201 | The table of nations from Noah's sons | Acts 17:26 | itiswritten | 29105
In Genesis 11:10 we have the beginnings of the geneaologies of the nations. The nations all have come from one of three sons of Noah. Does anyone have a good listing by which we can clearly see the nations today and which son of Noah they are from?
202 | The table of nations from Noah's sons | Acts 17:26 | itiswritten | 29149
Thank you Nolan Keck. I am looking for something like a chart. I used to have a book on linguistics and the study of Hebrew that had some pie-charts showing, according to languages and ancient names, how the ancient names related to modern nations. I cannot find the book and I thought it would be great as an illustration for Bible Study when we cover Genesis 10-11 and the Tower of Babel. I know it gets very complicated but it helps in getting a little understanding of the real division of the races according to Noah's three sons and where their families migrated after the Tower of Babel incident.
203 | Faith and Works: Paul vs. James | Rom 4:3 | itiswritten | 81046
I don't know if this will help, but this is the way I understand it. We are justified if we believe God. No good works can add up to that same justification. Only Faith. However, if we DO believe, we will act like we believe. So, our actions should be different than they were before we believed. If we still act like we did before we believed there is no evidence in our faith. But the works do not justify...they only show what has happened inside of us. If we say "I believe that a person can get in a barrel and survive going over Niagra Falls" ... then we should be willing to get into the barrel. I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten. |

204 | "If" small word, BIG DEAL | Rom 8:17 | itiswritten | 90590
Dear KCEvangelist, Well this is just a comment on your observation. I agree that the IF does have a huge significance. Often, as Christians, many tend to be so "submissive," so "timid," so "meek," in their way of thinking that they don't assert with boldness what is truly intended. IF we are his children (and many claim this to be true) then we ought to also realize the great privileges we have. However, in the kingdom and indeed, in the natural universe that God has created, privilege ALWAYS comes with equal responsibilities. (Luke 14:27-28) Remember, Jesus said to "count the cost." At least this is my observation. Itiswritten |

205 | "If" small word, BIG DEAL | Rom 8:17 | itiswritten | 92017
Dear KCEvangelist, I would not say we are saved by our ACTIONS. We are saved by faith. However, if we believe we will act a certain way just as we would act a certain way if we did not believe. Now the Bible also tells us that we were saved FOR certain good works (read Ephesians 2:10 and James 2: 2-18). It is inevitable that if we live according to what we believe that persecution and/or affliction will come. There are also promises that God gives us that require certain "works" and certain blessings will come for those who fulfill the responsibilities required. "Give, and IT SHALL BE GIVEN UNTO YOU," and read about the fast that God has chosen rather than our depriving ourselves of food and see also the promises attached to "God's Fast." (read Isaiah 58:5-14). If we do little to nothing concerning our "faith" we are in danger because it says in Revelation 3:15-16- "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Itiswritten. |

206 | Don't associate with Christians who sin? | 1 Cor 5:11 | itiswritten | 84660
Dear Cwade, In John 6:44 the Word of God tells us that "No man can come to me (Jesus), unless the Father draw him/her: and I will raise him/her up on the last day." So, in answer to your question, if I were you I would dissasociate myself unless and until the Lord clearly direct you otherwise and meanwhile pray with all my heart that the "Father draw them." People do not get saved unless and until they feel the need for it. They need to come to a place in their life where they experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit that they are sinners and need saving. No amount of lecturing by well meaning friends or relatives will get them there. Never underestimate the power of sincere prayers. And, when we pray, we must pray according to His will. It is always in His will for a person to be saved. Do this with your whole heart and you will be amazed to see what the Lord may do. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

207 | Doubt their salvation? | 1 Cor 5:11 | itiswritten | 84671
Dear Cwade, Concerning the salvation of your friends, I do not know. I can only go by what the Word of God tells me and the judgment is up to Him. However, if they insist on living they way you say they do, it would be better for you not to "hang out with them," by what the Word of God cautions us. The thing is this: a Christian will sin from time to time, but one cannot call oneself a Christian and commit to a lifestyle that is of sin. Under temptation, a Christian may commit adultery, feel terrible about it, repent, ask the Lord for forgiveness and get up and go forward. But to live in sin, or to live in a lifestyle of sin...that is another issue. The great Billy Graham put it this way in a book of his that I read a long time ago. He told a story about what it means to be born again. He said there were two row boats. They were in the same river as everyone in this world is in the same river. The people of this world were in the row boat that went along easily with the current (or went along with what is politically correct, so to speak) and the other was the row boat of the born again believers of God. They were going in the same river but in the opposite direction of the current, struggling against the tide. Jesus gave us the parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew 13:24-30. This shows us that it is very difficult to tell the difference between a maybe immature Christian, for example, and a fake one. Jesus also tells us in Matthew 7:13-20. What is the fruit of their doings? If it is sinful, it is not of God. If it produces strife, disobedience to the commandments of God, etc...what is their fruit? Whether they profess to be Christians or not, we know them by their fruit. Whether they are "saved" or not, their lifestyles tell us that they are in danger of hell-fire. So, they need prayer. By the sincere prayers of one who really cares, one who does belong to the Lord, they may yet be saved or reinstated into proper standing the household of God, whatever is appropriate which God only knows. If they are saved, according to what Paul tells us, and they persist in sin, they will reap terrible things in this world in order to retain their salvation (I Cor. 5:1-6). We can not feel safe in our assumptions that a person is a Christian because they belong to a Church because today as it was even in the early days of the faith, many mainline churches have accepted what the Word of God says is not in any way acceptable. (see Matthew 7:21, Romans 1:21-32). The word of God also warns us about those who accepted the Lord and turned back to their old ways. You can read about this in 2 Peter 2 and Matthew 13: 18-23. Which category your friends are under is not for me to say, neither do I wish to. But If you look at the example of the early church fathers...it would not be tolerated in the fellowship of the faith. I do not condemn - I caution and I encourage you to continue to pray for them. Depending on what the situation in fact is, you may be the one and only person who cares enough to really make the difference for them. I hope this answers your question. Sincerely, Itiswritten. |

