145 | Again on blaspheming the Holy Spirit? | Luke 12:10 | Emmaus | 152015
James, As Doctrinsograce indicated, in the context of Matt 12:22-31 blaspheming against the Holy spirit is attributing the works of God to the Satan. Matt 12:22 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw. Matt 12:23 All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, "This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?" Matt 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons." Matt 12:25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. Matt 12:26 "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? Matt 12:27 "If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges. Matt 12:28 "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Matt 12:29 "Or how can anyone enter the strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. Matt 12:30 "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters. Matt 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Matt 12:32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. The Gospel of John draws special attention to seven "signs" or miracles of Jesus that unveil the the glory and power of God working through Him. The miracle at Cana, John 2:1-11. 2. the healing of the official's son 4:46-54. 3. The healing of the paralytic 5:1-9. 4. The multiplication of the loaves 6:1-14. 5. The restoration of sight to the blind man 9:1- 41. 6. The raising of Lazarus from the dead 11:17-44. 7. The Resurrection of jesus 20:1-10. They also recal the signs performed by Moses during the Exodus, signs that liewise reveal the Glory of Yahweh. Numbers 14:22; Exodus 3:12; 4:28-31; Dueteronomy 34:11. Emmaus |

153 | 2 Kings 2:12-14 Significance of mantle | 2 Kin 2:14 | Emmaus | 151854
"What is the significance of Elijah's mantle? 2 Kings 2:12-14" It is a symbol of his authority and power, his "portion". 2 Kings 2:7-10 Now fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan. Elijah took his mantle and folded it together and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." He said, "You have asked a hard thing. evertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so." Emmaus |

154 | Why is a Cross with Jesus not idolatry? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 151689
Jim O, "Why is a Cross with Jesus not idolatry? Dueteronomy says any image of man, woman, or beast (paraphrasing) is an idol. I have not been able to find anything saying it's OK..." A crucifix is no more an idol than the statutes of our national leaders and heros throughout this country. It is only idolatry if people worship it rather that who and what it is there to remind them of. Just as God told Moses to make the brazen serpent on the pole. It was only a problem centuries later when some people started worshiping it as an idol, not when it was used by God to heal people by looking upon it. Num 21:8 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live." Num 21:9 And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived. See also the bronze oxen which supported the brazen sea in the Temple. 2 Kings 16:17 They were not idols either. Emmaus |

157 | Really live? | 1 Thess 3:8 | Emmaus | 151649
Mommapbs, Doc said: "Reading the biographies of great men and women of faith should be a discipline of every believer. "For example, I strongly encourage that you read the biography of John Newton, the man who wrote Amazing Grace. "By the way, you might also be blessed by the biography by Corrie ten Boom. When I read your words, I remembered something she said: "Look within, be depressed; look without, be distressed; look above, be at rest!" Be encouraged, dear sister, the Lord is the author and perfector of our faith!" I agree. That is the whole idea behind reading the lives of the Saints in the Catholic tradition. I also highly recommend The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. Over the years I have read it aloud to my daughter as she was growing up and then we read it to each other in turns and she has given it as gifts to friends. Emmaus |

158 | moses was to strike a certain rock | 1 Cor 10:4 | Emmaus | 151620
1 Cor 10:1-6 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. Ex 17:6 "Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. Num 20:8, 10-11 "Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink." and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, "Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?" Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. Emmaus |

159 | regarding sanctification | Ex 28:3 | Emmaus | 151617
heizlrd, On sanctification, sometimes called the increase of justification: "Having, therefore, been thus justified and made the friends and domestics of God,[Eph. 2:19] advancing from virtue to virtue,[Ps. 83:8] they are renewed, as the Apostle says, day by day,[See 2 Cor. 4:16] that is, mortifying the members[Col. 3:5] of their flesh, and presenting them as instruments of justice unto sanctification,[Rom. 6:13, 19] they, through the observance of the commandments of God and of the Church, faith cooperating with good works, increase in that justice received through the grace of Christ and are further justified, as it is written: He that is just, let him be justified still;[Rev. 22:11] and, .. again, Do you see that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only?[James 2:24]" Emmaus |
