162 | Rule or Ideal? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Glory Bound | 130062
Please forgive my vagueness. One of my many great faults is in assuming that others are aware of what it is that I am stating. For some reason, the term “one woman man” puts me in mind that the word marriage was being totally left out. Wife indicates a married woman. Woman simply indicates a woman. The fact that a man may have loved only one woman, though it could imply to some, actually does not in any way indicate marriage. It is the way of the enemy to imply what one would expect would be there, but when it comes down to the bottom line, that implication is totally ignored and most often undefinable because when the statement is examined, it did not say what may have been implied. In other words, the statement “one woman man” could easily be advocating just what it says. One woman, one man. Where is Gods ingredient? Marriage. "in such a day as this.” With the condition of morals and the sly tactics of the enemy this day and time… Need I say more? I do not yet know Doc. I was simply noting the implications I saw. I sincerely apologize if I have offended anyone who has misunderstood what I was saying. GB |

165 | Rule or Ideal? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Glory Bound | 130179
Your thought is about as close as I could have worded it, with the exception of the essence of my thought, which I have a hard time putting into words myself. In an attempt... There is so much deception out there today that I have become, perhaps a little too leary of anything that has the slightest appearance of possible deception. I know there is a name for that. I call it my "gut feeling." Whenever I have gone against that "gut feeling" I have inevitably gone wrong. As an example, I believe in total fairness to everyone, no matter the appearance. Yet I have found that, to date, every time I have ever given anyone "the benefit of the doubt" when I experienced that "gut feeling," It has been proven that I should have gone with that "gut feeling" in the 1st place. Though Doc had no ulterior motive, I can only imagine what his phrase could have escalated into. It may sound a little dramatic, but it is not unimaginable that the a-bomb could have originated from a simple and pure curiosity on the part of an individual who wouldn't have hurt a flea. GB |

Hank, you have read me totally wrong. I am blaming or shooting fire at no one. I made a simple statement, which could have, and has since been clarified, and I stick by what I have said to date. Language and terminology changes throughout the times. I'm sorry if you misunderstood my intentions in my post. Have a Gay day GB |

I'm not the one who brought up the question Hank. Just attempting to clarify my statement. If memory serves me right, I believe Pflugerville is a little east of I35 and about 10 or 12 miles north of Austin. When I left Huston, I didn't think I'd ever go back to Texas. Looks like I was right. The older I get, the longer those miles seem. I lived in Conroe for some time back in the early 80's. I remember that back then you could loose your whole front end in some of those pot holes in the interstate. Thanks for the invite though. Be careful with them there credit cards Hank. Them things is the devils own chains. In Christ GB |

172 | Getting closer to the Creator | 2 Tim 2:15 | Glory Bound | 134168
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2Ti 2:15-16 I would recommend the book of James. Read it 7 times. You may wish to purchase "How to study The Bible for Yourself" by Tim LaHaye. You wil truly be enriched by this book. GB |

173 | Can somebody explain world ending? | 2 Tim 3:1 | Glory Bound | 134270
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,... 2Ti 3:1-2 You ask a question to which there is no answer. I'm sure, however that there are many "Gloom and Doomers" which would be glad to tell you a story, their vision of such a thing as the end of the world. The truth of the matter is that there is no mention of "an ending of the world" in scripture. There is, however, which tells us what will happen prior to, and when "the passing of this world as we now know it" takes place. Read Mark, chapter 13 for a glimpse. You may wish to consider reading Tim LaHaye's series "Left Behind." It is an excellent series that is true to the book of Revelations. The last book in that series, coupled with my bible, and a good computer bible search program, was a gold mine of info for me. GB |

174 | KJV the ONLY authentic Word of God | 2 Tim 3:16 | Glory Bound | 129773
Other than ignorance, is there any basis for such a claim? I hate to put it bluntly, but everyone I have encountered who make such claim, make it through total ignorance concerning anything beyond what their grandparents knew concerning scripture. GB |

