101 | Simple example that we shoud keep sabbat | Ps 111:7 | meusing | 58012
yes, Jesus should be our example. Where was Jesus on the Sabbath? In the grave. What were the Jews doing while Jesus the Lord of the Sabbath was in the grave? They were keeping the Sabbath. Where was Jesus on the first day of the week? He was risen!!!! since then it has been the pleasure of those whose lives have been bought by the Blood of the Lord of the Sabbath to meet together on the day of resurrection to rejoice and praise their redeemer. Please show me where worshiping Jesus is a sin. |

104 | What are the seven pillars of wisdom | Prov 9:1 | meusing | 152179
There are many thoughts on this. I like what Gill has to say : ministers of the Gospel, compared to pillars for strength and stability, and for their being instrumental in supporting the interest and church of Christ; in allusion to the pillars in Solomon's temple, Jachin and Boaz; see Gal_2:9. These are said to be "hewn", being polished, beautified, and adorned with the gifts and graces of the Spirit by Christ, and thereby fitted for their work and service; and said to be "seven", because there is a complete and sufficient number of them, which Christ has provided, and always will provide for his churches, as long as they continue in the world. Though it may be these seven pillars may denote in general the firmness and solidity of this spiritual building, the church, and the continuance of it by the power of God; or they may have respect to the seven states of the church in so many periods of time, to last to the end of all things, signified by the seven churches in the book of the Revelation... see Rev. 3:12 also Rev 3:12 The one overcoming, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall not go out any more. And I will write the name of My God on him, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem which comes down out of Heaven from My God, and My new name. |

105 | Christ and the Church (Song of Solomon) | Song 2:15 | meusing | 59045
I like Jessie Penn-Lewis' devotional book 'Thy Hidden Ones' on the Song of Solomon. about 2:15 she says: The Soul's pre-occupied reply ... She hears the Well-beloved's voice, sees His attitude, and hearkens to His call to arise, His command to forget the things that are behind. She listens to His message about the cross, to His call to turn her face toward Him, but -- SHE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND! She is pre-occupied. She evidently has her eyes on the vine, and its promise of fruit, and is getting concerned in the keeping of her vinyard. Thus easily the gaze is turned away from the Person of the LORD. In the King's chambers the soul discovered that she had been too much engrosses in active service, and had neglected he own vinyard. Now she goes to the other extreme and is so OCCUPIED WITH HER VINYARD as not to be able to understand the Beloved's call. She is fearing lest she should lose the blesed experience of His indwelling and begins to dread lest the vines should be spoiled. She is frightened at some "little foxes" that are appearing -- "little" manifestations of the old life which she had thought had gone, and gone forever. Ah! if she had remained occupied with her lord,so as to quickly obey when He said "rise up", HE would see to the young fruit, and to the little foxes, for the Beloved can only manifest His delivering power whilst we are walking in His will. "Little foxes" always tell the tale that somewhere we have failed to keep step with the Lord. We have missed His will or filed to understand His voice. We must quickly deal with God over these "little thinngs", for they open the door to great ones if not dealt with at once. |

106 | Significance of the right hand in bible? | Isaiah | meusing | 44027
Notice, in Isaiah 41:10 it is 'the right hand of my righteousness' in other words -- Jesus. I like John Gill's commentary .."either by his almighty power, or by his Son, the man of his right hand, made strong for himself, and the author of righteousness to his people: this is expressive of his sustentation of them, not merely in a providential way, but in a way of special grace; and of his powerful protection and preservation of them, so as that they shall stand in the grace of God, go on in his ways, and not fall finally and totally, but persevere to the end, though their trials and temptations may be great and many.' Ver. 13. For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand,.... Take hold of it, join in league and alliance with his people as it were, go hand in hand with them; and having such an one with them, and on their side, they need fear no enemy: or it is expressive of great freedom, familiarity, and friendship, which may assure believers of the strong affection of God towards them; and they may conclude themselves safe, being held by him as a child in the hand of its parents, which is then not afraid of anything. The Lord holds the right hand of his people, teaching them to walk by faith, leading them into his presence, and to communion with himself, and keeps them from falling: or, he "will strengthen their right hand" ; to do his work and service, and oppose their enemies; or he will relieve their wants, and fill their hands with his good things, which is sometimes the sense of the phrase |

