281 | believing and being born again? | John 3:16 | BradK | 227926
Hello soconfusedinthis world, So, what constitutes saving faith? Eph. 2:8-9 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."(NASB) Paul states the gospel clearly in 1 Cor. 15:1-4: 1 Cor 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 1 Cor 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, We need to be certain of our terms and definitions. Sometimes we confuse what's required for salvation, with what God seeks for our sanctification. Is there some question here to the validity of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."? Is more than belief required for one to be saved? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

284 | Is the judgment day truly 21/05/2011??? | Joel 2:30 | BradK | 227804
Heelo Prince natty, This is the false prophecy of Harold Camping and his Family Radio Network. He said the same thing in 1994! He was wrong and will be wrong this time. Matt 24:11 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many". What happens May 22nd? Scripture is quite explicit: Matt 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

291 | jesus' go into hades | Acts 2:22 | BradK | 227471
Hello Paulus, If I may further note: To the question, "Where did Jesus go after he died?" According to Acts 2:25-27, Jesus said the Father would not leave his soul in hell or permit his Son to see corruption. The term hell here is Hades not Gehenna which is the lake of eternal fire. Peter is quoting from Psalm 16, vs. 10, a Messianic Psalm and the term hell there is Sheol (The OT designation for the abode of the dead). According to Acts 2:29-32 Jesus did go to Sheol Hades but he did not remain there. BradK |

295 | Who was the twelveth person in 1 C 15:5 | 1 Cor 15:5 | BradK | 227432
Hello e.lee, The verse reads, "and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." (NASB) So, the reference would clearly be to the disciples. As The Commentary Critical notes, "seen of Cephas--Peter ( Luke 24:34 ). the twelve--The round number for "the Eleven" ( Luke 24:33 Luke 24:36 ). "The Twelve" was their ordinary appellation, even when their number was not full. However, very possibly Matthias was present ( Acts 1:22 Acts 1:23 ). Some of the oldest manuscripts and versions read, "the Eleven": but the best on the whole, "the Twelve." I hope this helps, BradK |

297 | Easter | Bible general Archive 4 | BradK | 227408
Hi Julia, I'm the other Brad, so if you don't mind... :-) To my knowledge, Easter is not about worshipping any pagan goddess- despite what the JW's say! Easter is about CELEBRATING the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ! He is Risen, is He not? (1 Cor. 15:14) Since the JW's deny the Diety of Christ, they must therefore, dismiss Easter as any type of celebration affirming his Divinity! Does this make sense? The Watchtower Organization has only been around since the late 19th Century! What did they uncover(?) that the rest of the Church missed for 1900 Years? Nothing. Ask him why they deny that Jesus is God when scripture- and the Church- have affirmed His Diety! Jesus clearly told the Pharisees in John 8:58," "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." (NASB) The Jews picked up stones to stone Him, for they clearly knew what He was affirming- to be God! Similarly, after Jesus told Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing." Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:27-28) Thomas certainly knew WHO Jesus was. Unfortunately, many well-meaning JW's and your husband have been systematically deceived by their Watchtower Organization! Their theology is built upon Arianism- (the denial that Christ is Divine) which was soundly defeated at the Council of Nicea in 325! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

298 | Should we go by the dietary laws in O.T | Lev 11:1 | BradK | 227401
Hello dominique, My initial answer would be, "If you want to". This really falls under situational relativity. The right and the wrong of those in this category are dependent upon the culture, time, situation, or some other variable. The guiding principle would be found in Rom. 14. I would then ask, "why or what motivates you to want to do so?" Keep in mind there's great wisdom in the dietary laws as given to Israel, they just don't apply specifically to us. 299 | what music do we listen to | Phil 4:8 | BradK | 227357
Hello pentwistle, There is no direct biblical command as to what types of music we should listen to. This really falls under situational relativity. The right and the wrong of those in this category are dependent upon the culture, time, situation, or some other variable. IMO, the guiding principle we should follow may be found in Phil 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." (NASB) Ask, Does the music I'm listening to glorify God? Does it bring me closer to or further away from Him? I hope this is of some help, BradK |
