181 | Romans 12:9-14 - love the evil? | Rom 12:14 | meusing | 152027
Hi, I think you are confusing an attribute (evil) and a person (who does evil). We are to hate evil, but love the person. I believe that when it says that we are to have the mind of Christ, our heats (like His) are to break over the person who is doing the evil. This is why we are to bless the person - to pray that he or she to be released from the evil. So, we are to hate the evil, but love the person who does the evil against us. To pray that they will come to realization of the pain they are giving God, and repent and come to Jesus so they will have peace. If a person who does evil is converted he is then your brother in Christ. This is what we pray for. 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Cor 5:18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 2 Cor 5:19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Cor 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. just my meusings |

182 | What God has in store for believers? | 1 Cor 2:9 | meusing | 152199
I think this verse says it all. 1 Corinthians 2:9 But, on the contrary, as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed]. [Isa. 64:4; 65:17.] |

183 | What does this passage mean? | 1 Cor 7:14 | meusing | 47278
I think A. T. Robertson explains it well. -- 1Co 7:14 - Is sanctified in the wife (hegiastai en tei gunaiki). Perfect passive indicative of hagiazo, to set apart, to hallow, to sanctify. Paul does not, of course, mean that the unbelieving husband is saved by the faith of the believing wife, though Hodge actually so interprets him. Clearly he only means that the marriage relation is sanctified so that there is no need of a divorce. If either husband or wife is a believer and the other agrees to remain, the marriage is holy and need not be set aside. This is so simple that one wonders at the ability of men to get confused over Paul’s language. |

185 | God forgive no matter what | 2 Cor 5:8 | meusing | 44363
The purpose of Jesus is to save us from sin. 1. from the penalty of sin. 2. from the power of sin. 3. and finally from the presence of sin. The Holy Sprit witnesses to us and brings us to repentance which is turning from sin to God, not just sorrow for sin. Paul asked this question in Romans 6 and 7. Rom 6:1 WHAT SHALL we say [to all this]? Are we to remain in sin in order that God's grace (favor and mercy) may multiply and overflow? Rom 6:2 Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? Rom 6:3 Are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Rom 6:4 We were buried therefore with Him by the baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious [power] of the Father, so we too might [habitually] live and behave in newness of life. Rom 6:5 For if we have become one with Him by sharing a death like His, we shall also be [one with Him in sharing] His resurrection [by a new life lived for God]. Rom 6:15 What then [are we to conclude]? Shall we sin because we live not under Law but under God's favor and mercy? Certainly not! Rom 6:16 Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)? Rom 6:17 But thank God, though you were once slaves of sin, you have become obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed. Rom 6:18 And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action). The Holy Spirit dwells within the Christian as a principle within who watches for sin and testifies to us of what that sin cost Jesus. This is the loving fear of God ... wanting to please Him and being afraid to displease Him, not because of punishment but because of love. |

186 | Strength through Him or in Him? | 2 Cor 12:9 | meusing | 137641
I think John Gill explained it best whose power is perfected: "for My strength is made perfect in weakness; by the "strength" of Christ is meant, not his strength as the mighty God, but that communicative strength which he has, and is in him as Mediator, and which saints look to him for, and receive from him; this is "made perfect in" their "weakness"; not that their weakness can add perfection to his strength, for his strength is perfect in itself, not to say anything of the contradiction such a sense carries in it; but the meaning is, that the strength of Christ is made to appear, is illustrated and shines forth in its perfection and glory, in supplying, supporting, and strengthening his people under all their weakness; and if they were not left to some weaknesses in themselves, his strength would not be so manifest" Robertson's Word Pictures explains: "Is perfected (teleitai). Present passive indicative of teleo, to finish. It is linear in idea. Power is continually increased as the weakness grows. See note on Phi. 4:13 for this same noble conception. The human weakness opens the way for more of Christ’s power and grace." the note on Phil 4:13 is: "In him that strengtheneth me (en toi endunamounti me). Late and rare verb (in lxx) from adjective endunamos (en, dunamis). Causative verb to empower, to pour power into one. See same phrase in 1Ti. 1:12 toi endunamosanti me (aorist tense here). Paul has such strength so long as Jesus keeps on putting power (dunamis) into him." |

187 | Fellowship of the Holy Spirit | 2 Cor 13:14 | meusing | 62604
Webster said : 1. Fellowship; intercourse between two persons or more; interchange of transactions, or offices; a state of giving and receiving; agreement; concord. and John Gill : communion and fellowship which the Spirit of God leads the saints into with the Father, by shedding abroad his love in their hearts, and with the Son, by taking of the things of Christ, and showing them to them; and also that nearness which the spirits of believers have with the Spirit of God, when he witnesses to their spirits that they are the children of God, becomes the earnest of the inheritance in their hearts, and seals them up unto the day of redemption |

If we were talking to a 'sinner' we would show him Christ who is better that wine. Alot of problems can be anesthesized (sp?) that are soved by freedom in Christ. 189 | Galatians and Matthew | Galatians | meusing | 44769
I am not sure what your question is about ancestor worship, as we worship a living God. But circumcision was instituted by God as a sign of His covenant with Abraham. In Galations and Romans, Paul shows that now,Gal 5:6 For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love. |

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin). He is called the HOLY Spirit OF GOD. |

191 | Doesn't John 14:28 disprove the Trinity? | Phil 2:6 | meusing | 40910
The Father means 'Father' Jesus is God (John 1:1) He is the life giver and EQUAL to God (the Father). He chose to submit Himself under the Father's authority. Phil 2:6 Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, Phil 2:7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. Phil 2:8 And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross! Phil 2:9 Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, Phil 2:10 That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Phil 2:11 And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |

