1661 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | lionheart | 141663
My dearest sister, Gods richest blessings and abundant grace to you. God bless your heart. It's been awhile since I got into 1 Cor 13.It provides us with a constant reminder of what the motivation of our hearts aught to be. We can have the nobelist of intentions but without the love of God being the driving force behind what we do it all becomes an exercise in futility. 1 Cor 13 isn't refered to as the love chapter for nothing. Everything God has done for us from the beginnig of time has been out of a heart of love. Jn 3:16- For God so loved,1 Jn4:19 the reason we can truly love is because he first loved us. 1 Jn 4:18 perfect love (Gods love)casts out fear. Anything we do apart from the love of God are nothing more than dead works. Thank you so much for reminding me why I do what I do. Gods Grace to you my sister you are the best, lionheart |

Greetings sister, welcome to the forum. If you are a new Christian it helps to have a bible that is easy for you to read and understand. Get advice about transalations, there are a number of fairly good ones out there. Spend time in prayer with God every day. Where your heart is at is vital to any time you spend in Gods Word. Read 2 Peter 1:20,21. Having a handle on these two verses is a good starting point. Start simple and build on what you learn. As you spend time in the bible you will gain more understanding of the things of God and his plan for your life. I hope this sheds some light for you. Let us know how things are going for you. Your brother in Christ, lionheart |

Thanx brother, I use to own a youngs analytical concordance and it was one of the best resources I've ever owned,I wish I still had it. Where did you get your youngs literal? Looks like something I would definatly want to add to my current array of resources. Gods blessings to you, lionheart |

1665 | Why is NAS better than KJV | Bible general Archive 2 | lionheart | 141611
Grettings brother. There are some very good translations out there, but you are right some of the more readable version can sacrifice some accuracy. I own a KJV,NIV,and an NASB. I've done quite well with them.I also have an amplified bible that has been quite helpful. Not being a greek/hebrew scholar having good tools has been invaluable to me. With a good exhaustive cocordance,Topical bible, a greek/english lexicon and a good greek english dictionary the average everyday student of the bible can have constructive and accurate studies of the bible. Trust me my knowlege of greek and hebrew is extremly basic. Having these tools and a lot of grace from God have enabled me to have very powerful times in Gods Word. So my brother its quite doable. Keep praying for me. Grace to you, lionheart |

1666 | Man or man? | Mark | lionheart | 141562
Exactly brother, and that is why we gotta let Gods Word speak for itself because it does and will every time. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, with human nature being what it is though we can take the clearest of Bible doctrines and make disputable matters out of them. God wants us all on the same page. God would not call us do anything that he wont enable us to do. Thanx much. Your Brother in Christ, lionheart |

1667 | Man or man? | Mark | lionheart | 141554
EdB,thanx brother I absolutely agree with you on this one. I,m not without fault myself. But I'm learnig more every day how destructive personal bias and opinion can be to our study of Gods Word and our walk with him.Thats why I have to make the extra effort to gaurd my heart.I know how opoinionated I can be. When I get that way I lose and so does anyone I'm trying to reach. Jesus says in Mtt12:25 Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste and any city or house divided against itself shall not stand. I remember the pastor of the church I grew up in would pray for God to take his flesh out of the equation before he would bring the message. Think God might be trying to tell us something in Mtt 12:25. Personal bias and opinion have no place in the study of Gods Word. 1 Pt 1:20,21. Gods Word Speaks for itself. If we go into things with this attitude of heart we will find the answers we're looking for and more than likely they will be the right ones. If we apply these principles to our daily study and walk with God. I highly recomend That we take a good look at Romans 14. Paul does an outstanding job of explaining what to do with disputable matters, ie. Opinions personal bias ect. Guys we can be unified,we really can. Thanx for your input brother. your brother in Christ, lionheart |

1668 | Man or man? | Mark | lionheart | 141515
Hello EdB. God bless you brother. Once again you make a solid point. I too take Gods Word quite literally and we must. One thing that has helped me considerably in my study of the Bible has been understanding that God has incorperated numerous figures of speech, synonims ,and other things to paint pictures of himself and the principles he sets forth in the Bible. That along with things you have brought up in previous postings. In the case of a verse that may be unclear it gets explained in the verse,in the context,or it's been used elsewhere in scripure. Those points which you mentioned yourself on more than one occassion. When we apply these principles to our study of Gods Word along with lots of prayer it takes the guess work out of everything. That is why I see 2 Timothy 2:15 as a lynch pin to our study of Gods Word and the kind of relationship he wants to have with us.I think that if we as sons and daughters of God apply these principles consistantly that we will find ourselves much more unified and not so much at loggerheads with each other. God wants us unified and like minded where his Word is concerned. Thanx my brother, lionheart |

