152 | Jude quotes Enoch? | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 184127
Hi West, I would say that the answer to your question is contained in your post. If we stick to what the Bible tells us, Jude cites his source, Enoch. So apparently, this quotation comes from Enoch. As we know that all Scripture is "God-breathed", this likewise was given by God to Jude to write. As you say, the source is not specified, other than coming by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, therefore, we should not assume a particular intermediary source. The only answer that is supported by Scripture is that the Holy Spirit inspired Jude to record a prophecy given by Enoch. The fact that the "book of Enoch" also quotes Enoch's prophecy really has no significance to this question. The book of Enoch is not considered canonical, nor is it considered to even have been written by Enoch. Many people make the assumption that Jude is quoting from the book of Enoch, but Jude and the book of Enoch could just as easily be quoting from a separate source. I hope this helps! 153 | Women in charge of the assembly | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 185516
Since your question seeks the reasoning behind specific actions, namely allowing a woman "to be in charge of the assembly", it needs to be directed to someone who has actually done that. And even so, they could only answer for themselves, and not for all others. As it is framed, we could only speculate on the motivations of others, and I don't think it's reasonable to do so. 155 | Help choosing Linear Bible | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 188416
Hi Cheri, I use the e-sword resources the most, but for a good and inexpensive interlinear NT, I like George Ricker Berry ,ISBN 0805413723. It include the textual variants from several textual editors, as well as a consise lexicon. It also contains the King James in the margin, and is available for around 25 dollars in paperback. 157 | Dino eat meat or plants preflood? | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 189551
There are a number of animals that have large sharp teeth that are plant eaters. Fruit bats have teeth that look like they would tear flesh, but they eat fruit. There is a Chinese deer: "As has already been mentioned males do not grow antlers. However, like most of the Muntjac species of deer bucks have well developed canine teeth. The bucks use these when fighting with other bucks, or when defending themselves. They are especially sharp, and capable of causing severe injuries on opponents. When fighting the tusks are used for stabbing or slashing. In old animals the tusks can be broken or show visible signs of wear and tear. The canine teeth can grow to 6 cm in length and protrude down from the upper lip. They are often described as being fangs or tusks. Females also grow tusks, but they are much smaller than in the males, mostly being only 1 to 2 cm in length. The tusks of the females are rarely visible. The tusks have a special muscular hinge, which means they can move slightly to make grazing easier." (from www.worlddeer.org) There are many examples of this. Unless we are able to observe an animal's eating habits, we don't actually know what they are. Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Henry, Those who are daily walking in the Spirit, produce the fruit of the Spirit, agape love (love that devotes itself to the object of that love). This love becomes their chief characturistic. Those who do not actually know the Lord Jesus, or who do not keep His word, will not have this love. We will see in those people the works of the flesh, and those works do not attract others to Jesus. In the parable of the tares, Jesus told us that the enemy would plant look-alikes, but that they would not be true. Our mission is to minister to everyone around us, believer, unbeliever, or unknown, and allow the Lord Jesus to give us understanding and guidance to how He wants us to do that. 1 John 2:5-10 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. Love in Christ, Mark |

160 | Unreasonable? | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 126776
Hi Stultis, I don't think it is unreasonable for us to ponder anything if our heart is in sincere and honest pursuit of God's truth. "Seek, and ye shall find!" Jesus said that as Jonah was in the belly of the fish so he would be in the heart of the earth. This does not mean that Jonah was actually in the earth, but that one thing illustrates another. Jesus uses the familiar account to illustrate the point He is making, but that does not change the meaning of the original story. In Ex. 20:9-11, God says that as He created the the heavens and the earth in six days, then rested on the seventh day. He blessed that day, and told the Israelites to likewise rest on that day. The simple plain meaning of this is that these are days as we know them, as we would rest on the seventh day, that is the kind of day God created in. Hebrews and Psalms speak of the day of rest in the grander scheme of God, particularly Hebrews. We are to cease from our own work, and enter His rest. Hebrews uses one thing to illustrate another, but again, that does not mean that it changes the meaning of the original story. Love in Christ, Mark |