107 | Why (does) did the Lord hide his face? | Isaiah | meusing | 155586
The book of Isaiah is about calling God's people (the house of Jacob) to repentance by showing them the result of their sins. Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. and Isa 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. ----- just my meusings |

108 | was the devil's original purpose evil? | Is 54:16 | meusing | 47962
Since God is Good, all that God creates is good. The problem with creating a being with free will is that it opens the posibility of rebelion. To love is to open oneself up to the pain of rejection. God can no more create evil than the sun can shine darkness. evil is the absence of good just as darkness is the absence of light. |

110 | Israel-powerful nation-end days-where? | Ezekiel | meusing | 44441
When Jacob returned to the land of Canaan from Paddan-aram he wrestled with the Angel of God who changed his name to Israel Gen. 32:28. Later, at Bethel ... Gen 35:9 And God [in a distinctly visible manifestation] appeared to Jacob again when he came out of Padan-aram, and declared a blessing on him. [Gen. 32:28.] Gen 35:10 Again God said to him, Your name is Jacob [supplanter]; you shall not be called Jacob any longer, but Israel shall be your name. So He called him Israel [contender with God]. Gen 35:11 And God said to him, I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you and kings shall be born of your stock; Gen 35:12 The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and to your descendants after you I will give the land. Which is a confermation of the covenant that God gave Abraham in Chapter 17, and to his father Isaac in chapter 26:24. |

112 | Why was Jehu to be punished by God? | Hos 1:4 | meusing | 163625
John Calvin asked this question, and this is his reasoning: For yet a little while, and I will visit the slaughters of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu. Here interpreters labour not a little, because it seems strange that God should visit the slaughter made by Jehu, which yet he had approved; nay, Jehu did nothing thoughtlessly, but knew that he was commanded to execute that vengeance. He was, therefore, God’s legitimate minister; and why is what God commanded imputed to him now as a crime? This reasoning has driven some interpreters to take “bloods” here for wicked deeds in general: ‘I will avenge the sins of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu.’ Some say, “I will avenge the slaughter of Naboth:” but this is wholly absurd, nor can it suit the place, for, “upon the house of Jehu,” is distinctly expressed; and God did not visit the slaughter on the house of Jehu, but on the house of Ahab. But they who are thus embarrassed do not consider what the Prophet has in view. For God, when he wished Jehu with his drawn sword to destroy the whole house of Ahab, had this end as his object, — that Jehu should restore pure worship, and cleanse the land from all defilements. Jehu then was stirred up by the Spirit of God, that he might re-establish God’s pure worship. When a defender of religion, how did he act? He became contented with his prey. After having seized on the kingdom for himself, he confirmed idolatry and every abomination. He did not then spend his labour for God. Hence that slaughter with regard to Jehu was robbery; with regard to God it was a just revenge. this view ought to satisfy us as to the explanation of this passage; and I bring nothing but what the Holy Scripture contains. For after Jehu seemed to burn with zeal for God, he soon proved that there was nothing sincere in his heart; for he embraced all the superstitions which previously prevailed in the kingdom of Israel. |

113 | Ninevah's Repentance Relevant to Today? | Jon 3:5 | meusing | 62362
The whole point is that God did not want to destroy Nineveh. he sent Jonah to tell them to repent so that he would not have to destroy them. The church today is the body of Christ holding out the sign "Repent" We need to be in touch with our head (Christ) so that we can so live as to draw those who are sinners to repentance. They need to see Jesus in us, and hear the Word of the Lord so that the Holy Spirit can work in their hearts. We can not just sit by the side of the road making daisy chains while the rest of the world goes over the cliff of destruction. |

116 | But Satan is our enemy, so how? | Matthew | meusing | 39018
Our focus is to be on God, and to show His love to others. Satan is God's enemy and he will do anything He can do to take our focus off of God. If our enemies are out of Satan's power, they will no longer be our enemies. Eph 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. 13 Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. [Isa. 52:7.] 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people). |

