1462 | Do you believe in being chosen? | Gen 2:9 | BradK | 126036
Bruce7, It might help if you could qualify your question with a reference as to what exactly your looking for:-) It's a bit open-ended. I would have to believe in being chosen as scripture tells me I am. Particularly Col. 3:12: "So, as those who have been chosen of God..." 2nd Thessalonians tells us that "...we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation..." Obviously there are numerous other references such as 1 Tim. 5:21, 2 Tim. 2:10, Tit. 1:1 and 1 Pet. 2:9, etc. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1463 | What Can The BLOOD OF JESUS do For Me? | Eph 1:7 | BradK | 125442
adex, There are several things the Blood of Jesus does for you and me: 1."...propitiation in His blood through faith."(Ro 3:25) 2."having now been justified by His blood," (Ro 5:9) 3. "...we have redemption through His blood," (Eph 1:7) 4. "(we)...have been brought near by the blood of Christ." (Eph 2:13) 5. "having made peace through the blood of His cross;" (Col 1:20) 6. "we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus," (Heb 10:19) 7. "and the blood of Jesus His Son, cleanses us from all sin" (1 Jn 1:7) Thos is by no means all-inclusive, but should hopefully serve to answer your question. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1464 | I just dont know what I am. | 2 Cor 5:18 | BradK | 125115
David, Two things we can look at: 1. 2 Cor. 5:18 tells us "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." 2. We are also called "sanctified in Christ Jesus", "saints by calling" in 1 Cor. 1:2. However, we do still have a fleshly nature that we struggle with. Gal 5:17 says "For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please." So, we do have to balance who we are in Christ with the fleshly nature that still resides in us. We are sinners saved by grace made righteous and holy in His sight by His doing (1 Cor. 1:30). 1465 | Different names used for God | Ps 83:18 | BradK | 124324
Liebschein, This is from Bible.org: Overview of the Names of God in Scripture (1) Elohim: The plural form of EL, meaning “strong one.” It is used of false gods, but when used of the true God, it is a plural of majesty and intimates the trinity. It is especially used of God’s sovereignty, creative work, mighty work for Israel and in relation to His sovereignty (Isa. 54:5; Jer. 32:27; Gen. 1:1; Isa. 45:18; Deut. 5:23; 8:15; Ps. 68:7). Compounds of El: El Shaddai: “God Almighty.” The derivation is uncertain. Some think it stresses God’s loving supply and comfort; others His power as the Almighty one standing on a mountain and who corrects and chastens (Gen. 17:1; 28:3; 35:11; Ex. 6:31; Ps. 91:1, 2). El Elyon: “The Most High God.” Stresses God’s strength, sovereignty, and supremacy (Gen. 14:19; Ps. 9:2; Dan. 7:18, 22, 25). El Olam: “The Everlasting God.” Emphasizes God’s unchangeableness and is connected with His inexhaustibleness (Gen. 16:13). (2) Yahweh (YHWH): Comes from a verb which means “to exist, be.” This, plus its usage, shows that this name stresses God as the independent and self-existent God of revelation and redemption (Gen. 4:3; Ex. 6:3 (cf. 3:14); 3:12). Compounds of Yahweh: Strictly speaking, these compounds are designations or titles which reveal additional facts about God’s character. Yahweh Jireh (Yireh): “The Lord will provide.” Stresses God’s provision for His people (Gen. 22:14). Yahweh Nissi: “The Lord is my Banner.” Stresses that God is our rallying point and our means of victory; the one who fights for His people (Ex. 17:15). Yahweh Shalom: “The Lord is Peace.” Points to the Lord as the means of our peace and rest (Jud. 6:24). Yahweh Sabbaoth: “The Lord of Hosts.” A military figure portraying the Lord as the commander of the armies of heaven (1 Sam. 1:3; 17:45). Yahweh Maccaddeshcem: “The Lord your Sanctifier.” Portrays the Lord as our means of sanctification or as the one who sets believers apart for His purposes (Ex. 31:13). Yahweh Ro’i: “The Lord my Shepherd.” Portrays the Lord as the Shepherd who cares for His people as a shepherd cares for the sheep of his pasture (Ps. 23:1). Yahweh Tsidkenu: “The Lord our Righteousness.” Portrays the Lord as the means of our righteousness (Jer. 23:6). Yahweh Shammah: “The Lord is there.” Portrays the Lord’s personal presence in the millennial kingdom (Ezek. 48:35). Yahweh Elohim Israel: “The Lord, the God of Israel.” Identifies Yahweh as the God of Israel in contrast to the false gods of the nations (Jud. 5:3.; Isa. 17:6). (3) Adonai: Like Elohim, this too is a plural of majesty. The singular form means “master, owner.” Stresses man’s relationship to God as his master, authority, and provider (Gen. 18:2; 40:1; 1 Sam. 1:15; Ex. 21:1-6; Josh. 5:14). (4) Theos: Greek word translated “God.” Primary name for God used in the New Testament. Its use teaches: (1) He is the only true God (Matt. 23:9; Rom. 3:30); (2) He is unique (1 Tim. 1:17; John 17:3; Rev. 15:4; 16:27); (3) He is transcendent (Acts 17:24; Heb. 3:4; Rev. 10:6); (4) He is the Savior (John 3:16; 1 Tim. 1:1; 2:3; 4:10). This name is used of Christ as God in John 1:1, 18; 20:28; 1 John 5:20; Tit. 2:13; Rom. 9:5; Heb. 1:8; 2 Pet. 1:1. (5) Kurios: Greek word translated “Lord.” Stresses authority and supremacy. While it can mean sir (John 4:11), owner (Luke 19:33), master (Col. 3:22), or even refer to idols (1 Cor. 8:5) or husbands (1 Pet. 3:6), it is used mostly as the equivalent of Yahweh of the Old Testament. It too is used of Jesus Christ meaning (1) Rabbi or Sir (Matt. 8:6); (2) God or Deity (John 20:28; Acts 2:36; Rom. 10:9; Phil. 2:11). (6) Despotes: Greek word translated “Master.” Carries the idea of ownership while kurios stressed supreme authority (Luke 2:29; Acts 4:24; Rev. 6:10; 2 Pet. 2:1; Jude 4). (7) Father: A distinctive New Testament revelation is that through faith in Christ, God becomes our personal Father. Father is used of God in the Old Testament only 15 times while it is used of God 245 times in the New Testament. As a name of God, it stresses God’s loving care, provision, discipline, and the way we are to address God in prayer (Matt. 7:11; Jam. 1:17; Heb. 12:5-11; John 15:16; 16:23; Eph. 2:18; 3:15; 1 Thess. 3:11). 1470 | How do you know you are saved? | 1 Cor 2:11 | BradK | 123488
Hi Mark, Well, how about a short answer to an involved question? First, 1 Cor. 2:11-13 : "10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words." Then, 1 John 4:15: "15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God." "11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:11-13) Last, here should be some evidence of the fruit of the Spirit as in Gal. 5:22-23. I know that this is a short answer, but time is tight right now. I hope this helps, BradK |

