Steve, Good day brother. I wholeheartedly agree with you. You and I along with so many others grew up in a western culture and consequently we will approach most things with a western mindset. We can't always do that where the bible is concerned. It helps allot when people know or understand that the bible was born in an eastern culture and the majority of those who wrote wrote the bible (God is the author) grew up and were raised in that culture. So we cant always approach things the way would like to. I spent allot of time overseas while I was in the navy and it was a definite plus to understand how the local populace thought about and did things. When we approach our study of the bible with this in mind we will find our study of bible even more effective. In Him, lionheart |

WannaBapostule, Well son I would highly recommend you look at 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16,17. Is it that you are to lazy or just unwilling. 1 Timothy 4:16 instructs us to watch our life and doctrine closely. How will you know if God is revealing himself to you if you are not spending time with Him in his Word? Don't allow yourself to be fooled. In Him, lionheart |

Hey brother, Tradition, funny you should mention that. I'd just got back from our men's midweek when I got your reply. Our associate evangelist just happened to bring that very subject up. Tradition isn't always a bad thing until it supplants or contradicts Gods Word. Whats the old saying, it only hurts for a little while. I think we both may be a little cantankerous. 166 | God love the senner but hate the sin | NT general | lionheart | 202790
gospelcompilation, I have a question for you. Where do you come off judging anyone as having anti-Christian attitudes. None of us is perfect, not even close. Folks are asking you to substantiate your positions with scripture. Read 2 Timothy 2:15 and 3:16,17. You tell folks that if they search long enough they'll find. How does one do that? How are you doing that? The bible is the standard God has given us, without it we don't have a leg to stand on. 1 Timothy 4:16 tells us to watch our life and doctrine closely. Read the rest of that verse and youll see why. Look at Romans 3:23,24 all have sinned, all fall short. Thank God for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As disciples of Jesus Christ we are called to hold each other to the standard of His Word. If we truly love oneanother as God loves us then this is what we will do. No one judges you, no one, none of us has that rite. In Him, lionheart |

Jsph, In scriptural exegesis time and place are important. 2Tim 2:15 accurately handling the Word of truth. With that in mind take a look at Eph 4:6. The key word in this verse and the context within which it's written is one. In Him, lionheart |

174 | How can you explain the SDA faiths? | NT general | lionheart | 229473
Jsph, The key word I reference is one. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. I wasn't asking about time and place when referencing scripture such as your handling of baptism. In Him, lionheart |

rb8, This is a subject that has long been debated by Christians here on the forum and other venues and as such has been misquoted, misstated and in some cases trivialized. We get into these things because we don't let God's Word speak for itself. Sound basic Bible study principals can put allot of these debates to rest. Example- The thief on the cross. It's obvious that he could not be baptized. Here is an example of where time and when are critical in our understanding. The baptism understood at this time was John's baptism. The baptism we have today did not come until Pentecost. This is part of sound basic bible study. (2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21.) Study this subject out in light of Acts 2:38, Romans 6 ect. It all fits together. In Him, lionheart |

177 | Why did God test Adam and Eve ? | Genesis | lionheart | 153525
Dear Beseder, Happy freedom day and Gods blessings to you and welcome to the forum. Matthew 5:17-20 For space sake I will just refer to verse 17 of Matthew five. VS 17- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets:I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them(NIV).Read the rest of the passage refered to above,it carries a lot of weight.Romans 15:4 2 Peter 1:21 2 Timothy 3:16,17 It's all Gods Word from Genesis to Revelation. We can ill afford to neglect or negate any part of it. I recently heard this coment and it just blew me away. It wasnt like it wasnt something I was not aware of,oft times we ignore things that are the most obvious. But a friend of mine made this statement- The Old Testament is the physical manifestation of the spiritual truths taught in the New Testament.God has given us a gold mine. Why not tap into all of it's riches and resources. Thats what God wants us to do,thats what we must do if we are to lead the lives as the men and women of God He has called us to be. Your brother in Christ, lionheart |

179 | questions for use in leading bible study | Genesis | lionheart | 206325
Imm, One thing I've learned over the years is that some of the best bible studies can come from our daily devotionals and I try to make that one of the very first things I do when I get up. Most times when we are asked to lead a study it will usually be in a pretty informal setting. Some of the best studies I've been blessed to lead have come right out of my daily quiet times. A habit I got into as a new disciple was to write down my quiet times. This has always served me well when it was my turn to lead a study. In Him, lionheart |
