Hi Kalos, I was just curious, does your MacArthur Study Bible give any additional info on why John MacArthur teaches that those raised at Jesus' death were not raised in eternal bodies? I was not aware that the Scripture specified whether they were or not. Just wondering . . . Love in Christ, Mark |

204 | Gen 19:16 | Gen 19:16 | mark d seyler | 183103
Hi Becky, And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. The key phrase here is "and they brought him forth, and set him with out the city." Brought and set are in the form of these actions happening to Lot and his family. But what exactly this means we can only speculate. Lot was dithering, and the angels removed him. By taking his hand and walking through the city gate? By supernaturally whisking them through the sky over the wall? I don't know. I suppose you could say that the angels weren't waiting any longer, and they used however much for they needed to for Lot's and and family's removal. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

205 | Could someone explain proverbs 31 to me. | Prov 31:1 | mark d seyler | 183100
This is a son rehearsing the instruction his mother taught him. Simply put, this is of: 1. Responsible living in consideration of his station in life. 2. The responsibilties of a leader of the people. 3. The value and description of a good wife. While this is certainly oversimplified, I think that what Lemuel's mother wanted him to understand was that these are certain things you should avoid, but these others, these are things you should want, and of all these, to be married to a good woman is right up there at the top. To which I would give a hearty "Amen!" Love in Christ, Mark |

206 | First rain and first rainbow | Gen 9:13 | mark d seyler | 183096
Shalom, Azure, There in no mention of rain prior to the flood, and since we have the explanation of the mist, I expect that the first time it rained was the flood, but this is, admitedly, an argument from silence. I would further expect that the same mist that watered in Eden watered all the land. I would, however, say that it is entirely possible in my opinion that it may have rained prior to the flood. I don't see anything in Scripture that prohibits that view. My answer is simply based on how I read it. In Gen 9:13, the sign of God's covenant is the bow in the clouds. He says, specifically, "I do set my bow in the cloud." From this I gather that whether or not a "rainbow" had been seen before in the mists, or a waterfall, it hadn't been seen yet in a cloud. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

207 | 144,000 men Vs. the meek and heaven | Rev 5:10 | mark d seyler | 183094
Hi Lory, Revelation 5:10 is from the song sung by the 24 elders, who are seated around God's throne. The 144,000 have not been introduced into Scripture yet at this point. Revelation 7:3-8 introduces the 144,000 sealed Jews. These are the firstfruits, or those first saved, from the Seventieth Week of Daniel (compare with ch 14). Rev. 7:9 introduces yet a different group, who is suddenly appearing in heaven as the 144,000 are being sealed on earth. This innumerable multitude is, I believe, the newly raptured church. These will return to earth with Jesus at the end of the final 7 years, to live upon the earth with the faithful remnant of Israel, and those who survived the tribulation and judgment. So there are the 24 elders around the throne in heaven. No information is given about who these are, or what will become of them. There are the 144,000 sealed Jews. These are saved and protected at the beginning of the Seventieth Week (the "Tribulation" as it is commonly called). These will join with Jesus before the throne in heaven half-way through the Seventieth Week, and will apparently return with Jesus at its end, to live with Him upon the earth. There is the innumerable multitude. These are in heaven, and will go where the lamb goes, and so will return with Him to the earth. There will also be those martyred during the Seventieth Week. These will be resurrected at the end of the final 7 years. One thing to remember is that Jesus will rule upon the earth for 1000 years, and the faithful will be with Him. In the eternal state, God and faithful man will live together, in an existance apparently both heavenly and earthly at once. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions concerning this. Love in Christ, Mark |

209 | who are the sons of God | Gen 6:2 | mark d seyler | 183083
Hi lionheart! I couldn't agree with you more than I do! I do more study beginning with word searches than in any other way. If a key word in a Scripture appears 400 times in the Bible, I will look at 400 verses to see how it is used. It takes time, but the results are worth it. And I truly thank the LORD for computers and Bible software, else it would take a lot longer! Love in Christ, mark |

210 | how do you feel about my previous postin | Gen 6:2 | mark d seyler | 183082
Hi Russ, This is a response concerning your previous post. What happens in the future concerning faithful angels or faithful resurrected humanity does not determine what may or may not have happened concerning unfaithful angels in the past. The argument that angels procreating with humans is outside of the natural order agrees with Scripture, and that is why they are punished. The “biology” or workmanship of angels is not explained in Scripture. I disagree that the Book of Enoch is required to show this understanding. I believe that it is fully supported by Scripture alone, and I never referrence the Book of Enoch as substantiation of any teaching, aside from the small portion quoted by Jude. Satan is said to be able to “transform himself into an angel of light.” Angels have often appeared as men, sometimes eating our food with us. The Bible does not specifiy what powers or abilities angels do or don’t have, beyond certain limited referrences that are not presented as exhaustive. Fallen angels have deceived mankind in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. Jesus prophesied that many false christs shall appear and will deceive many. But Jesus died, and rose again, and that is presented in the Bible as something only He will do. He fulfilled prophecies that were not able to be fulfilled by anyone other than the Messiah. Jesus was attested to in ways that no other man or spirit can be. Many agree with your view concerning this incident. But none (that I am aware of) agreed with it prior to around 300 AD, when the historical-grammatical literal interpretation of Scripture began to be abandoned for a more interpretive, allegorical style. This incident in particular was deemed difficult to defend to the scoffers, and so it’s defense was discarded. There is not, again, to my knowledge, any record prior to this time that these “sons of God” were any other than fallen angels, and were actually the “sons of Seth.” I hope this will serve as an adequate answer for you. Thank you for asking! Love in Christ, Mark |

