AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 2:6 who, although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes--the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it]; |
Bible Question: Regarding John 14:28, the Father is greater [megas] than I.... was not Jesus refering to the fact that God was His Father, and the Father means literally life giver? Why would He make such a comment if He was co-equal with God? And how could He have died on the cross if He was God... God being immortal, thus deathproof. Yes, inquiring minds want to know. |
Bible Answer: The Father means 'Father' Jesus is God (John 1:1) He is the life giver and EQUAL to God (the Father). He chose to submit Himself under the Father's authority. Phil 2:6 Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, Phil 2:7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. Phil 2:8 And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross! Phil 2:9 Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, Phil 2:10 That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Phil 2:11 And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