1670 | What if willfully return to a sinning li | Eph 1:11 | lionheart | 141432
Tim,EdB thank you thank you thank you! God bless your hearts!! You just made something crystal clear for me. This is something I've had a deep conviction about for quite a while. I just never been able to present this with any amount of clarity or confidence. Man oh man. It's simple. We at heart can be so emotional and sentamental we can be blind to whats looking us right in the face. No doubt,we cant lose something that we gaurd or cherish. When we are walking with God in faith and trust we cant lose our salvation. The Bible even says knowone can pluck us from Gods hand. Repentance is the key for us as believers. 1 Jn1:9 But when we willfuly continue in sin we can and do walk away from God or as you EdB put it we can lay it down.Tim 1 Jn1:6-10 fits well with the He 6:4-6 passage. Also I think there is a passage in the OT where it says God will not forever endure an unrepentant heart maybe you guys can help me out with that one. Thats why when it comes to our relationship with God it is encumbant for us to be gaurding our hearts every single day. The consequences of not doing so are too tragic to even imagine. One thing I'd like put on the table is Gal 6:1 Talks about restoring our brother, I beleive also God will restore those who come back to him with a Godly sorrow and truly repentant heart. Granted when one willfuly turns their back on God the odds are not good. But thankfuly for us all things are possible with God. I will definatly check out Spurgeons website. Again thank you both for making this so much clearer for me. Always your brother in Christ, lionheart |

1673 | Can you prove eternal security? | 1 Pet 1:23 | lionheart | 141319
Tim,hello my brother. I'm not sure what you mean by Daisy theology, could it be what I call pie in the sky theology. I think many times people tend to over simplify things. The average person may see faith as mental ascent. But faith is oh so much more. True faith conotates action. James touches on this in Ja 2:14-18. We are absolutly NOT saved by works, but our faith or lack of it is evidenced by how we live and by what we do. The greek word for faith here is the word pistis which is an action verb. Our faith is evidenced by the changed lives we lead after we've asked Jesus to be Lord and Savior of our life. If I've twisted this in any way please set me straight. 1675 | Does God make plans to kill people? | 1 Sam 2:25 | lionheart | 141268
Goodmorning. 2 Peter 3:9b Says God is unwilling for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. It's not in Gods plan to kill anyone. With this in minde go back to 2Sam 2:12 and read up to vs.25. Eli's sons were into some absolutly despicable stuff. God will go a long way with us but the time comes when one refuses to deal with their sin then God will expose that sin and deal with it. God will not endure a nonrepentant heart forever. This was where Eli's sons were at.It's important here to know that Eli's sons did not know the Lord.(vs 12) They had no relationship with God. In Christ lionheart |

1678 | finding my calling | Phil 4:16 | lionheart | 141248
That can be a hard question to answer. Are you new in the faith and if you have been a christian for some time Where do you see your walk with God at this point in time? The best thing I can tell you at this time is spend time in Gods Word every day, be specific in your prayers(you cant spend to much time in prayer.) Phil 4:6. Isa 59:1 Phil4:19 God will hear your prayer and be assured he will answer. Build Godly relationships within the body. But most of all keep God first in your life.Mtt6:33 As you do these things God will show you where your strengths and talents lie, even your weaknesses. He will use these things to direct you and show you where he wants you. Read Eph3:20 God will do this for you bigtime. In Christ lionheart |

1679 | 2 Questions regarding tithing | Mal 3:10 | lionheart | 141210
When we give with a 2Cor9:7 heart we open the floodgates of Gods blessings Mal 3:10. Ultimatly its to God that you are giving and he will honor that.Dont let this situation harden your hearts regarding your tithe. Get advice from your Pastor or elders regarding this. You may even want to request that your tithe go to a particular ministry or work within the fellowship. But by all means continue to give, God will take care of the rest. In Christ lionheart |
