121 | resurrection of the dead | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 119155
Do you have specific questions and scriptures from the NT on this issue of "resurrection of the dead?" I acknowledge what we see in the OT but since we have no such kind of miraculous powers ourselves in this dispensation with the NT, it behooves us to stick with guidance as given in the NT. Also if you've read my profile, I do like to give preference to NT issues and concerns. As far as the rest of your post, it just sounds like a personality clash. Don't get too concerned about it. I've also had such clashes in my life and most of us just learn to be patient with that kind of person. AND they (most at least) learn to be patient with me. Remember, "if it doesn't kill you, you're made all the stronger for it." I'm afraid almost all of us have learned to make certain compromises in our lives. What can you do when you run into a brick wall? Seems life is but a series of bumps into such walls and learning to get around them, under or over them somehow. Go with God and pray constantly. God bless. --Rowdy |

Since the Bible doesn't deal directly with this subject, I can only give you the benefit of my experience. This Sep 04, my wife and I will be celebrating 29 years of marriage, our first and only marriage for both of us. We've both had our share of ups and downs, with each other and with our boys. We were kinda young, she at 17 and me at 21 when we got married. And if I had to live my life to live over, I wouldn't change a thing. You see, I was headed for a life of sin and disobedience to God in spite of my upbringing, as I was brought up in a christian home. My wife was the best person in the world for me, as she has the strong personality needed to keep me straight and out of trouble. She doesn't hesitate to remind me of that upbringing and my responsibility to my Lord. We talk, pray and go to worship together at the same congregation. I say that because I can't possibly imagine a person having a good, solid relationship with God, our Father and NOT having an equally good solid relationship in the same faith with his/her spouse. In my opinion, it would be impossible to be truly happy in such a situation. But it's difficult to communicate that to a young person. I see in your profile that you're 17 years old and you seem to be unusally mature to be participating and posting this much on the Forum. So I can only make this recommendation. Do yourself a favor and promise God that you will do everything in your power to marry a christian lady and I emphasize "lady" as she should act, think and behave as a christian lady should. The best way to make certain you marry a christian is to date only christians. BUT if you meet someone special and decide she's for you and then discover she's not a christian, sure you can always convert her. But, quite often it doesn't happen quite that easy. Again, do yourself a favor and promise God, IF you do date a young lady who's not a christian, get her in God's Family BEFORE you marry her. Because after you marry her, it needs to be with the attitude it's for life. Remember, a lifetime of happiness is at stake. AND it could be possible as Solomon found out that an ungodly person just might draw you away from God forever. It's not worth the risk to do otherwise, but that's my recommendation. God bless. --Rowdy |

I apologize for the oversight. It's hard to believe that I missed that; so hard, I went back to your profile to see for myself. Anyway, I appreciate your kindness and your forgiveness. It's wonderful that you knew to take this advice in the spirit with which it was intended for it certainly does apply to all christians, regardless of your sex. I'm glad your fiance is a christian. Believe me, if only more young people (like my son) would believe their parents, things in your life will be so much better, between you two AND your children. Of course, it will help if both of you get some marital counseling AND parental counseling. It helps to make certain that you both talk about all the important things in your lives like what kind of parents do you want to be. Where do you both want to live? Do you both want to travel or stay close to your parents? There's absolutely no substitute for discussing ALL of these important issues to both of you BEFORE you get married. God bless you, dear lady. --Rowdy |

In the same order as questions: 1. Most scholars agree almost unanimously the OT was written in Hebrew. What would be your position on these questions? Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

127 | Deuteronomy 29: 23 | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 119717
In addition to CDBJ's good words and thorough analysis, I thought I'd throw in this tidbit, as a little more enlightenment as to why. Deut 6:5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Good words for us as modern children of God to follow in this day and time. God bless. --Rowdy |

I do hope you'll accept my apology as I genuinely thought your post was facetious and I responded in kind. Please forgive me as we on the Forum are used to dealing with questions with more substance to them. I do hope you'll learn to lighten up, at least just a little bit. I'm afraid the sad truth of the matter is that you're going to find lots of serious and stern folks on this Forum and statements to go with them. God bless. --Rowdy |

131 | Can I trust my spouses? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120022
In THE ultimate confrontation when we meet up with almost unbearable circumstances like that of our beloved example in Job and his wife encouraged him to "Curse God and die," we must hold fast to the last and really only thing that matters most and that is our faith in God. All else pales in significance. HOWEVER, I doubt that you really are anywhere close to that level of suffering as Job and he came through it like a champ. Go to your wife and start a dialouge, open up to her and encourage her to do likewise. Identify the weak areas of your lives together and seek God's assistance through study of His Word AND constant prayer. If both of you pray together and often, you'll be well on your way to great improvement. If the doctor has given up on you, go to another doctor and get a second opinion or maybe even a third but if you're convinced there's nothing more to be said from the medical community, then you really need to put your trust in Him. IF it's God's will, then He can heal you. If not, then count your blessings and each precious moment, especially with those whom you love. We'll pray for you and encourage you as best we can. God bless. --Rowdy |

