121 | 2 Cor. 12:1-6 | Num 33:55 | Scribe | 64641
Considering Paul's Mastery of Old Testament Scripture and the way he constantly referred to them in his speach even when he did not specifically say "it is written" I am of the persuasion that Paul was speaking of the Old Testement application of this phrase Thorn in the flesh. Numbers 33:55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Joshua 23:13 Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. Judges 2:3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. If so then Paul is speaking of the ungodly or a man that is bent on giving Paul grief. This man is being used by satan though he may not know it and is bent on making Paul's life miserable.. Or.. it could be spiritual attacks but it was such that Paul was suffering from it. Either he was suffering physically as in getting imprisoned or having already been imprisoned, this man was trying to make sure Paul would not come out... so that when maybe Paul would have been released he was kept in only becuase of this messenger of satan. Paul could have been very aware of this messenger of satan being the direct reason for his suffering and yet, the Lord is telling Paul " You don't see the whole plan but trust me.. in your moment of weakness and suffering I am doing things in you that would not be done otherwise" |

123 | Seeing and talking to God vs praying | Deut 4:1 | Scribe | 41731
Deuteronomy 4:12 2 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only [ye heard] a voice Actually no man has seen the literal face of God EXCEPT for Jesus. God showed only similitudes to Moses and others even as he stated here in Deut 4 And the reason he stated there also, so they would not create vain images and call it God. God did speak in a Voice from Heaven and also manifestations with Christ His Only Begotten SOn.. Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. But only of Jesus is it said... John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him]. Here is one more thought along this topic. Some people not thinking it through wonder why God does not choose to speak audibly to all saints and they wish He would. But Our God has provided something better than that. God will live on the inside of the believer and speak to him even in his thoughts and spirit. So isn't better to carry on your conversations with God in private rather than Have God speaking to you for the whole world to hear? I mean isn't it better to have God on the inside so that you may constantly commune with not matter where you are than to have to call him up on the phone or meet him at Starbucks for a discussion? God is Great and Greatly to be Praised. |

124 | where is caanan? | Deut 11:30 | Scribe | 54855
(2.) The country which derived its name from the preceding. The name as first used by the Phoenicians denoted only the maritime plain on which Sidon was built. But in the time of Moses and Joshua it denoted the whole country to the west of the Jordan and the Dead Sea (De 11:30). In Jos 5:12 the LXX. read, "land of the Phoenicians," instead of "land of Canaan." From Eastons Bible Dictionary |

125 | Use Tithe on yourself? | Deut 14:23 | Scribe | 54619
It sounds like it to me. There were several types of tithes. However remember that this is to the Jew not the gentile. This law was never given to a gentile. You can see that by the context where it says if anything dies of itself the Jew could not eat it, but he could give it to the foriegner that dwelt with them, they were not under this law. Interesting truth. This demonstrates that the dietary laws were not for sanitation reasons but to teach spiritual truths. God was not outlawing eating something that dies, becuase they might get sick and then say but give it to the foreigner in your gate, it doesn't matter if he gets sick. NO. This statement makes it clear that the dietary laws teach spiritual truths if we have ears to hear. The Christian is to keep the spiritual truth though the exact details about the grain tithe does not apply the truth behind it does. What is it? Praise, and Thanksgiving. That is the revelation David had and it is also what the apostles taught concerning sacrifices and giving in spirit and in truth. |