117 | what is does Jesus mean in matt 7:6? | Matthew | meusing | 39399
I like how John Calvin explained this : 6. Give not that which is holy. It is unnecessary to repeat oftener, that Matthew gives us here detached sentences, which ought not to be viewed as a continued discourse. The present instruction is not at all connected with what came immediately before, but is entirely separate from it. Christ reminds the Apostles, and, through them, all the teachers of the Gospel, to reserve the treasure of heavenly wisdom for the children of God alone, and not to expose it to unworthy and profane despisers of his word. But here a question arises: for he afterwards commanded to preach the Gospel to every creature, (Mark 16:15;) and Paul says, that the preaching of it is a deadly savor to wicked men, ( 2 Corinthians 2:16;) and nothing is more certain than that it is every day held out to unbelievers, by the command of God, for a testimony, that they may be rendered the more inexcusable. I reply: As the ministers of the Gospel, and those who are called to the office of teaching, cannot distinguish between the children of God and swine, it is their duty to present the doctrine of salvation indiscriminately to all. Though many may appear to them, at first, to be hardened and unyielding, yet charity forbids that such persons should be immediately pronounced to be desperate. It ought to be understood, that dogs and swine are names given not to every kind of debauched men, or to those who are destitute of the fear of God and of true godliness, but to those who, by clear evidences, have manifested a hardened contempt of God, so that their disease appears to be incurable. In another passage, Christ places the dogs in contrast with the elect people of God and the household of faith, It is not proper to take the children's bread, and give it to dogs, ( Matthew 15:27.) But by dogs and swine he means here those who are so thoroughly imbued with a wicked contempt of God, that they refuse to accept any remedy. Hence it is evident, how grievously the words of Christ are tortured by those who think that he limits the doctrine of the Gospel to those only who are teachable and well-prepared. For what will be the consequence, if nobody is invited by pious teachers, until by his obedience he has anticipated the grace of God? On the contrary, we are all by nature unholy, and prone to rebellion. The remedy of salvation must be refused to none, till they have rejected it so basely when offered to them, as to make it evident that they are reprobate and self-condemned, (aujtokata kritoi,) as Paul says of heretics, ( Titus 3:11.) There are two reasons, why Christ forbade that the Gospel should be offered to lost despisers. It is an open profanation of the mysteries of God to expose them to the taunts of wicked men. Another reason is, that Christ intended to comfort his disciples, that they might not cease to bestow their labors on the elect of God in teaching the Gospel, though they saw it wantonly rejected by wicked and ungodly men. His meaning is lest this inestimable treasure should be held in little estimation, swine and dogs must not be permitted to approach it. There are two designations which Christ bestows on the doctrine of salvation: he calls it holy, and compares it to pearls. Hence we learn how highly we ought to esteem this doctrine. Lest these trample them under their feet. Christ appears to distinguish between the swine and the dogs: attributing brutal stupidity to the swine, and rage to the dogs. And certainly, experience shows, that there are two such classes of despisers of God. Whatever is taught in Scripture, for instance, about the corrupt nature of man, free justification, and eternal election, is turned by many into an encouragement to sloth and to carnal indulgence. Such persons are fitly and justly pronounced to be swine. Others, again, tear the pure doctrine, and its ministers, with sacrilegious reproaches, as if they threw away all desire to do well, all fear of God, and all care for their salvation. Although he employs both names to describe the incurable opponents of the Word of God, yet, by a twofold comparison, he points out briefly in what respect the one differs from the other. |

Wanted By Christ. 1 Cor 7:13 And if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he consents to live with her, she should not leave or divorce him. 1 Cor 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is set apart (separated, withdrawn from heathen contamination, and affiliated with the Christian people) by union with his consecrated (set-apart) wife, and the unbelieving wife is set apart and separated through union with her consecrated husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean (unblessed heathen, outside the Christian covenant), but as it is they are prepared for God [pure and clean]. 1 Cor 7:15 But if the unbelieving partner [actually] leaves, let him do so; in such [cases the remaining] brother or sister is not morally bound. But God has called us to peace. |