1471 | saved | Rom 10:13 | BradK | 123456
Elder, Lets look at a few verses of scipture to answer your question. John 17:3 says, "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." And, Romans 10:13 tells us "for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." It is also important to note that salvation is a free gift (Rom. 3:24), that is given by grace through faith: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.(Eph. 2:8-9) "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit," (Tit. 3:5) Baptism would not be a "requirement" for salvation but would be viewed as an initial step of obedience. We always want to make sure to distinguish between what saves us (grace through faith) and what we do by obedience (baptism). I hope this helps, BradK |

1472 | conflict in relationship | Col 3:1 | BradK | 123386
Hello jessica21, First, keep small things small and realize there are two parties to a relationship. you can't change him, but you can work on your own growth. Since the purpose of this Forum is not counsel related, I would recommend that you seek some good mentorship within your local church for guideance in your relationship. It may be a Pastor, elder or other qualified individual that you see or know has a good relationship with their spouse. Second, a couple books I'd recommend are: 1. The 5 Love Languages; 2. Fit To Be Tied (Bill and Lynn Hybels) I've read them both and highly recommend them- especially if you're serious about your relationship. Last, take a look at Colosians 3:1-14 with particular emphasis on verses 12-14: "So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity." I hope this helps, BradK |

1473 | i wanna know how did Jeremiah died? | Jer 44:1 | BradK | 123294
Bria, According to Easton's Bible Dictionary, "He lived till the reign of Evil-Merodach, son of Nebuchadnezzar, and must have been about ninety years of age at his death. We have no authentic record of his death. He may have died at Tahpanhes, or, according to a tradition, may have gone to Babylon with the army of Nebuchadnezzar; but of this there is nothing certain." 1474 | What was the original sin? | Gen 3:1 | BradK | 123165
gawdzdice, In Genesis 2:16-17, God warns, "The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." The original sin is called The Fall of Man and is recorded in Genesis 3:1-6: "Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’ ” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate." 1478 | Right purposes for miracles | NT general Archive 1 | BradK | 122354
Zsuzsi, I think you make some excellent observations! Do we seek (just)to be healed, or do we seek the Healer! As I've said before- and I believe it is a valid distinction- Do we come to God for Who He is, or for what He can do for us? Certainly Exodus 15:26 says, ..."for I, the Lord, am your healer" (Jehovah Repehka). And He is, but He is more than just the God who heals. He is the Alpha and Omega, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Without trying to place limits on God ( which I'm not), we should also seek Him because He is (Ps. 46:10). "Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing?" ( Job. 1:9) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1479 | Can "coming" be translated "presence?" | Matt 24:3 | BradK | 122353
bstudent3, Your attempts to post are not taken seriously because you have been revoked! With that given, here is my response: The Greek, parousia (coming) is used 24 times in the NT. All but twice it is translated "coming". It does not fit theologically in Matt. 24:3 as "coming" is not "presence". It is not..."the sign of Your PRESENCE...! Note Phil. 1:26, "That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again." Presence would not make as much grammatical sense- and Paul coming invisibly makes absolutely no sense. His coming will take place as Revelation 1:7 says: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." His coming is a visible one- not invisible as the Watchtower teach- as scripture clearly teaches. BradK |
