141 | Reading Harry Potter | Bible general Archive 2 | Makarios | 129845
Greetings Ed! It's been a long time since we spoke on the forum.. I agree: it would be tragic if some people or group were to attempt magic, or to attempt to 'use the force' after reading a Star Wars or Harry Potter book. That definitely would be a violation of Scripture. But I, for one, do not have a temptation to do those things after reading these series. I pray that a non-Christian does not find the allure to do these types of things after reading such a series, but I do not believe that the works themselves support that. I merely see them as fantasy. Blessings to you, Makarios |

145 | What is the best version of the Bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 3249
The NASB is my Bible of choice and it is the perfect Bible for me! I will use it for all time as my primary Bible. The Amplified is another good Bible, but I only use it to obtain a fresh sense of interpretation during my study (in the place of a paraphrase). There are several Bible Versions that I will stay away from and choose not to use.
146 | Holman Bible: Critical or Majority Text? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 3459
Yeah, I know what you mean.. I own a HCSB NT and I read that too. :) I see only black and white here: either its a literal rendering or an interpretive rendering, there is no 'in-between'.. I pretty much like the HCSB, and I feel that it would be Ok to recommend to someone else. I view it in the same way as the NIV almost.. But it comes way short of even challenging the place that the NASB has acquired in my heart, being Holy and acceptable- bringing order to chaos. The NASB was obviously completed by the best scholarship in the land, producing a translation with majestic grandeur. The NASB continues year after year to be the one written source of inspiration to which I can turn to in my darkest hour of need as well as in my most radiant moments of joy!
147 | Is being "slain in the spirit" biblical? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5122
Steve, in each case that you cited above, it was God that was acting through His Presence and not an act of man (where someone who has 'anointing' lays their hands upon you and you are knocked cold). I agree with you and EdB that God can do whatever He wants, but I feel that calling this "temporary paralyzation" by God being 'slain in the spirit' is a bad way to describe such an experience. It should be more like "overcome by the Presence of God" or something like that. In any case, I feel that it must be God who governs and administers such a Presence or power over people instead of man. I realize that God could 'work through' man if He so desires, but there must be an undeniable Presence of God there that affects the entire congregation as a whole instead of a singled out person. I also believe that there is a difference between being 'slain in the spirit' and being 'pierced to the heart' (Acts 2:37).
148 | what were the 7 Messianic signs | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5209
Wow! This is interesting in that John 2:1-11 is the miracle at Cana (changing water into wine - the first miracle), John 4:46-54 is the healing of a nobleman's son (the second miracle), John 5:1-18 is the healing at Bethesda (where Jesus healed a man who had been sick for 38 years), John 6:6-13 is the feeding of the five thousand, John 6:16-21 is where Jesus walks on water, John 9:1-7 is where Jesus heals a man born blind, and John 11:1-45 is where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.I've never looked at the Gospel of John quite like that before! Great observation! :)

151 | Is infant baptism Biblical? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5684
Thank you charis, JVH2012, Hank, and rextar! I appreciate your support for the idea around rebaptism. As for orthodoxy, I feel quite insulted by his comments about the Anabaptists and I speak for any or all of those who may have Anabaptist roots. I would take offense and I am tempted to retaliate, but I will not for the sake of the Forum.

Dear EdB and Hank: I forgive you EdB! Don't worry, I understand, and I can see why you felt that way. Thank you Hank! I appreciate your kinds words and you always encourage me (which I am very thankful)! I look up to you (Barnabus :) ) as someone whose conduct I can also model myself after. Thank you!As for orthodoxy, I forgive him also. What I originally found insulting in his post was that "rebaptism is an act of unbelief". This is what I have chosen not to reply to as to create strife. But I forgive orthodoxy, as I perceive that he wasn't trying to argue. Orthodoxy and I will inevitably cross paths again and our future interaction will not be swayed based on the post that he wrote.I thank EdB for your concern, though. Blessings, Nolan.
153 | Where are guardian angels mentioned? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5871
There is a passage in Acts 12:15 where a woman named Rhoda mistakens Peter for his angel. I presume that this verse, along with Matthew 18:10, 2 Kings 6:17, Luke 16:22, Matthew 26:53 and Psalm 91:9-11 help to support the idea of a 'guardian angel'.. Blessings, Nolan
154 | Where are guardian angels mentioned? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5904
Dear friend Charis! Thank you for your response. No, I didn't lose sleep over this question (being in a different time zone :) ).. Yes, I read Acts 12:15 and came to the conclusion that this was not supportive of the theory of guardian angels either. Hebrews 1:14 comes the closest to giving evidence for guardian angels, but one cannot base a belief of guardian angels on that since it only mentions angels as 'ministering spirits'.. I agree with you that the idea of everyone having their own individual angel is hard to grasp. If something were to happen to us, like a car accident, then we ask "Where was my angel?". It is good to keep in mind that God uses adversity to help develop our 'faith muscles' (James 1:2-4). And even though God may not always remove us from the midst of adversity, He will always walk with us through the adversity (Psalm 23:4). So either way, God knows all and sees all, but these verses alone are not conclusive enough (for me) to prove that we each have a guardian angel that is stationed or commissioned to us.
155 | Babies in heaven when they die? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 5937
Thank you all for your input that you have each put a lot of thought into and have researched, I appreciate answers on this subject that are based upon the Bible! I had always leaned towards the possibility that small children and infants that died very early would be taken to heaven since they had not yet reached the age of accountability. But that was just my own point of view until I asked the question, which you all have shed some much needed "light" upon! Thank you, and I pray that we can comfort those who may have lost their loved ones in the past. Blessings in Jesus! -Nolan

157 | Is infant baptism Biblical? | Bible general Archive 1 | Makarios | 6035
Thanks Joe, I'm glad that you believe that this topic is worthy of discussion, despite you being a 5 point Calvinist. As for me, I not worried about counting if I am a 3 or 4 point Arminianist, but I just boast in the fact that I know Christ as my own personal Savior and am in a right relationship with Him. It is good to know though, since you are so slanted towards Calvinism, that there is someone like me on the Forum to balance or counter some of your reformed points of view. And of course, I'm willing to stand up to all that reformed theology, backed by Scripture.