208 | made alive with christ? | 2 Corinthians | itiswritten | 90592
Dear Nonoy10469, As the Scripture implies, since all of us die because of the first Adam, in Christ, the second Adam, we can be made alive again. This is also what water baptism signifies...when we go under the water it symbolizes death and the leaving of the old life, and when we come up it signifies coming up into the new life.(II Cor. 5:17). I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

209 | A fanatic, a zealot or a prophet? | Titus 1:1 | itiswritten | 204950
I have also experienced a similar situation. I have led a woman's Bible study for over 25 years. Many of the women who have been involved were new believers and I tend to be very protective toward them. For about 15 years I struggled with a woman who seemed to have prophetic gifts and was very demonstrative and vocal. She tended to manipulate and meddle and try to tell people what to do, but she would use the Word of the Lord and had supernatural insights that were hard to ignore. I struggled with judging her, yet I would constantly have to correct her with the Word when she would seem to go way too far in telling some of the less mature women what the "Lord" wanted them to do. It kept me on my toes ALL the time. Often I felt as though she was trying to shove a whole turkey down the throat of a new born babe and giving them tasks that they were yet unable to achieve, setting them up for unattainable "works" from which they may truly find as stumbling block to their spiritual growth. I love the Word of God and I use my gift of teaching His Word always with love and the leading of the Holy Spirit...not my own agenda. I would have to constantly have to call her on her actions concerning other members and I would go to the Lord on this many times. She was big on displaying tongues, prophecy etc. but I felt she did not have enough respect for the Word nor did she seem to hem herself in by it. She was rude, she was self-serving, she would do things that would cause the women's families to become upset...particularly husbands. Yet she KNEW things that could only be known supernaturally. One day the Lord finally answered my prayers for what was I dealing with. I can't believe I didn't see it all that time as it was clearly in His Word all along. The Lord called me by name and said You don't know them by their power, but by their fruit. I cannot explain why I was so deceived for so long when, as a "teacher" of His Word, I should have realized much sooner. Here is the Scripture: Matthew 7: 15-20 NKJV, [15] Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. [16] You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? [17] Even so, every good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit. [18] A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. [19] Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. [20] THEREFORE BY THEIR FRUITS YOU WILL KNOW THEM. Her supernatural abilities and showy, pushy and dominant personality were such that they blinded me from realizing my judgment should be discerned by judging her fruit. Whether deliberate or misguided, though she may even have believed that she was hearing from the Lord, she often was not. (Psychics also often believe their gift is from God yet it is demonic), or she may be hearing from her own spirit. Whatever the case may be probably because she was negligent in her respect for His Word, she was led astray and causing havoc in the lives of others in the body of Christ. |

210 | How do I relate this scripture to women | Titus 2:3 | itiswritten | 82435
Dear Jabezperkins, Once children have grown and left the nest many women find that they have a lot more time on their hands. It takes a lot of time and attention to raise a family. The extra time can be a temptation to partying or getting too involved in other person's business which can lead to gossip. It would be better to turn one's excess energies toward the Lord's work in some way and to help other younger women in their walk with the Lord by the things they have learned through their own experience in raising their children. That's just some of my thoughts. I hope this would inspire some direction for your talk, though it be little. Itiswritten |

211 | petethemete, answer 1 John 1:8. | 1 John 1:8 | itiswritten | 77823
I believe that 1 John 1:8 means that we must repent in order to become saved. Many who are raised in the church are not saved and that is because they think they are righteous because they think they are living up to the standards of their given denomination - one which they may have been born into. Unless we come to a realization that we cannot live up to God's standard, we will feel no need to repent of anything. We will be under the delusion that we are righteous. It says in John 6:44 that unless the Father draws a person to Himself, they cannot come and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us realize our need to repent. We who are saved have realized that we fall short [Romans 3:23]of God's perfection and have turned away from our sins in order to walk with the Lord. Those who have sincerely done this, walk in the righteousness of Christ [Romans 3:22][Heb. 7:26; 2 Cor. 5:21]. You may see "practices sin" in these verses and I think that really is the same in the sense that if a person hasn't come to an awakening that they need to repent, they obviously will continue to "practice sin." This is what I think of 1 John 1:8 and I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten. |

Dear 13599, That is like asking 'Why is the sky blue?' I don't know but it does say that the number is the number of a man. Rev. 13:18. The sixes seem to represent the flesh or physical creation. I don't know if you would consider that any kind of answer, but I thought I would point that out and see if that in any way gives you something. Itiswritten |

213 | need info on the book of life | Rev 3:5 | itiswritten | 88676
Dear Uniqueone49, In Revelation 3: 1-6, there is mentioned the Book of Life in Christ's letter to the church at Sardis. It is also mentioned in Philippians 4. It is again mentioned in Revelation 13:8, Rev. 17:8,20:20, 21:27 and 22:19. In all these cases it tells us that those written in the book of life will have eternal life and those who are not will not share in eternal life with God. It tells us that those who do not ovecome will be taken out of the book of life. It also speaks of those who are in the book of life, that their works will be judged. I hope this is helpful to you...not so much what I have to say but that it will give you easy reference to see these scriptures and the verses around them for yourself. Itiswritten |
