel (God-with-us--which is an ancient prophecy made by God that He will come and walk/live among His people)... among His other titles are: "Mighty God," "Eternal Father," and "Prince of Piece!" Jesus was called Master (Rabbi or Rabbuni) and even those who rejected Him would still recognize that He spoke the truth and that His teaching had full authority... so it is not difficult to understand that His disciples and those who would hear Him were able to understand that there was someone greater than themselves among them... yet even those who did not know Him that intimately undestood that He was God: Elizabeth (and her son), Mary's relative (Luke 1:39-44), the magi (Matthew 2:1-11), Satan (Matthew 4:1-11), Satan's minions (Mark 5:1-13), His disciples (Matthew 16:16; 28:9; 14:33; John 16:25-30; 20:20), the Father (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; Luke 3:22; Hebrews 1:8-12), the Father's Heavenly servants (Revelatin 5:7-14), and finally the Father and the Son (Revelation 21:3-6; 22:12 and 1:7-18)... It was no simple revelation that Christ made when He told His disciples that when they have seen Him they've seen the Father... the Father and the Son are inseparable, how can we expect to serve the One sitting on the Throne and not the One next to Him? The four living creatures, the elders and the angels make no exception because they know that God is God and that there's no subdivision in the Eternal One! (Revelation 21:22 thru 22:5) If you need additional passages, just let me know and I'll gladly assist you! God Bless! Angel |

34 | Was Naomi bitter towards God | Ruth 1:14 | JCrichton | 150804
Hi, Bigida2! It is easy to get confused with Scripture if we separate one verse from the rest of Scripture... true Naomi speaks on her situation as being dejected by God but her spiritual state is that of a loving and obedient servant: 8 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go back, each of you, to your mother's home. May the LORD show kindness to you, as you have shown to your dead and to me. 9 May the LORD grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband." (Ruth 1:8-9) Notice her generosity and her continued faithfulness to the Lord--if her bitterness was against God, would she not take advantage of her two daughters-in-law (she had no male protector so she could use them to gain favor from some prospective courters)? And, if she were begrudging God, why would she bless her daughters-in-law in His name? The people of Israel attributed all incidents to God, even those that were of negative outcome... the death of her husband and sons could only be seen as God's dejection... still, as Abraham, Naomi did not question God and she was rewarded in Ruth! 35 | So HOW do you walk in the Spirit ? | Gal 5:16 | JCrichton | 150798
Hi! Read Galatians 5:16 in conjunction with Galatians 5:17-26: 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. To walk in the Spirit is to humble ourselves to God's Will by emulating and obeying Christ! God Bless! Angel |

36 | Homosexuality, sin or not? | Lev 20:13 | JCrichton | 150498
Hi, Liberty Belle! I am not sure if you have come back to view the various replies that your post originated... some are clearly supportive of the people that erroneously detracted truth from the Holy Scripture and replaced it with their version of God's Word... Here is Genesis description of Sodom: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD. (Genesis 13:12-13) There's no room for interpretations: Sodom, bad! Genesis 18:16-33 describes Abraham's intercesion on behalf of Sodom... it got to the point that Abraham asked God if He would desist from destroying Sodom if there were to be found in it at least 10 innocent/righteous people... the Lord said He would--Sodom was destroyed! "(sorry, I don't have the scripture)" There's no Biblical Scripture that anyone can use to promote or exonerate homosexuality... the least passage would be the one which I suspect was used, with their own twisted spin: 1 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning." "No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square." 3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." 6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof." 9 "Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door. 10 But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. (Genesis 19:1-10) When we read the Holy Scripture we can clearly state that: A) The angels were guests of Lot, no one else needed to extend their hospitability to them--so clearly there is no sin against inhospitability here! (Genesis 19:3) B) The men of Sodom were up to no good as they mobbed Lot's house (19:4) C) The men of Sodom were if not completely homosexuals they were at least bisexual--and they were out of control... it was not a proposition of or or two who found Lot's male guests desirable... it was the whole mob (19:5) D) Lot attempts to persuade them not to commit such wicked act (having sex with his male guests) (Genesis 19:7) E) Believing that he should protect his guests at all costs, Lot offers his virgin daughters so that they may do anything that they wanted (sexually) to them in exchange of leaving his male guests in peace (19:8) F) They would not have it! These men were not interested in having sex (forced or otherwise) with anyone other than Lot's male guests... they were so incensed that they rushed the door (to break it down) while threatening that they would do worst things to Lot (another male person) than what they had planned to do to his male guests (19:9) There's no way that homosexual intercourse was not what these men were lusting after... they even passed up the opportunity of having sex with two young ladies who had never had sex (virgins) before... they were ready to break down the door so that they could perform their homosexual acts on Lot's guests... An avocado may be a fruit, but no amount of twisting and coaching can make it so that we can bake an apple pie with it: homosexuality, BAD! God Bless! Angel |