127 | Is God truly merciful if He killed kids? | 1 Sam 15:3 | Scribe | 42066
I usually explain this by thinking about what other information we have about these cities they were to destroy. We have archaelogy discoveries that reveal that these people did practice everything from canabalism to beastiality. They also would dedicate a building by plastering a baby in the walls. They offered their children to idols even placing them in the arms of bronze statues made to glow red with heat. Now we can understand why they may have been beyond hope and God had, had enough, even as with Sodom and Gomorah who when angels came in their midst still refused to repent and even wanted to cast their sin on the Holy messengers. So what if the babies in these villages were infected with multiple diseases and had no chance of living, God could have been taking the babies soul away from the horror of the life their wicked parents were forcing on them. You can say God would not do that but that is because we look at things after the cross and after the world has been changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ (whether the world and political landscape knows it or not) and we cannot understand the affairs of government in those days. We do not even understand how a prophet could be holy and have multiple wives, but he could. Not now of course because things have changed in our understanding and moral constitution becuase of the cross and effect of the the church on the world. In some of these small villages there may not have been many children left due to the hineous crimes of the adults. One thing is for sure. When the wrath of God begins to be poured out on the world as spoken in Revelation, and one third of mankind is killed from just one of the plagues or judgements poured out, there will be babies involved. There must have been infants in Sodom and Gommorah (unless they had eaten them all). That an infant suffers death when the cataclysmic judgements of God fall is not so horrible as the idea that men would ignore the escape from wrath offered them at this present time. If an infant dies he or she will go to a better place, if an adult dies and has not repented and put faith in Christ he is lost forever and forever is a long time. |

129 | Is suicide a mortal sin? | 2 Sam 17:23 | Scribe | 42884
2 Samuel 17:23 And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father. When you read of the examples of those that killed themselves in the Bible you will notice one thing all had issues that made them in a lost condition as it relates to salvation and eternal life before they killed themselves. We are saved by faith in the Lord, repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than getting hung up on the logic of can a person be forgive of suicide (sense all sin can be forgive) it probably would be better to ask "can a person be saved without faith" of which there could hardly be any present in the act of suicide. God bless you in your Study of His Word. |

130 | What does 1 Samuel 16:14-16 mean? | 1 Kin 22:22 | Scribe | 48045
1 Kings 22:20-23 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. Here once again, we have a window opened into that mysterious realm called the heavenlies, not the holy of holies where God dwells, for in that place no demons of devils draw nigh, but we have here an open vision into certain administrations that take place in the lower levels of the heavenlies or spirit realms, that if God did not give us such a glance we would have no idea that such things occur. When we read this passage we are reminded of the window opened in Job when we see satan coming in a similar gathering of heavenly creatures. And so here a lying spirit, but not satan and not a good angel, but probably one of the fallen angels volunteers for the job. This shows us many things. One that God will allow these evil powers to work in the earth for his purposes. God was going to persuade the king to go out to battle so that he might be killed. God was doing so because the king was exceeding wicked and would not repent. God had every right to judge him. God could have used any means of judgement that he chose. God will use the powers of darkness and let them come upon men to persuade a man to destruction. This is not the same as tempting man. It is the man being drawn away by his own lust. The good news is that for the saint who seeks the Lord in faith God can keep these evil powers from being allowed to try and persuade you. Even this wicked king.. God had to give permission before this evil lying spirit was allowed to go persuade him to go down to battle. Looking at this passage and comparing it with Saul you see the truth about how it is the mans fault, but God lets the judgement of the evil spirits come upon them. Yes this evil spirit was from the Lord, but only in the same way that you would say God let down the hedge.. and fear God because if we rebel in hard hearted unbelief and willful going of our own ways for sinful lusts, then we too are made vulnerable to the powers of darkness. |

132 | Was jabez saved? | 1 Chr 4:9 | Scribe | 86619
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. It is possible that he was a seeker of knowledge in the word of God and that is why he was considered more honorable than his brethren. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. The Jews have a tradition that he was a Dr. of the Law. It is possible that he was a Scribe and that the Jabez the town was named after him. 1 Chronicles 2:55 And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; I see in this prayer not a "make me rich" prayer but an earnest heart cry to be pleasing to God. And his FAITH granted him his petition, showing that whenever a man would dare break out of the normal and exercise a heart of Faith toward God, God was always delighting in moving to bless them with a Revelation of God Himself. He goes down in history as an example of how of the sons of Judah listed, God takes time out of the monotonous genealogy and says.. BUT THIS ONE WAS MORE HONORABLE.. as an inspiration to us.. Will you go down in history as just the son of your father in some ancient genealogy.. just a birth record, a death certificate, and your name on some roll somewhere archived in a dusty library.. or will you allow FAITH to cause you to break out of the norm and TAKE hold of the Feet of God (in Christ) and Say Oh Lord Bless ME.. make me to shine with Your Glory. John 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Matthew 26:13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. |

