203 | What was the purpose of circumcision? | Gen 17:10 | Val | 223307
Gen 17:11 "And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. The purpose of the covenant is for a "sign". There are many interesting books on covenants. Most times there was a blood covenant. These covenants were practiced in most societies. |

205 | Does Jesus die for Gentile's sins too? | Gen 18:18 | Val | 214145
The first mention is in Genesis 18:18. Christ the Messiah is the same God of the Old Testament. When we look at Jesus we are looking at God. He called himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His line can be traced back to Abraham. He chose Abraham and his descendants to be His people and He would be their God. He said in you, Abraham, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. This is referring to the fact that when Christ the Messiah came, people would be saved who called upon His name. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. In bible study we consider the whole counsel of God, 66 books to know Him and His plan of redemption. Read all of the bible. There are some believers who make it a practice to read the bible through at least once a year. It can be read through in about three months. Before making final conclusions we have to read all 66 books. Sincerely, Val |

206 | what was the sodomites knowledge of God, | Gen 19:14 | Val | 197878
All of mankind came from the three sons of Noah so it would be evident that this event in history would be verbally passed down to the next generation. The reasons why God distroyed all people but the household of Noah should have been enough to make anyone fear the Lord. Gen 10:1 Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood. |

207 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | Val | 214918
It may have been because Abraham wanted to know how it was that God would bless all the families of the earth through his seed as promised in genesis 12:3. John 8:56 may refer to Abraham's understanding for in offering his son,ABrahM would have had a lively figure of the future offering of the SOn of God as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. Bibleman, I strongly suggest it is your obligation to call the authorites and advise them of the state of your friend. The local police or sheriff's office need to be called immediately before any harm is done to human life. Do not delay, this is serious.
209 | sons of Korah | Gen 36:5 | Val | 205767
There are six different descriptions of people called Korah, Korahites, and Korhites. They are as follows: 1. The son of Esau by Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the son of Zibion the Hivite (Gen 36:5,14,18;1 Chron 1:35). 2. The son of Eliphaz, the son of Esau by Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite (Gen 36:16). 3. The son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi (Ex 6:21,24) who rose up against Moses and Aaron with 250 leaders of the congregation charging them with exalting themselves above the assembly of the Lord, Numbers 16, 26, Deuteronomy 11:6, Psalm 106:16-18. 4. The son of Hebron, son of Mareshah, son of Caleb, son of Hezron, the son of Perez whom Tamar, the daughter in law, bore to Judah (1 Chron 2:43) 5. The grandson of Kohath, son of Levi (1 Chhron 6:37), Psalms 42-49, 84, 85, 87, 88 are given the superscription as "belonging to the Sons of Korah." It is probable that these originated among this guild of singers and were perhaps, sun by them in the worship of the Temple. In 2 Chronicles 20:19 when Jehoshaphat came before God,"the Levites, the Kohathitites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the Lord". Shallum, one of the gatekeepers appointed by David, was also a descendant of Korah. 1 Chronicles 9:19,31. 6. Five of the men from the tribe of Benjamin who joined David at Ziglag were called Korahites (1 Chron 12:6), which suggests the possibility of Korah also being a geographical name. 211 | Psalms 1:2-3? | Exodus | Val | 199138
Nandi, there is a wealth of resources at Preceptaustin on the web where you may find many helps on Psalms 1 as well as other scriptures. I am thinking that the waters were possibly placed there to water the garden and the creatures, the account is found in Genesis. We know that the Lord Jesus Christ is referred to as water when he told the women at the well that whoever drank of Him would never thirst again. Praise the Lord. See the gospels for this account. 212 | Resurrection Day, not easter! | Exodus | Val | 215236
Dear Humility, stop slamming the Roman Catholics. This is not the place for that. There are many posts on the Sabbath if you would like to search and review them. Meanwhile the comment you made about James 2:10-12 is reinterating that we are all sinners in need of a Saviour. James 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism James 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. James 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well. James 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. Sincerely, Val |

214 | Jethron and daughter went in and out! | Ex 1:1 | Val | 198307
Grace, I will try to answer your question. Moses killed an Egyptian and fled to the wilderness. He was not known by the Egyptians until he was sent to Egpyt to lead his people out of bondage under the Egyptians. They were slaves there and worked on buildings and things serving Pharoah. There was no reason for the Egyptians to go into the wilderness as they had it made so to speak in Egypt. Besides the wilderness was mostly dry and barren so it was not a place people wanted to go to. I believe the Red Sea was opened up and swallowed those Egyptian soldiers who pursued Moses and his people when Pharoah let them go after God had served them with plagues and the last plague of the killing of the firstborn. There was probably more than one way to cross over into Egypt without going across the Red Sea, I suppose they could have went around. So anyone could go and come as they pleased. I hope I have helped you Grace. May God bless you. Grace and Peace, Val |

216 | Book of Exodus | Ex 1:1 | Val | 213958
They were the descendants of Jacob also known as Israel. Joseph, Jacob's son, was sold into slavery and later found favor with Pharoah and was in charge of Pharoah's affairs. Abraham was called by God to a land flowing with milk and honey. He was also told of the 400 years bondage in Egypt. He was also told that God would bring his descendants out of Egypt. The main theme is that God made a covenant with Abraham to give him this land forever. Joseph and all of his brothers died in Egypt but the promise also known as covenant was for Abraham's descendants. God called Moses to lead them out of Egypt. We see that the people in bondage in Egypt knew their God as they cried out to Him in their affliction from the taskmasters and God sent word to them by Moses and his brother Aaron that He had heard them and was going to deliver them. 218 | God sought Moses to kill him | Ex 4:24 | Val | 198253
This is in answer to your first question; "why did God seek to kill Moses". Looking back at the covenant of circumcism in Genesis we see the warning of being cut off if one violates the covenant. In 17:10 "This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. Gen 17:11 "And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. Gen 17:12 "And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants. Gen 17:13 "A servant who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. Gen 17:14 "But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant." We are not told why while in Egypt Moses didn't circumcise the baby but Zipporah (his wife) remembered. Ex 4:25 Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin and threw it at Moses' feet, and she said, "You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me." Ex 4:26 So He let him alone. At that time she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood"--because of the circumcision. Do a word study on Pharoah and you will see that he worshiped idols and hardened his own heart first. May God bless you, Grace and Peace Val |

Numbers 15:32-36 - "The poor man" was according to the verses surrounding these verses, was defiant, blaspheming the Lord, and despising the word of the Lord and the consequences is laid out - shall be cut off. Num 15:30 'But the person who does anything defiantly, whether he is native or an alien, that one is blaspheming the LORD; and that person shall be cut off from among his people. Num 15:31 'Because he has despised the word of the LORD and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt will be on him.'" Num 15:32 Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day. |