37 | who chose the books of the bible | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 150476
Excerpts from www.barley.com (the Columbia Encyclopedia): The original Old Testament canon was the Septuagint, long used in the Greek-speaking church and still retained by the Orthodox churches. This Hellenistic Jewish translation originated with the translation of the Pentateuch in the mid-3d cent. B.C. Later translations were made from it or patterned after it. The canon of the Septuagint included the books of the later Hebrew canon, with the addition of several others, most of which were those now reckoned deuterocanonical by Roman Catholics and apocryphal by Protestants. Dispute over the canonicity of these books has its source in the Latin Bible, which found its official form in the Vulgate, the work of St. Jerome; this largely agreed with the list of books of the Septuagint, and the list and order of the Vulgate was the canon accepted by the Western Church of the Middle Ages. The 27 books of the New Testament represent only a portion of early Christian literature (see patristic literature). There are other gospels, epistles, narratives, and apocalypses among the Pseudepigrapha and in the Nag Hammadi corpus. The selection of books considered canonical, i.e., authoritative, evolved over the first four centuries of the Christian era. The first canon was compiled by the heretic Marcion in the mid-2d cent. Marcion accepted only the letters of Paul (though not Titus or First and Second Timothy) and a truncated version of the Gospel of St. Luke. The earliest extant orthodox list is the Muratorian canon (c.190 or possibly later), which contains most of the books finally accepted as canonical. There was, however, dispute for some time over seven books (Hebrews, James, Second Peter, Second and Third John, Jude, and Revelation) eventually included in the canon, and over others (including the letters of Ignatius of Antioch, First Clement, the Shepherd of Hermas, the Epistle of Barnabas (see Barnabas, Saint, and the Didache). The present New Testament canon appears for the first time in the Festal Letter of St. Athanasius (367). The criterion was that works written by an apostle or by a colleague of one could be trusted to preserve the authentic apostolic witness to Jesus. The traditional view has been that a canonical work must also be divinely inspired. All major Christian traditions use the same New Testament. Apocrypha (Gr.,-hidden things), term signifying a collection of early Jewish writings excluded from the canon of the Hebrew scriptures. It is not clear why the term was chosen. The Apocrypha include the following books and parts of books: First and Second Esdras; Tobit; Judith; the Additions to Esther; Wisdom of Solomon; Sirach (also called Ecclesiasticus); Baruch; the Letter of Jeremiah (in Baruch); parts of Daniel (the Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three Young Men; see also Bel and the Dragon and Susanna 1); First and Second Maccabees; the Prayer of Manasses (see Manasseh). All are included in the Septuagint, with the exception of 2 Esdras-4 Ezra. However, they were not included in the Hebrew canon (ratified c.A.D. 100). In 1566 the collection was deemed “deutero-canonical” by the Roman Catholic Church, meaning that their canonicity was recognized only after a period of time. Protestants follow Jewish tradition in regarding all these books as non-canonical. Jewish and Christian works resembling biblical books, but not included among the Apocrypha, are collected in the Pseudepigrapha. The term Apocrypha is sometimes applied to early Christian writings that were once considered canonical by some but are not in the New Testament. Hope this helps! God Bless! Angel |

38 | The Bible, Creators word or what? | 2 Tim 3:16 | JCrichton | 150463
Hi, Kate! Can you imagine people from the 14th century speaking about a super computer that has remote access, DVDR, with a Pentium or what ever chip and with 200 Gigabites of RAM? Now take that back a few thousand years... here's this messenger complaining that his boss refuses to give a cell phone with a built-in camera... get the picture? The Bible is not an unabridge farmer's almanac... it is Salvation History... it is the Word of God full of doctrinal teachings and prophecies... full of revelations and warnings... all dealing with our spiritual well-being! God has revealed enough for the human mind to ponder and asimilate... we are called to learn about God through His Word... but God is intertwined with the Holy Scripture so we must depend on His revelation, through the Holy Spirit, to gain understanding of the Truth! But no one can convict us of God's existence! No one can convict us of God's Word! We must humble ourselves to God and He will make Himself known (1 Peter 5:6-11): If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5) God has allowed you and I to know Him through His Word and through the world around us: 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:19-32) Ultimately, though, it is up to us to believe or not believe: 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." (John 3:14-21) Christ is God and this is what He says about the Word: 47"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. (John 12:47-48) I will pray that the Holy Spirit enlinghten and guide you to the Truth: Jesus! God Bless! Angel |