211 | What does 1 Cor 13:10, mean? | 1 Cor 13:9 | mark d seyler | 183075
Hi Edwin, I would like to add a slightly larger context to this discussion, if I may. Paul has been writing about the spiritual gifts. Chapter 12 verse 7 is what I believe to be a key verse in this discussion. "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." Romans 12 takes this same viewpoint, that God gives spiritual abilities to us so that using those abilities we can serve each other. Paul then teaches concerning these gifts, but then he takes it to the next level. He says, desire the greater gifts, but I show you a more excellent way. No matter what gift I have, without love, it's meaningless. Love in the main thing. The gifts are incomplete, and when the complete is come (compare to Eph. 4:1-16), the fully matured and finished body of Christ, these incomplete gifts will be done away with, but love will remain. For we know (word of knowledge) in part, and we prophesy (gift of prophecy) in part, but when that which is perfect (teleios - having reach its end - finished - complete) is come, that which is in part will be done away. You want to prophesy, you want word of knowledge. These are more, shall I say, flamboyant than, say, the gift of helps. Its good to want gifts that edify the body, but its far better that you should love. These gifts will pass away, but love never fails. So seek foremost to love, but also desire the spiritual gifts (14:1), as the tools to put action into your love. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

212 | It shall come to pass in the last days | Rev 1:1 | mark d seyler | 183073
Referring to Revelateion 1:1 ". . . the things which must soon take place. . . " Quote: "'This Greek clause is often used by pretribulationists to support their argument of imminency," This statement was recently made in an answer to a question concerning the Greek "en tachei", "in quickness". As an avid student of prophecy, I am not aware of any Pre-Tribulation Rapture teacher who uses this verse to support the idea that the Bible teaches us that the rapture could happen at any time, and that there are no visible signs or events that will precede it. If there are any that use this verse in this way, even so, it is certainly not the prevalent position. This is a statement from John Walvoord in commentary of this verse: "That which Daniel declared would occur "in the latter days" is here described as "shortly" (Gr., en tachei), that is, "quickly or suddenly coming to pass," indicating rapidity of execution after the beginning takes place. The idea is not that the event may occur soon, but that when it does, it will be sudden (cf. Luke 18:8; Acts 12:7; 22:18; 25:4; Rom. 16:20). A similar word, tachys, is translated "quickly" seven times in Revelation (2:5, 16; 3:11; 11:14; 22:7, 12, 20)." Thomas Ice referrences this quote as well in hes writings, showing his agreement with that understanding. These two gentlemen are unquestionable two of the strongest and most widely known proponents of the Pre-Trib rapture among those serious students of this view. Tim LaHaye and J. Dwight Pentacost are also in agreement with this understanding, that Rev. 1:1 is not to be understood as showing the timing of these events, but rather the nature in which they happen. So while Van Kampen claims that his interpretation of "en tachei" is in disagreement with pre-trib rapture teaching, in fact it is not, and as such, this is a "straw man" argument. It is irrelevant to the discussion, and presents a false view of the opposing side. At best, he is taking a minority view and persenting it as mainstream, although, personally, I am not aware of any generally recognized pre-trib rapture teacher who teaches this verse as Van Kampen claims. 213 | in verse 26 whose will God's or Satan's | 2 Tim 2:26 | mark d seyler | 182994
Hi bjandy, The pronouns used are singular masculine, which is the same form as "the devil", which is the closest occuring noun. Based on that I would say that it is the devil's will that some have been held captive to do. I see that the Amplified Bible disagrees with this, but that is my understanding of Greek grammer. Welcome to the forum! Love in Christ, Mark |

214 | The "measure" of Faith | Rom 12:3 | mark d seyler | 182989
Hi Ginger, This simply means God has given us each a measured amount. There is nothing to indicate how much that measure is. Several times the Bible speaks of us increasing our faith. I wonder that we use the full measure of faith we've been given. So what is the mountain in your life? I know what they are in mine, at least some. Let's move them! Love in Christ, Mark |

220 | God's motives at Endor | 1 Sam 28:12 | mark d seyler | 182872
Hi Freddie, I don't think that we can know the reason why God allowed Samuel to speak to Saul. Saul had been asking for guidance, and Samuel did not give Saul guidance. Samuel simply pronounced God's judgment against Saul, but did not comply with Saul's request. So it's not like Saul was able to receive guidance through a medium while he couldn't on his own, but God did allow Samuel to come to him for the purpose of rebuke. Why? I don't know. I hope this helps anyway! Love in Christ, mark |
