Hi Melissa, Per Lockman, "Postings must be Biblically based and not opposing the Bible's sole authority (sola Scriptura), Christianity, or the deity of Jesus Christ. 204 | What is the gospel? | 1 Cor 15:1 | BradK | 230604
Hello tmkperez, Simply put, the gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins. One of the most concise statements of this is found in 1 Cor. 15:1-4 1 Cor 15:1, "Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 1 Cor 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," (NASB) Best wishes for a Happy New Year, BradK |

Hello sandee, Paul is without question the author of 1 Corinthians. 1 Cor 1:1 "Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 1 Cor 1:2 "To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:" (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

206 | the Holy Spirit is a pledge of our inher | Eph 1:13 | BradK | 230579
Hello Curt, Good question. Here's the relevant verses from the NASB: Eph 1:13, "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14, "who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory." In the larger context, it's refering to our (gospel of) salvation- which was 'sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise' Specifically, the Holy Spirit is the 'pledge (or earnest) of our inheritance'. The bestowal of the Holy Spirit is God's part-payment of all the "components" of the salvation he gives us believing sinners. Salvation essentially consists in three parts, justification, sanctification and glorification. We, as believers have the first two parts now- we have been justified and sanctified (Rom. 5:1, 1 Cor. 6:11). Glorification is the (final) act of God transforming our present bodies into perfect, sinless, eternal bodies. As Wuest notes, "The Holy Spirit, indwelling the believer, is God’s earnest money, guaranteeing to him the future glorification of his body." (cf Rom. 8:30) [Wuest, K. S. (1997). Wuest's word studies from the Greek New Testament] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

210 | Who were the magi or wise men? | Matt 2:1 | BradK | 230508
Hello carrielynn, Good question. Here's some answers from my good brother and bible teacher, Dr. James Raiford in his December 2011 article, "The First Christmas Gifts": CALLED MAGI, MATTHEW 2:1a. Magi were a special well known class of wise men within Israel and also from the Gentile nations. They were not simpletons and ignorant fanatics; they were a class of scholars who majored in astronomy, dreams, visions, and Holy Scripture. It is simple but must be said: Nowhere is it stated there were only three wise men because there were three gifts involved. Caution: resist determining your biblical information from Christmas cards. These are reliable men because the Word of God selected them to be witnesses of such a historical event. CAME FROM THE EAST, MATTHEW 2:1-2. This is an interesting statement and claim. Research reveals there are several opinions as to the meaning. The text does eliminate the possibility of their origin from certain countries. They were not from Egypt, Turkey or Syria as these nations were not known to be famous for having Magi as stated in the text of Matthew. Matthew says they followed a star. This star appeared, arrested their attention and disappeared. They arrived in Bethlehem and the star reappeared to them. Herod's wise men quoted Micah 5:1-3. CAME FROM BABYLON/CHALDEA. If this is the case they traveled 750 miles one way, 1500 total miles. These scholars traveled from Iraq, Nebuchadnezzar's empire, based on their scientific and biblical knowledge. This empire was famous for such inquiries into dreams, visions, and other sources of information. Daniel became a leading scholar in the empire according to Daniel chp 2, 7, and 9. Based on the text, they were seeking information concerning the long awaited child and king. In addition, they appeared to express a certain level of belief in contrast to other pagans and commentators! They clearly expected to locate the one spoken of by the prophecy. If so, the very nation Jehovah used to discipline his nation Israel were expecting the king of Israel! Merry CHRISTmas, BradK |

211 | government officials | Matt 22:21 | BradK | 230506
Hello gracias... I think there are at least a couple principles that we're given from scripture: 1.In the Synoptic Gospels, Mark 12:17 says, "And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at Him." 2. Romans 13:1-7 instructs on several specifics regarding authorities and rulers. Note in particular what verse 1 tells us as to who and why: Who- "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities"; Why- "For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." God is ultimately sovereign and He orders, commands and ordains these persons and there offices. I hope this helps with an answer. BradK |

215 | Buddhism | 1 Cor 15:3 | BradK | 230386
Hello inspirational..., I'm not entirely sure why you ask this question- unless it's because you hold some affinity for buddhism? At any rate, the answer to your question is a resounding, Yes! Buddha is still in his grave! Buddha is not God and there is no salvation through him. Internal meditations do nothing to resolve or atone for our sinfulness! Only the all sufficient sacrifice of Jesus' death can do that. The exclusive claim of scripture is this: "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

216 | Divine Authority | John | BradK | 230384
Hello inspirational..., There are numerous passages within scripture that proclaim Divine authority. Here are a several of them: The opening verse in Genesis 1 certainly proclaims God's (divine) authority "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." 1 Chr 29:11 "Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all." Is 44:6 "Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me. Is 44:7 'Who is like Me? Let him proclaim and declare it; Yes, let him recount it to Me in order, From the time that I established the ancient nation. And let them declare to them the things that are coming And the events that are going to take place." 1 Tim 1:17 "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |

217 | Was Cain the son of satan? | Gen 4:1 | BradK | 230325
Hello naphal, It would seem you are offering speculations in contradiction to scripture itself! As brother John noted, Genesis 4:1 clearly tells us, "Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the LORD." (NASB) Are you saying that this does not tells us who Cain's father is? My question to you: Who are the "Some suspect satan"? What does scripture say? I realize you're new to this Forum, so you might benefit by familiarizing yourself with the Terms of Use, About Forum and it's protocol:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

218 | What does Jesus looks like? | Is 53:2 | BradK | 230308
Hello naphal, I hate to disappoint you, but just because you said why doesn't establish it as anything close to being fact! My point is this: Upon what evidence do you base your opinion? What "earliest pictures of Jesus to the middle ages" do you refer? Where is your evidence? There are no likenesses or pictures of Jesus! None. Furthermore, I'm unaware of any existing images, etc of Him dating from the First-century. I don't know to what "weve always known" you're referring to. What is it we've always known? I'm not familiar with this theory- if it can even be called that! Please provide this Forum with some shred of Biblical/Archeological support or leave the speculation! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

219 | What does Jesus looks like? | Is 53:2 | BradK | 230300
Hello naphal, On what do you base the statement, "Those pictures of Jesus are most likely the closest to what he actually looked like."? It may possibly be a likeness of Him, but that's it! Anything else is pure speculation! BradK |

220 | Was Jesus ever married? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 230298
Hello naphal, By your response, I assume you're referring to Jesus as the Groom and the church as His bride as spoken of in Rev. 19:7? "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." (NASB) BradK |