134 | Trace enmity between satan and the woman | 1 Chr 21:1 | Scribe | 48210
1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Revelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. Revelation 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. |

135 | Are these verses contradictory? | 1 Chr 28:9 | Scribe | 100210
1 Chronicles 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Here the proclamation is made that if a man were to forsake the Lord he himself will be forsaken. This is the truth, and we understand the idea to be that of a full forsaking. Such as a man who stops serving God and dies that way. The other passage is about what "seems" to be a forsaking because it appears "in this life" due to hardships that God is no where to be seen, but we are to trust and wait and endure suffering if need be becuase surely he will appear and to our salvation. Lamentations 3:24-31 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. For the Lord will not cast off for ever: These two phrases are are different types of forsaking based on context. This is not becuase KJV is wrong, it is a natural way of speaking both in Hebrew and in English. We often use the same phrases to mean different types of things based on context. If we forsake the Lord and choose to live in sinful indulgence with no heart of repentance and an indifference to the coming day of the Lord, then we will be forsaken regardless of what lies you have heard to the contrary the scriptures are very plain on this. If we are going through hardship as we ARE SERVING the Lord, and if it SEEMS like He has forsaken us, it is not really true and it is only temporary, we will see his deliverance, He will not forsake us forever. But also if we have done some evil deed and are suffering for it, such as imprisoned for crime, and yet we are repentant and and desire to know God and serve Him fully; we may not be freed from prison but have to live in that horrible pit all the rest of our lives nevertheless, He will not forsake forever, we may be reaping what we have sown now, and we may deserve it, and it is just that God has allowed us to be imprisoned, nevertheless if a man repents and beleives, he will see salvation and not have to suffer forever. |

137 | Explain million year old dinosaurs. | Job | Scribe | 43855
How can we reconcile the claims of scientists on the age of the earth and or bones and rocks being millions of years old when real science in the lab does not conclusively proof this? The only answer to that is that many scientists are willing to make some sort of faith based assumptions in order to follow a line of thought. This is not real science. Real science does not draw concrete conclusions on theoritical data. Carbon 14 has been proven to need mathematical calculations to fix errors and so who knows what new errors will be found in that method later. So it would be more scientific to keep an open mind to the possiblity of Carbon 14 being inaccurate. Were there giant animals on the earth before the flood. The Bible says there were giants in the land in those days. The fossil record displays giant insects, giant plants and giant animals. So what is the question? God choose to save certain animals and left the rest behind. At least that is my theory.
138 | WHAT DOES HOLY HILL MEANS? | Ps 2:6 | Scribe | 64735
It is an interesting question and I think the answer lies in doing a comparison of all the passages that speak of the Holy Hill, Holy Mount, Mount of God, Mountain of God. Using a concordance or bible software search on these words. You will find a pattern that goes all the way back to the garden of Eden. It is stated that the Mountain of God was in Eden. This is why Jews in Israel believe that the place where Adam was created was somewhere on the temple mount. These things are speculative but very interesting to consider. I think the most important truth that God is trying to convey to us from Psalms 15:1...LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? Is that of the Heavenly Mount Zion, the Heavenly Temple, the invisible one not the visible one. This is the one that seems too hard for David to comprehend obtaining. This is the one that Paul said he had not yet apprehended, but knew that he would. The question is answered... Psalms 15:2-5 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. |