132 | How dangerous is the Tongue? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120023
In addition to the very good comments from EdB and Angel, I could only add as follows: James 3:8 But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. 11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? But somehow, I suspect you already knew about this verse but just in case...Isn't it a wondeful thing? Now we can use our "tongue" to communicate through the telephone, television, radio, mail and now even the internet. Praise the Lord for giving mankind such an intellect. Let's pray we use these for His glory. God bless. --Rowdy |

I hate to butt in but it appears you're asking a lot from us Forum participants. You join the Forum 3 days ago and give us a one word profile for yourself. Your questions leave a lot to be desired, no scriptures and almost void of detail. And then you criticize the responses you get. I'm sorry but almost any reasonably level headed person would be offended. Your comment above to EdB is cryptic. I hope he is better able to figure it out than I did. AND I hope you're going to stick with the Forum but if I might suggest your studying some of the posts of the "pros," those that have been around for quite a while, like Hank, EdB, flinkwood, CDBJ, Mekarious and Kalos. Studying the posts of these good folks will give you a good idea of good, well thought out statements on the Forum and also a wide variety of styles and interests. To generate a listing of posts for any one in particular, find his/her name in the author column as you see on the bottom of the screen upon posting a question or a note to this post. Upon finding that name, double click on it then the computer presents the statistics for that individual, including his questions, answers and notes and the grand total. I personnaly like to double click on the grand total, thereby bringing up all of his posts, with the most recent at the top. I really am posting this statement, hoping it benefits you. God bless you in your study of His Word. --Rowdy |

I'm not sure exactly what your agenda is. It seems to be a game of some sort as has been suggested by several others. I thought I might offer this one last word of caution as others seem to be trying to be your friend and are responding with far more kindness and forgiveness than myself. Hank has alluded to it but then I thought with your brief time in the Forum, you probably don't know so here's the bottom line: If it's concluded by the "Watchers of the Forum" that you ARE INDEED abusing the Forum for your own purposes and not willing to comply with its parameters, you CAN be kicked off. And NO, I'm certainly NOT one of those honored fellows so empowered. You see, my posts kinda "stretch the envelope" and I'm afraid my popularity and style of posts is NOT one to be imitated. So take care, dear friend. Doing the work of the Lord is a delicate business. I would offer one last scripture and then hush. Matt 10:16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. God bless. --Rowdy |

137 | What nonsense is this? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120146
You make a good point. Sometimes we forget about our great example in the Apostle Paul 1 Cor 9:18 What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. 19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. Sometimes we forget to humble ourselves and see ourselves as just vessels for God so He can shine His light through our lives to the whole world, especially those that read or study their Bibles. But all this being said, let's not forget we must speak where the Bible and we should be silent when the Bible is silent and thus allow some diversity on those issues. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

138 | How to read the Bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120175
For me personally, I recommend that you start with the NT, starting with Matthew and read on through Revelation. It also helps if you have a good reliable version such as the New King James or the New American Standard. I recommend starting with the NT because it's so important to the modern christian and child of God. Also upon reading the NT, you can jot down notes and/or questions for later study and analysis. In this study of the NT, one must include the OT as a solid reference as many disciples and christians throughout the NT refer to OT concepts and/or principles that can only be fully understood from the ancient Hebrew perspective. The most important item of encouragement I would give you is to remember that it's the Words of Jesus and His official representatives, the Apostles by which we'll be judged on Judgment Day. I say this is contrasted with the guidance from the OT, for there are just a few minor differences between the two. The OT has no place of authority in the spiritual life of the modern christian but let me re-emphasize the word AUTHORITY. So that means in those few areas of contrast between the two, we must give preference to adhering to the NT. Once you start reading the OT, read it all the way through to the last minor prophet. Although some portion of the Bible slows down and gets a little rough to "slog" through, it's well worth the reading. I hope this note encourages you in your study of God's Word and God bless. --Rowdy |

139 | The Seventh Day | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120466
Just to give this thread some balance, I have to throw in this little tidbit. I understand from several Jewish friends who are also christians, that they still get together on Saturdays and celebrate their Jewish heritage with no religious connotations. They assemble together on Sundays with their whole congregation for worship in accordance with God's Word. But they also enjoy the common Jewish heritage with their Jewish families and I for one don't have a problem with that. This could be compared to any family or national heritage celebrated on any day of the week across the world. As long as this celebration doesn't include violations to God's Word, like eating blood, or some other strange rituals, there's no problem. The only caution is that Sunday is the only day of worship to the one and only God of this universe. Nothing else can get between a christian and His God on that day. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |
||||||
140 | The Seventh Day | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 120477
You're right of course. I should have said Sunday is the only day that's commanded by the Lord through his Apostles. There are numerous scriptures throughout the NT. One only has to insert "first day week" into the Search field and come up with several. As for other days of worship, of course it's perfectly OK to worship God 7 days a week, 365 days a year but Sunday is the only day commanded. Thank you for the reminder. God bless. --Rowdy |