That is the same type of argument that the tempter used : "If you are the Son of God ..." do this of that to proove it. However Jesus being God submitteted to all this as the writer of Hebrews says : Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. Heb 4:16 Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. Jesus came to die on the Cross so the mockers challenge was not justifiable. They were telling Him to disobey and take Himself out of the the will of God. He came to die for us. It was His love that held Him there and His determination to endure all so that He as God could take our punishement and be victorious over it. please ask your friends next time you see them, "How would it have proved Jesus was God's Son if He had disobeyed Him?" |

195 | Which kinds of suffering? | Col 1:24 | meusing | 44954
Our focus is to be on Christ Jesus. all the things you listed are parts of living. We have Jesus as our anchor and stay. He said ... John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." If our focus is on Him, what happens to us in this sinful world in nothing to what we have. Heb 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Paul applied this 2 Tim 3:10 Now you have closely observed and diligently followed my teaching, conduct, purpose in life, faith, patience, love, steadfastness, 2 Tim 3:11 Persecutions, sufferings--such as occurred to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra, persecutions I endured, but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 2 Tim 3:12 Indeed all who delight in piety and are determined to live a devoted and godly life in Christ Jesus will meet with persecution [will be made to suffer because of their religious stand]. We do not need to go looking for suffering. Just my meusings |

196 | So, not ALL suffering is included? | Col 1:24 | meusing | 44978
Since Paul said that his suffering was for the sake of the Colosians, I cannot see, in all conscince how it reffers to all sufferings. 2Co 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 2Co 1:6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 2Co 1:7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. 2Co 1:8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 2Ti 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 2Ti 2:9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 2Ti 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. |

197 | What about abusive marriage? | Col 1:24 | meusing | 45015
An abusive relationship is an attack on us, not a cross to be born. Paul explained : 1 Cor 7:13 And if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he consents to live with her, she should not leave or divorce him. 1 Cor 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is set apart (separated, withdrawn from heathen contamination, and affiliated with the Christian people) by union with his consecrated (set-apart) wife, and the unbelieving wife is set apart and separated through union with her consecrated husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean (unblessed heathen, outside the Christian covenant), but as it is they are prepared for God [pure and clean]. --------- 1 Cor 7:15 But if the unbelieving partner [actually] leaves, let him do so; in such [cases the remaining] brother or sister is not morally bound. But God has called us to peace. --------- 1 Cor 7:16 For, wife, how can you be sure of converting and saving your husband? Husband, how can you be sure of converting and saving your wife? 1 Cor 7:17 Only, let each one [seek to conduct himself and regulate his affairs so as to] lead the life which the Lord has allotted and imparted to him and to which God has invited and summoned him. This is my order in all the churches |

198 | What is a spiritual sacrifice? | Col 1:24 | meusing | 45024
hi, Cheryl, adding to your quotes Spurgeon wrote this in one of His moning devotionals for April 5 "On Him they laid the cross, that He might bear it after Jesus." --Luke 23:26 We see in Simon's carrying the cross a picture of the work of the Church throughout all generations; she is the cross-bearer after Jesus. Mark then, Christian, Jesus does not suffer so as to exclude your suffering. He bears a cross, not that you may escape it, but that you may endure it. Christ exempts you from sin, but not from sorrow. Remember that, and expect to suffer. But let us comfort ourselves with this thought, that in our case, as in Simon's, _it is not our cross_, but Christ's cross which we carry. When you are molested for your piety; when your religion brings the trial of cruel mockings upon you, then remember it is not _your_ cross, it is Christ's cross; and how delightful is it to carry the cross of our Lord Jesus! _You carry the cross after Him_. You have blessed company; your path is marked with the footprints of your Lord. The mark of His blood-red shoulder is upon that heavy burden. 'Tis _His_ cross, and He goes before you as a shepherd goes before his sheep. Take up your cross daily, and follow Him. Do not forget, also, _that you bear this cross in partnership_. It is the opinion of some that Simon only carried one end of the cross, and not the whole of it. That is very possible; Christ may have carried the heavier part, against the transverse beam, and Simon may have borne the lighter end. Certainly it is so with you; you do but carry the light end of the cross, Christ bore the heavier end. And remember, _though Simon had to bear the cross for a very little while, it gave him lasting honour_. Even so the cross we carry is only for a little while at most, and then we shall receive the crown, the glory. Surely we should love the cross, and, instead of shrinking from it, _count it very dear_, when it works out for us "a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory." |

199 | Differentiating between attacks | Col 1:24 | meusing | 45088
Yes, Attacks on us because of our profession of faith are different than other attacks simply because the first are from the enemy of God. The cross that we each bear is the body (old habit of sin) that is to be crucified so we can live the victorious life identified with the resurrecion life of Christ. Attacks of the enemy are designed to try to make us deny God, or focus on ourself and circumstances so much we forget that God said that He would be with us and that we should trust in Him. Other sufferings are just part of our living in a fallen world. Our focus is to be on Christ who is overcomer and in Him we also are overcomers. Look athe those who have cronic pain and still use the time in bed to interceed with God for others ect. I hope I am clear. That is why I like quoteing those who can say things better that this dyslectic fisherman. |

200 | Differentiating various sufferings | Col 1:24 | meusing | 45089
All I know is to keep my eyes (attention) fixed on Christ. What we go through He has too. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. so that we can claim Rom 8:37 Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, Rom 8:39 Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