175 | should I worry about using NIV over KJV | 2 Tim 3:16 | Glory Bound | 129774
To date, there are some very wise answers to your question. The Holy Spirit showed me the NIV shortly after it was published in it's entirety in the late 1970's. At the time I had made up my mind that I was going to read the bible from cover to cover. I started in the KJ reading 10 chapters a day. It wasn’t long till I realized that I simply didn’t understand ½ of what I was reading, but I was determined, so I started reading like this; Today I would read chapters 1 through 10. Tomorrow, 5 through 15. The following day, 10 to 20, and so on. This was a slow process, but I did understand quiet a bit more. At the time, I did not know that there was a bible other than the King James. At least, not one I wanted to believe in. In prayer, I told the Lord one night that there must be something out there that I could understand better than the KJ. I was in the Navy aboard the USS Eisenhower. One day while walking through a passageway, I spied a young fella in a corner reading a book. I don’t know why, but I asked him what he was reading; He stated. “The Bible.” I told him, “it doesn’t look like my bible.” He said. It’s the same as the King James. To make a long story short, I borrowed that NIV from this stranger. We became the best of friends, and through a little monetary persuasion, about 50 bucks for this 10.00 issue, I finally talked him out of that bible. Whereas I was double reading the King James, and understanding, maybe 70 percent of what I was reading, I immediately started reading 60 or more chapters a day in the NIV and understanding 90percent plus. I have determined that I will not be misled when it comes to the word of God. I have scrutinized the NIV in reference with the KJV and the Interlinear Hebrew, Greek, English Version. There is no doubt in my mind that of what scripture is available today, the NIV is an inspired translation which is as good as the best and better than most. Look at Ps 23:5 in the KJ and NIV. Then see what it says in the Good News Bible. If there is that notable a difference, are you wise enough to recognize the others? KJV- my cup runneth over, NIV-my cup overflows (same meaning) Gnb-fill my cup to the brim (there is a large difference between a cup filled to the brim and one which is overflowing.) My favorite passage is 2 Timothy 2:15 Check it out. Your determination and perseverance will pay off. GB |

176 | KJV the ONLY authentic Word of God | 2 Tim 3:16 | Glory Bound | 129968
As is the norm Ed, you have expressed my thoughts exactly. I started with the KJV, but didn't really understand a lot of what I read, so I determined to read whether I understood or not. Eventually I began to understand considerably more. When I discovered the NIV, my studies became considerably faster and more fruitful. The more I study scripture, the more I realize that even the KJV is not 100 percent accurate in it’s translation. Together, with the KJV, NIV, Interlinear Hebrew Greek and English, Matthew Henrys concise and 6 volume commentaries, Strongs Exaustive Concordance, The Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge (TSK) and various other study materials, I am finally able to understand 99 percent of whatever I read. Yet, and still, every time I reread, I see that there is still more than I have seen before. Through the invaluable and FREE resources of eSword, I also have dozens of other versions of scripture. Some aren’t worth the Cyber Space they are written in. I know exactly what you mean when you state, “Personally I think we go too far trying to accommodate everyone’s preferences to the point of dividing ourselves.” I also know the feeling of “not confusion, but indecision concerning how to word it” experienced by those such you and me who use more than one version. This limits me to the KJ and NIV. The various others are only study aids. It also leads me to much paraphrasing, which is not necessarily good. I have determined that I will not be mislead concerning scripture, and have concluded that there is only ONE TRUE WORD. As long as the versions are true to scripture, I can’t help but to think of what the Lord said to the disciples concerning those who did not teach as they did. Personally I think that if a person is sincere, the Holy Spirit will reveal the truth, and thus the individual will hopefully follow. As to the divisions and confusion caused by the various versions, I feel that they are due primarily to the fact that the Church does not always practise what it is that they are supposed to preach. Neither do they always preach what it is that one is commanded to practise. I would put you in mind of what is said in scripture concerning “itching ears.” GB |

Hopefully... So true are the words you relay, yet I like KJ's "itching ear" translation a little better. Likewise I also like KJ's "Study to shew thyself approved" rather than my # 2 versions "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved." I'm sure you can tell me where those verses are found, but without peeking at my profile, can you name my #2 version? For the life of me, I can't figure which version "tickles" the ear. GB |
